Latest Brandan Wright News- He Bulked Up!
Hello my fellow warrior fans, its been a long time I should have never left you. A few weeks back I received a call from my friend studying in North Carolina and asked me to go visit. While I was out there she just so happen to invite me to a basketball game, knowing that I love the sport. To my surprise the basketball game that we were about to watch was the 2009 North Carolina Alumni game. Alot of current NBA players were there such as Vinsanity, Antawn and our/my favorite player Brandan "killed that s***" Wright.
As you all could imagine I was freaking the f*** out, I could not believe it. As for the game he was absolutely "freakinn" kids (love to Stuart Scott). It was blue team (that was his team) up against white team. Brandan did not start but was a major role in the game.
He entered the game in the first quarter with 6:50 left and looked a little bit bigger up top but what really stood out was he reallyyyyy got stronger at the base and legs. He hit three jumpers a little past the foul line, he had 3 or 4 jump hooks and a few dunks. The most impressive thing that I saw was that he was no longer getting bullyed around down lown, he was boxing out big guys like Haywood and some dude named Glover. He even showed some nastiness by grabbing Haywood from the jersey and slamming him to the floor to prevent a dunk. After the game was over the crowd stormed the court but I could not talk to Brandan, I couldn't find him amongst all the people.
I know most people wont beleive me, so I will post a transcript and pictures below: (pics come via NC website)
From the Dean Dome:
BW enters the game and immediately holds the block down against Brendan Haywood
defensively. Haywood gets an open look at a dunk after BW helps out on the driving pg. BW says no, grabs Haywoods shoulders and throws him to the ground. Showing much improvement holding down the block against the bigger and more physical man. Although his upper body is only slightly bigger looking, his lower body looks bigger from my vantage point. Has no trouble boxing Haywood out.
Offensively he has cat like quickness with the ball and can get his shot off whenever he wants to against Haywood. He gets a couple of midrange jumpers to go off the dribble.
Antawn Jamison enters in place of Haywood. Jamison having trouble against the length and quickness of BW. BW gets a catch and finish and converts and impressive lefty running skyhook across the lane. That shot is unblockable, and so is his midrange j from the top of the key. These are 2 shots he can get whenever he wants.
The highlight of BW's game comes midway through the second half where he receives the screen and roll pass at the top of the key, takes one dribble, and throws down a lefty tomahawk over Jerry Stackhouse. It was a career ending dunk.
P.S. I could not post pics, but if you go to http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/view.gal?id=52875 you could check the pics out for yourself. There are about 4 or 5 pics of him.... I cant wait for this season.
Damn it Nelly you better play Brandan!!!!!!!

Thanks for bringing some Wright news
My favorite part of your summary:
It was a career ending dunk.
I hope your observations are correct and hold up for a regular season game. I didn’t have a problem with Wright offensively, just his size and his defensive rebounding instincts. But at least it gets me more excited for the regular season.
Stupid Adobe Flash. I see now why you couldn’t post any of Wright’s pics,
How much bigger did he look?
5 lbs.? 10 lbs.? And how was his rebounding?
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "Your a rookie"
I would say maybe 10-15 pounds
From where I was sitting which was just behind the basket lower level he seemed cut. He had definition to his biceps(does that make sense).
I went to warrior games last year and saw Brandan and all I got to say was that this time I saw him he had muscles/definition……

MAN I WANT TO SEE THAT DUNK SO BAD!!!
I hope they don’t confiscate it :P
"IT'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!"
thanks for the post.
i’m also a big BW fan, and i hope he gets some run this year. thanks again.
I suspect all Wright was doing at the end of the year while his arm recovered was working out. That is actually the proper treatment for a dislocation. Big muscles stabilize the joint. He looks bigger, for sure. The kid was already impressive. Give him another year or two, and he’ll be all over the highlight reels with his leaping ability, quickness and reach. More and more, I hope we do not trade him yet (or perhaps we ought to keep him indefinitely).
I hate those normal-sized midgets. What are they called again? Oh, yeah. People.
highlights of the alumni game. there are like a couple of wright highlights. he looks good, but there were some other highlights where he looked kinda lost (see the brandan haywood dunk).
His D has always was his weakness
Being under Nellie didn’t help :)
some thumbnails from the game…

Yeah, he does look a bit bigger. Who would have thought a 22 year old man would get a bit bigger?? To listen to some of the nattering nabobs on this site, you would have thought that he would never gain an ounce of weight or iota of game. Never mind the fact that even as a skinny 20-21 year-old kid he was pretty consistently productive NBA player, with the occasional flash of excellence.

Weird.

Just did a screen grab and upoaded the file to my flickr site … but weirdly, both times I posted them they appeared for a few minutes, only to be replaced by the blue question marks. The mysteries of the internet…

AR all the way
It’s not even close, this was just an alumni game.
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "Your a rookie"
AR AND BW.
I never understand why people want to make them zero sum. There are enough minutes in the frontcourt to go around, especially if we dump Jackson for a bag of balls.
C Biedrins 30 / Turiaf 16 / Randolph 2
PF Randolph 24 / Wright 24 / Moore 0
SF Maggette 24 / Azubuike 14 / Randolph 10 / George 0
Or something…

Damn Brandan
he looks like he worked out alot this summer. He looks alot stronger than Randolph, but Randolph has some inner strength that he doesn’t get from muscle. Wright doesn’t have that. But when we have Brandan and Anthony on the court at the same time, its very exciting.

Lets not trade him for stoudemire or boozer he has too much potential
I'm in eighth grade give me a break
the atmosphere was crazy
Dare I say louder than Oracle. When they announced MJ the crowd went even crazier. I had to pay $60 bucks because I didnt have a NC school I.D card. It was worth it though

This is very good news
i’ve always believed in Brandan Wright but i knew it would take a couple years to develop his game and body. He looks alot stronger and from the highlights and feedback it sounds as if he is more confident and aggressive. Lets hope this carrys over to the regular because we need a big year from Wright.

B. Wright's dunking
Lost in the whole “whether or not B.Wright is good, bad, great or turtle molester” debate is the more important point that he gets off some of the most sick-looking dunks I’ve ever seen. Some serious jaw-dropping, mind-bending, nasty-sounding throw-downs.
For me, it is the element of surprise punctuated with the ferocity with which he throws it down, juxtaposed by his seemingly passive demeanor. His arms are so long, he can, and sometimes does, dunk the ball from farther away from the rim than my brain is expecting. He’s also an extremely quick leaper. So I’m sitting back expecting another step or a floater or something and then, out of nowhere: DUNK.
This was the first head-scratcher for me : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd4RlhB8rz8
This is what I’m talking about. Nobody thought he was going to dunk it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceIzRGMuHOs

Same issue. That wasn’t a post asking you to “go kill yourself”, which is what it kind of looks like. Time for a sig-line change . . .

Too late, I already did it… :,-(
It’s weird, there’s some new verbage on flickr about not posting “their” images on other sites — as if there’s any other reason to have an account there?
Retesting…

Especially considering they give you the HTML to cut-and-paste . . . maybe they’re being passive-aggressive.
Regardless, I’m sorry for your loss.

Ahh . . .
Do link back to Flickr when you post your Flickr content elsewhere.
The Flickr service makes it possible to post content hosted on Flickr to outside web sites. However, pages on other web sites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr.

That's strange. At home, I saw all of your pics posted above
Here at the office, I do NOT see them.
I have reported this problem as a bug to SBNation
Sleepy, please keep your Brandan Wright image available from flickr for a while. I mentioned it in my bug report.
If you want to see the image bloodsweatndonuts tried to post, File → Save as, and save the page as an .html file on your desktop. Open the .html file and you’ll see that all the images linking to flickr.com are displayed correctly. I have also mentioned this in my bug report.

Don’t forget about this dunk this year vs. the Sixers. (#5)
I love that first dunk.
From where I was sitting, it was kind of hard to tell if the ball went it but we all went crazy anyways haha. Now that I think about it, that was actually a GSOM Night.
This is Kristin Kreuk, now zip it. - GTTM
I also wanted to add...
that his jumper was smooth from about 16-18ft from the top of the key. Also, an interesting thing happened in the third quarter that I really think Don Nelson should consider. George Karl used Brandan alot at the top of the key as a facillitator, to see over the defense and he made some nice passes on back cuts….

That’s awesome. Wright is about as little turn-over prone as possible. If he can pass, too… oh, that’d be pretty. Also, how did his form look on his jumper? I wonder if Karl would now like to trade for him. I wouldn’t be surprised.
I hate those normal-sized midgets. What are they called again? Oh, yeah. People.
George Karl?
Did he coach one of the teams or something?

Karl (UNC c/o ’73) coached one squad and John Kuester (UNC alum and current Det. Pistons coach) coached the other squad.
