Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

"Allen said fans should have 50 percent of the vote, with the other 50 percent being divided evenly between the media and the players. He said players know who is playing the best, and believes with his idea, "you’d look at five guys starting the All-Star team regardless of hype or highlight.""
(yahoo sports)

On a side note, this article notes that Allen Iverson is among the leading vote-getters despite having a dismal season by any player's standards. Are "the Chinese" to be blamed for this, too? In case anyone is THAT hysterical or paranoid about "the Chinese" and the purported global nepotism or affection for each other, Yi Jianlian is not a top 10 vote getter thus far (Luol Deng is ahead of him). Neither is Yaoming.

well...

Yao Ming isn’t a big vote getter because he’s done for the whole year, and Yi Jianlian was out for a while too (and he doesn’t nearly have as much attention as Yao). People point fingers towards the “chinese” though because Tracy McGrady is 2nd leading West guards in spite of only playing 6 games or so. People will go for teammates of their favorite player, thus rockets players are getting some bumps in the votes. McGrady is the biggest name there, so it makes sense that he’d get votes in. Aaron Brooks actually is fairly high in the standings too (though I doubt he’d even get a coach vote in… or at least I hope he doesn’t)

basically, I understand why people blame “the chinese” but I wouldn’t solely blame them.

Like with Iverson, he’s just a popular name. Very casual NBA fans just vote for whichever name they know best. Sad really.

Who cares?

That NBA spokesman in the article is exactly right: the All-Star game is for the fans so it should be voted on by the fans. Being an All-Star is about popularity and doesn’t mean much in terms of basketball merit. That’s what the All-NBA teams are for.

Personally, I'm in favor of anything that takes votes out of the average person's hands.

I don’t watch the all-star game, but I would if it was a game between the best players in basketball.

50/50 is good

You still get fan involvement and you may just give actual “good” players a chance to shine and get in the spotlight. A good marketing agent should not be the reason why someone got in an all star game.

oh yeah, it IS all the Chinese fault. We should make a song about it like “Blame Canada”

How is Ray Allen having a dismal season?

He’s averaging 16, 3 and 3 on 46% shooting for a team that has won 71% of their games.

Monta Ellis is not an allstar BTW

If we had one it should be C-Mag

One of the few to have appreciated Cap'n Jax. Do well in NC, get that 8th seed!

Problem is

Teams have a decent strategy against Monta that works since no one around him can spread the floor. Simply, any time he drives teams will double/triple team him and clog the lane.

He is not the type of player that can by himself take over because of his size and his lack of being able to kick out when he gets crowded in the lane…he can only dish to near by cutters, which once Andris is at 100% should help a lot.

but curry and morrow are great 3 point shooters

they would be great to dish to, monta just doesnt have the passing vision.

you have to place some blame on morrow and curry...

monta has shown that he’s willing to pass to the open player. morrow and curry need to do a better job of getting open…we’ve all seen that they (especially morrow) are not good at getting rid of their defenders for the open shot, off the ball…

Their presence on the floor

means that their defenders can’t collapse on Monta. If the defender does, it leaves Morrow or Curry open.

Here's how I look at it

Monta is not the best passer. He does his best, but is best at passing to cutters, not to people on the outside.

Why? Because teams are double/triple teaming inside the lane and it is very hard for him to pass out of that kind of pressure especially since he is not great at that kind of pass.

I place the blame on Monta and everyone else. Monta will be more efficient once Andris is at 100%, simple as that. Buki is also a player that helps in that category, as he is a very good cutter.
