Postgame Quotes from warriors.com recap
Don Nelson
On Tonight's Game:
"I thought we hung in there pretty well tonight. We were playing a very good team. If we would have shot a little better shooting percentage we would have really had a good chance of winning this one. We did a lot of good things but just didn’t make the shots. We have to make sure we make the shots around the basket. We just didn’t shoot a good percentage against a good team but you have to give their defense credit. They matched up small with us which I thought was a good thing for us, which enabled us to hang in there."
On The Final Play:
"I thought the open court was the best way. The couple seconds we lost when Monta (Ellis) was looking at me might have a cost us a better look at a three but you always get a better look in the open court."
Monta Ellis
On Tonight's Game & The Last Play:
"We still came down and had a chance to win. I didn’t really want to take that off-balance shot, but hey, we left it out there. We fought back, gave ourselves a chance to win. We made mistakes but we stuck with it. We were down (11) with less than three minutes and we still managed to come back and only lose by three. We had a chance to win it or tie it and maybe go to overtime. Tonight was a bad night for me, but hey, we’ll just put this one behind us and move on."
Stephen Curry
On Taking The Last Shot:
"It didn’t look good from my hand, a little contact but not enough for a foul, but just enough to throw me off. Crazy thing is I don’t really practice (that shot) but I goof around at the practice facility and I throw a little shot-put shot almost, so I‘ve done it before… but not with three guys in my face."
On Tonight's Game:
We did all we could, down ten with three minutes left and we clawed our way back to within three with thirty seconds left, got the rebound and had a shot to tie and put it in the overtime, and we would have had the momentum so we might have won it. But I thought we played well all the way down to the end against a great team in the East."

Agh if I had a redo on that shot! Tough one tonight but we'll be back wed. Anyone see Shaq step on my hand? I'll send a pic of the damage
Considering the fact that he's like 400 lbs and did a lil shuffle while I was stuck...it's not that bad lol
Thanks Shaq! http://twitpic.com/xrp2d
- Note that Shaq inadvertently backed into Curry's hand while Curry was lying on the floor. The above link shows his hand.
CartierMartin
Took a tough loss at home...DAMN!!! Gotta put that one behind us tho...got Miami on Wed.
- I like Cartier Martin's attitude so far.
My Notebook
- Devean George's knee has been a bit unstable, though he says it's coming along. That could be why George hasn't played much filler minutes.
- Haha! Cartier Martin STILL doesn't exist in the Yahoo box score!
- It seems that Mickael Pietrus dropped into the Oracle unexpectedly. Why is he here? I looked at the Magic schedule, and the Magic are playing in Sacramento tomorrow, so they were in the "neighborhood".
What's next?
- The homestand continues as the Miami Heat roll into town on Wednesday.

posted on other thread but putting it here as well -
I was at the game and these are a few thoughts:
LeBron is a beast – just unstoppable – obviously he gets away with stuff but so do all the stars – so did Jordan – get over it and appreciate this brilliant force of nature.
Monta was clearly sick and struggling in the 2nd and 3rd but he gutted it out and made some great plays late in the game. He is all heart – not quite all brains yet – but that will come
Curry was smooth and a joy to watch – he will be an all star someday – he plays the game the right way and will only get better
Cartier played admirable defense on LeBron but was on the floor too much
Radman had his best game as a warrior
Maggette played tough too – didn’t back down from LeBron and got good numbers on efficient shooting
Beans may have come back too soon – He is becoming a liability.
Biggest reason we loss – Cavs much better than us
Biggest way we hurt our chances – missed way too many easy buckets
Ellison was surrounded by security when he came in, sat and watched the whole game courtside, seemed to have a great time and was even standing and cheering along with dub fans towards the end. I heard a few chants but not much.
Pietrus- this was hilarious! He came in during the first quarter and just wandered around the arena, went up and down aisles, shaking peoples hands and chatting folks up. He finally got a seat in section 125, right next to mine, on the aisle. An usher wanted to move him to lower seat but he waived him off, he wanted to stay with the fans. He didn’t watch the game much because he swapped with people seeking autographs and pictures and he was kind enough to oblige them all. Some folks chanted for him to return to the dubs. It was pretty crazy because this whole side of the arena was watching his every move and not the game.
What a night!
That
MP story almost makes me miss him so much that I would look past the stepping out of bounds every 2 plays, and bad ft’s! He is just an awesome man doing all that. Shows he still cares about us, and didn’t just want the money.
So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

Yea seeing Pietrus just walking up and down the aisles was crazy.
Everyone wanted to him to sit next to them haha
Eh. Maggette was fantastic. Biedrins was horrible. Cartier looked okay.
Something tells me these Warriors will be called “inexperienced” for as long as Nellie coaches them, because they’re never gonna get good at late-game execution if he 1) never teaches them how to do it, and 2) screws it up himself. I mean, seriously, what is the expiration date on this excuse?

I liked Vlad Rad tonight, so I voted for him
even if some other players technically had better nights.
WW goes to Curry for me.
Both he and Maggette played exceptionally well, but overall I think Curry had a better all-around game. Monta had a great first half, but his production dipped quite a bit afterward.
Cartier played decently, but his minutes came at the expense of Morrow. Morrow only played 12 minutes and only attempted one shot, a made three pointer. I wonder what will happen in the next few games.
Some VERY interesting things and exciting things...
Despite the loss…
1: Steph Curry…. this kid has it… pure and simple… in the next two years, I believe he is going to become the next CP3 or at worst, Deron Williams… I truly hope we can keep him.
2: Hunter – I know many dont feel his ‘stats’ to date show anything exciting…but having played with bigs, I have never seen a big that has the calmness, control and timing that this guy has, apart from a very select group. WITH the right coaching to increase his rebounding ability, I truly believe he can become a really effective centre. If not starting then a superb back-up centre. ANYONE that can block a 310lb monster of a man like Shaq, just 2 feet from the rim….is the type of centre you like to have in your squad. He did it to Oden, he has now done it to Shaq…he is not scared of going aginst the truly Big men…something Biedrins has never shown and will never do, due to his build. Hunter has that physique that can be in the right place at the right time…if you dont recognise that this takes a certain talent, then you dont know what your talking about when it comes to centre play, in my personal opinion.
3: Monta and Maggette – These two have formed a fantastic partnership that works, I truly do not want to see that broken up now and as such, I would like us to now KEEP Maggette and hope that we can return him to the 6th man role, before he gets burnt out or injured.
4: Morrow – Can we turn him into a true 3? I believe Morrow could easily concentrate on Wade as a role model in terms of style of play, only Morrow is actually better as a pure shooter. I.e. I would also like to see him become more of a ‘swingman’ for this team, I believe that is a niche he needs to carve himself.
5: Biedrins – Yes he is coming back from injury, but you would expect to see improvement with each game….am I the only one simply not seeing it? That sets off a few alarm bells… I continue to watch and wait … but if there is not gradual improvement over the next month…. over the summer I think it is ‘bye bye Biedrins’….
6: LeBron…….. I have to say it… MVP…. the guy is just incredibly gifted to watch play basketball.. Even if your not a Cavs fans… to watch this guy play Ball is to watch someone with not only an incredible natural ability, but a bloody hard worker, a team player and a work ethic to improve every aspect of his game, in short…a joy to watch. That block on Ellis from what seemed like 6 feet behind him….was simply incredible..the guys HEAD was almost rim height!!! Fair play to the King….
"Better a Has-been than a Never-was. But better a Never-was than a Never-tried-to-be"
idk about wade and morrow
wade can go the the rim with authority and handle the ball pretty well, and morrow not so much(other than that one ferocious dunk)
6. Lebron....
You know, when I first saw that Lebron block on the Ellis breakaway on Sportscenter they kept showing last night, I thought it looked like a goaltend. The ball was clearly over the cylinder and his hand swept horizontally over the rim to get that block. I guess Monta thought so too cuz he mentioned it in the post game. I’m not denying that Lebron has skills, but that was a clear sign that the stars get the calls. The entire Sportscenter segment on the game was a Cavs highlight reel. They might as well send that to Cleveland’s promo department.
It was a goal tend - but not enuf to merit a call
Only way LeBron blocks shot is a goaltend, but it happened super fast. I think because LeBron has a rep for this defensive move it helped him. He did block the shot and he made an amazing play and that will always trump a questionable call – especially when you are lebron.
At game they put Monta’s mug on the big screen and he had this embarrased look on his face – I felt pretty bad for him. BUT, he came right back, took it the hole and got a foul call. That helped him save face.
I think the save from the goaltend...
Was the fact that he smacked it off the edge of the backboard I believe, which would hav been hard to do if it was full coming down…as you guys say..it was a real tight call… but as a basketball moment…the sheer athleticism was pretty incredible, so I think we can let him have that one… :)

no offense taken....as...
I didnt compare Wade and Morrow…. which your post suggests I did…
I actually said I think he should concentrate on Wade’s game style as a way for him (Morrow) to improve into becoming more of a true 3/swingman, simply by watching Wade’s style of game.

curry's most complete game. maggette a beast. ellis a black hole.
it seems like we were listless in the second and third quarter during the time he wasn’t in…i think the cj over curry arguments can officially end now.
If Monta goes down, the whole team is going with him
So it is their duty to take some pressure off him, find open spots so maybe he can get the ball to them…
Monta cant do everything

Our starters were looking okay this game, but our bench was horrible. I didn’t expect too much from Martin, but I am looking more at Beans and CJ. CJ has been nothing this past month, and Beans lost his hustle on the boards.
So let me get this straight... Maggette is the healthy guy.
by Badly Browned on Jan 12, 2010 8:16 AM PST up reply actions
Beans...
seems to have also lost his hands. In effect he doesn’t seem to have what actually made his usable on the floor anymore. Let’s hope he turns it around.

This isn't a playoff team
No one asked Monta to do everything. His teammates are willing to take some of the scoring off his hands, he just needs to find them and get the involved
by GoldenSt8OfMind on Jan 12, 2010 10:07 AM PST up reply actions
Everyone says where would we be without Monta. Maybe we would play more team oriented and have a more balanced output from everyone. Who knows. Either way by the end of the year we need some answers about this team.
by GoldenSt8OfMind on Jan 12, 2010 10:07 AM PST up reply actions
How many times did we see Monta Ellis take the ball down and shoot without even passing once? He was struggling with his shot and he should have tried to get his teammate involved since he clearly was off.
Maggette played a hell of a game. He went to the basket, he knew the foul calls would be there all night.
Stephen Curry WOW, he still makes some stupid mistakes but his basketball IQ has to be the highest on the team already
Vlad had his best game
just to clarify.
monta is an amazing talent, but what keeps him from making the whole team better, like steph, or lebron for that matter, is his lack of court vision, ie tunnel vision. With his penetration, he could create better shots for his teammates by finding open men, like he did with morrow against Sac for the game sealer. That kind of unselfishness would open the floor, spread the defense and make this team a lot better, more cohesive and it would also make a small line-up possibly an asset because we actually have the shooters to make it work. 3 total 3pters for AmMo and steph is sub-par. I would like to see them take a total of 10-15 a game. hell, they make over 40% of them.
I agree but...
Monta is still learning, and he looks to pass more than in his first couple years. He has improved on defense and I think that once is bball IQ catches up with his skills, he’ll be the all-star we want him to be. This is his first year as the sole leader of the team – and he has very little help (especially in the bigs) but he’s going to get better.
I’m sort of hoping Flip Saunders quits in Wizard land and comes here in the offseason. He’d be a much better coach for Monta than Nellie is. Monta needs a coach he respects and who respects him back – that will help him get to the next level.
For the Curry haters (and Jennings wing-nuts)…
As we approach the halfway mark, here’s how the eight PGs drafted in the Top 20 stack up.
True Shooting %
Lawson .605
Curry .560
Evans .535
Flynn .516
Jennings .487
Maynor .473
Holiday .451
Teague .427
Assists/36
Maynor 7.7
Teague 6.6
Lawson 6.1
Jennings 6.0
Holiday 5.3
Curry 5.0
Flynn 4.9
Evans 4.8
Steals/36
Teague 2.1
Curry 2.0
Holiday 1.7
Maynor 1.5
Evans 1.4
Flynn 1.4
Lawson 1.4
Jennings 1.1
Turnovers/36
Lawson 2.3
Maynor 2.4
Teague 2.4
Curry 2.8
Holiday 2.8
Jennings 2.8
Evans 2.9
Flynn 3.5
Rebounds/36
Evans 5.0
Curry 4.1
Holiday 4.0
Jennings 3.9
Teague 3.8
Maynor 3.8
Lawson 3.5
Flynn 2.9
After Evans, and possibly Lawson, I’ll take our guy. Jennings’ godawful shooting has dropped him to the middle of the pack, imo — “better than CP3!” my arse. And Jonny Flynn (picked #6) may be the worst of the bunch…
There will be no extra point!
Nice...it's funny
how quickly people are to write off rookies. 1 month and everyone was on the Jennings wagon.
I'll eat some crow
I was really down on Curry as a whole since they drafted him. However, watching him play this year he’s really turned me. I still think the Nash comps are crazy, but he definitely seems like someone who can be a very productive PG and possibly an all-star. He hasn’t forced as many shots as I thought he would (in fact, I’d even say he needs to be more aggressive) and has really proven to be a great passer and someone who makes smart decisions.
While his defense is really terrible due to his lack of size/athleticism, he is able to make up for it by being very crafty and is excellent at making steals. I can definitely see him as a guy who draws a lot of charges in the future.
He’s still got plenty of holes, like any rookie, but I definitely like what I’ve seen so far and I even think he and Monta can function in the backcourt together (although this has more to do with how motna has grown on the defensive end)

It is once again clear that draft hype can make people stop paying attention to the game. Lawson played much better than Flynn in college and is showing that he’s much better than him in the pros so far in exactly the ways he was better in college.
Someone remind me why people were so high on Flynn and dismissed Lawson again?

Ellis is amazing
but he needs to get his teammates involved. He still jumps in the air and doesn’t think until he’s already in the air. It causes bad passes, shots, and turnovers.
by GoldenSt8OfMind on Jan 12, 2010 10:09 AM PST reply actions
he definitely needs to work on the mental aspects, but he’s still young and only has 3 full seasons under his belt. Also, he NEEDS to get more rest. This workload is not only unnecessary, but it hurts him and the team. He’d be much more effective with more rest.
I’d rest him for the final 2 minutes of the odd quarters and the first two minutes of the even quarters. He’ll just be far more explosive if they can accomplsih this.
An energetic CJ isn’t that big a downgrade from an extremely tired Monta
by NeifiChicken on Jan 12, 2010 11:20 AM PST up reply actions
Hard to know
How much better he’d be with a solid PF or C under the basket for him to hand it off to. He’d have more assists if his bigs could finish and hold on to the ball better. Our backcourt is looking nice, we need to shore up the front line before trade deadline.
