It's just a cool ad
Deep one too

Deep
LOL. It’s “deep” to watch the propaganda wing of a multi-billion dollar corporation doing their best to salvage the severely tarnished reputation of one of their most prized possessions?
I mean, I was kind of interested to see what Nike’s army of marketing hacks would come with. I’m glad you posted it here. But c’mon, man: are you really swallowing this nonsense? Just to recap before the propaganda campaign brainwashes us all: LeBron acted like a major league d-bag this offseason. He showed no empathy for his home state or his legions of adoring local fans. Rather than simply sign with the team of his choice (a la Durant) he contrived an elaborate public TV event in which he came off as a cold, callous, preening jerk.
Beyond that, for the best basketball player in the world, he’s come up shockingly small in the last two post-seasons. In the Cavs’ playoff loss to Orlando two years ago, he stormed off the court without congratulating Dwight Howard or his other worthy opponents — something almost unheard of in professional sports.
I’m still in awe of his game, but there are plenty of good reasons to dislike him. Or like him if you want — but don’t do so just because a giant corporation made a cool ad to entice you to buy their shoes.
There will be no extra point!

they’ve always spent big bucks and great talent on his commercials. The Lebron “family” a few years ago was very funny.

I agree. I mean I’m not such a purist to think that great art can’t be done in the service of commerce. All art is commercial, to some degree or another. And clearly, on a surface level, there was a ton of artistry in this spot. At the same time … when the scriptwriters start in on the “role model” and “villain” stuff, to me the spot leaves the realm of art or even entertainment and enters the realm of trying to force-feed people a very calculated line of propaganda.
I know it’s unrealistic, but I kinda wish the Nike PR team would just let LeBron’s sublime game speak for itself, and allow us to form our own opinions about his character.

um lebron came up big in his playoff games his team did nothing to help him. He had 27 points nineteen boards and ten assist.
the year before that against the magic he almost averaged a triple double. They still lost. It’s not him coming up small it is the scrub teammates the cavs give him. The walking off court thing was a sore spot but other then that he is a class act never talks trash and is a cocky d bag. It is heard of though bill belicheck walked off in the sb a few years ago before the game was fully over and never shook hands.
How did he come off as cocky in that interview he was calm and just doing what he chose to do he worked hard for what he has earned let him do it. He gained 3 million dollars for boy’s and girl’s clubs in america. Is he a d bag for doing that?
The guy is a smart business man. That was a smart move they did the lebron special last week on him and spoke of what he did and how it made him even bigger. The guy get’s slammed by every media outlet that did not get him and every fan that is envious of him. He went to a team to win rings not for money not for fame. He want’s to win. That is a rare thing to find today. He was screwed no matter what he did.
love this guy everybody hates him for just wanting to win
he made three million dollars for those kid’s. you can hate how he did it but are do you think the kid’s that get the new boy’s and girl’s clubs care. Or how about those kid’s that went to be there. They can say they were there.
He is hated more then kobe just one notable player. Kobe a man who committed adultery and publicly bought his wife back and was in a rape case and settled so there would be no trial. He is behind tiger wood’s to. People let the media control their thoughts to much.
People let the media control their thoughts to much.
Especially when it’s not substantiated by facts, or logic. Thus where someone is hated more for doing a TV special, then being accused of rape/sexual assault (Big Ben, Kobe), or sexting and harassing a co worker (Favre)… it’s the truth however.

yup sadly and i find it funny when a laker fan speaks about karma hitting the heat
as if they are bad guy’s. There is no such thing as basketball karma or kobe would not of been rewarded pau. The best thing is that with a laker fan no matter what you are talking about it would always somehow come around to kobe being better then lebron. Now the heat come into conversation.

Vujacic? Varajaeo? Fisher? Kirilenko?
Vujacic? Varajaeo? Fisher?
That’s like 3 of my top 5. None of them are heinous enough to be my most hated, you know? None are good enough to dedicate my energy to. Hey, who knows, maybe Harrison Barnes will end up being a big ’ole a-hole.

I saw a sports special on him via Youtube before. His mom talks about how after basketball practice/gym he would go home, grab something to eat, then straight for studying for a couple of hours to maintain his grades. Seems like a hard worker, sounds very humble too.
Oh okay
Well that’s cool. I hope we get him haha

I liked him till I saw the video of him dis-respecting that towel boy and then he reinforced the impression by refusing to shake hands after losing the playoff series.

um he did the towel boy thing last year and the handshake the year before.
Really your gonna not like him because he did not acknowledge a opposite team worker especially when it was clear he was staring at the game and focused on the game. oh well more power to you.

I'm disappointed more than angry
I love Lebron’s game. He’s the best player. I just wish he wanted to win with the Cavs. To me, he pretty much decided “I just can’t do it”, and that’s too bad, because he really can.
And the tax situation in Florida is pretty cushy, from what I understand.
by Uwe Blog on Oct 26, 2010 1:53 AM PDT via mobile reply actions
why should he play for an organization who for seven years gave him mo williams as his sidekick.
The owner’s true colors showed when he left. Lebron owes nothing to that city or the fan’s he made them relavent that is why they are so mad. Next season they will be bottom feeders and the financial situation has already been talked about. It is just sports some people take it to far. Get over it he is gone nothing they can do except hope they get the next lebron.
Why would my disappointment bother you? Cleveland’s roster from last year would be a great matchup against this year’s Heat sans Lebron. Mo, Lebron, Jamison vs. Wade, Bosh, and Beasley (traded to make cap space for the three stars) would be a game. A contest. Now it’s only watchable because there might be a fight or riot.
I want there to be more than 3 good teams. I don’t think that I’m alone in that.
by Uwe Blog on Oct 26, 2010 2:47 AM PDT via mobile up reply actions
And Mo only played there 2 seasons, not 7.
by Uwe Blog on Oct 26, 2010 2:49 AM PDT via mobile up reply actions
um i know mo played two season i should of spaced it out.
i was saying for seven years of his service the best they could give him was mo williams as an offseason signing. Also yeah your right it would be a good matchup because lebron is on the team. What ever team lebron is on would stand a chance on anyone but in a series it just does not work against great teams because one player despite having amazing numbers can’t cover and shoot everything as much as another player tries to example kobe.
There are more then three good teams also. Thunder, lakers, heat, magic, celtics, dallas(window closing), nuggets(window just about closed), chicago is on it’s way, etc.
Bleacher report wrong again
The bleacher report breakdown of this commercial tries to explain the targets of Lebron’s comments. Two of his comments may have been misconstrued by Elliot Pohnl, the creator of the slideshow.
1. “Should I remind you I’ve done this before?” – Lebron James
“LeBron takes aim at the critics who forgot he has made big decisions before, most notably choosing to go straight to the NBA out of high school.” – Bleacher Report
2. “Or should I give you a history lesson?” – Lebron James
“The targets of this question could go in a number of different directions.
LeBron could be looking to remind us about the history of African-Americans in the United States, perpetuating the belief that racism is still alive and well. Although he seemed to backpedal from his comments during a CNN interview last month, it is reasonable to assume his statement wasn’t merely answering a question.
LeBron might also be taking a shot at Cleveland with his question, reminding Northeast Ohio how much life he brought to the area for over a decade between high school and the NBA.
Either way, there’s some anger behind the question." – Bleacher Report
My Take:
To those who have followed Lebron or seen his documentary “More than a Game,” these comments may be more suggestive of his decision to attend St. Vincent – St. Mary with his friend, Dru Joyce, rather than attend his local high school (I believe it was Archbishop Hoban). Being that St. Vincent – St. Mary’s was predominantly caucasian, Lebron James was ostracized by his community for abandoning his racial kin and “pimping” his talents for a white school.
This is analogous to James’ current experience, he is now abandoning his home state and team to play with his friends.
Still, Pohnl’s explanations may be valid; in fact, he touched on the racism aspect. However, I feel that his past experience of betraying his community for a friend more accurately portrays the motivations behinds James’ statements.
