Keith Smart
On the Third Quarter:
"Coming out into the third quarter has been good…from the preseason until now. The guys have come out, once again very focused on both sides of the ball, and focused on defense first. The defense got their transition game going and now we have guys making passes rather than taking quick shots. Overall we tried to get into the paint, force the defense to converge and then make the open shot."

On Monta Ellis Getting 11 Assists:
"That’s maturity because he put up 46 points the other night and didn’t try and get 36 points. He saw how the defense was playing, read it and saw that other guys were playing well and just made plays and just simply became the facilitator. That’s the maturity of where he is at right now."

On Keeping The Clippers Under 100 Points:
"We keep wanting to preach that side of the ball. The first night was a night where we were just had to get the win. But we’re not so much looking at holding a team under 100 points, some nights you just can’t do it. But can we make them shoot a different percentage."
Monta Ellis
On Tonight's Game:
"At the beginning of the night I noticed it wasn't my night, so I tried to do other things to get my team involved. We just went off the flow. It had nothing to do with the way they were guarding me. I know when my day is going to be good and when it's going to be bad. I knew from the beginning of the game so I had to do other things."

On The Third Quarter:
"That's our quarter. We just have to take that first half and connect it to the third quarter and we will be okay."
David Lee
On Defense:
"Andris did and unbelievable job on Kaman. He was an all-star last year and a guy that when they're playing their best ball, he is leading their team. We outrebounded them again tonight. It sets us up to play well and to get a victory, and we did that."
Dorell Wright
On Playing On The Block:
"I am working everyday to polish those things up. I'm just looking forward to getting those plays. It's a long season and hopefully in the next few games I will get some post-ups so I can get comfortable down there."

Interesting Tweets

(after the game)
gswscribe: Curry's right ankle was taped so heavily, it looked like a cast. It sounded like he's going to miss Sunday at Lakers
DWRIGHTWAY1: Shouts to the whole #Bay and the fans. U guys were great again!! Let's keep it goin!! Shouts for all the Love 2. 80 more to go folks!!

Notes

- From the AP recap: "The game was the 5,000th in Warriors’ franchise history. The team is 2,295-2,2705 in that span."
- Once again, Curry is "day to day" with his ankle.
- When the Rockets signed Erick Dampier, the Warriors were looking for the Rockets to release Ishmael Smith so they could snatch him up as a backup point guard. Unfortunately, the Rockets are expected to release Jermaine Taylor instead.

What's next?

- The Warriors get a day off, then head down to LakerLand for our first road test on Sunday. This will be an easy week with no back to backs. The rough stuff starts next weekend with a 5 game road trip.
- Meanwhile, get ready to spell and complete that word again (UPS**) as the Giants face the Rangers in Texas Sat (3:50pm), Sun (5:15pm), and if necessary, Mon (4:50pm).

I'm nervous

about what the extent of this injury will be. I know he is young and ought to heal quickly, but that did not look good.

It's scary

The only thing keeping me going is that apparently the rolled ankle at the FIBA practice looked super nasty but Steph recovered in a couple days. I’m just hoping he has super resilient joints.

AP wisdom
Ellis, who matched his career high of 46 points against the Rockets, had an off night shooting, but made three 3-pointers and came within two assists of tying his personal best.

lol, Ellis shot 62% TS.

The sentence seems to imply that made 3-pointers don’t count as shooting. Yeah… that makes so much sense. Granted, being 3/4 from 3 point range made up for bad shots from closer range, but it’s still a good shooting night overall.

The Golden Glow is the only way to reach the upper level.

One thing I have learned 2 games in.

We are a lot better then last year.

B-Wright has looked good in the few minutes he has played, I know there bringing him along slowly.. but he should get a few more minutes to prove he isn’t a bust.

by GSdubsfan41 on Oct 30, 2010 12:01 AM PDT reply actions

I'm so happy to see Andris getting off his offensive schnide

He really is a defensive game changer when he’s not an offensive basket case. Now, if only he can stop fouling every 30 seconds….

I think Lee is going to be a big help to Biedrin’s game.

among others.

What fascinated me the most about the summer acquisitions is that they fit into a kind of template of a team. It’s really built not only around “type” of player, but of an understanding (I think) of how these particular players fit that template. Lee and Dre are a great fit. Dre’s shown us his little hook and running hook from both sides of the basket now – he’s very accurate with it, and has a very pretty shot. He’s a good passer, and is picking up more steals than turnovers. He’s not a high-rate player like Lee, Monta, and Steph are, though, so he needs to have some good high-rate players around him to make better. Out of my hat, I’d say at least two – like Baron and Monta.

My personal feeling is that Baron didn’t really make Monta and Dre better – a healthy Dre made both of them better. Monta is very much a context player – he, like Baron, seems to needs a good team around him to be really effective. Dorell may also fall into that category. Steph, Lee, and (possibly) RW are going to produce wherever they are. Dre makes them all better.

Not only is the pressure off Dre to do it all – it’s also off Monta, Lee, and Steph.

trivia notes

after two games, Monta and Steph have taken 2 more shots than the opposing guard starters. They are averaging 51 points on .660 shooting. The opposition starters are averaging 38 on .330 shooting. (FG%). Lets hear it for team defense!

Neither Kaman nor Blake were effective while both Lee and Biedrins were in the game.

Gadz – 2-5 for 4 points, 3 rebs, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 0 turnovers, and 3 fouls in 12 minutes. Dan, where have you been hiding for the last few years? It was great to see you turn your motor on tonight. Do that or close to it every night, and we get really scary, given who we’ve got inactive.

We create more serious matchup problems for other teams than most of the NBA can create for us. All we have to do is exploit what’s there – something will always be there.

TWO (2) votes for Vlad?

I guess he’s had a couple nice offensive rebounds so far, but…c’mon, we all know the guy has been dead weight since nearly the first day we got him. He shoots a god-awful percentage. He’s embarrassing to watch as he seems to tune out half the time he’s on the floor—reminds me of my playing style when I’m screwing around/disinterested.

by ScrawnyBaller84 on Oct 30, 2010 2:15 AM PDT reply actions

he plays good D tho

puts in good effort, occasionally surprises with his drives. it’s just his shot is so damn inconsistent, other than that he’s been good for us. There’s a reason Jackson started him over in LA

Goal: 8 seed!

I am 100% Chinese American and want Jeremy Lin to suceed, BUT

as a WARRIORS fan, I find it despicable that the place cheers for him louder than the team itself.

But other than that, great, great game. if these two past games are a sign of things to come, my goodness, all I can say is…LGW!!!

SB Nation Bay Area.

SB Nation Bay Area is our local page. I link back to GSoM every morning and in every game stream we link back here for specific Warriors news. Same network and the like. We have a preview/recap/news for each game. First a preview is posted, then, we link to the in-game thread on GSoM and occasionally provide live updates, then we write a recap.

We’re getting off to a kind of slow start though, figuring out who’s doing what. Here’s the Warriors stream for last night, but they will be much more comprehensive in the future, just look at our Giants stream.

Ankle

As tempting as it is to bring Steph back, I hope they let him heal. The Warriors seem way deeper on the bench this year. The rebounding is head and shoulders above last year. Check the Kincks, the only exWarrior playing any minutes is Rony. Looks like we made the right move.
