Keith Smart
On Tonight's Game:
"You always look at some positives. Some of our bench guys came in and played, our starters just did not perform the way you need to play against a team that’s on their home court. But you got some positives out of some guys—we got a chance to get some good information on Jeremy Lin, he came in and did a good job, gave us a good tempo, and we had some other guys play well. So you look at some of the positive things that you had in this game. You have to be firing on all cylinders to have a chance to beat this team."

On The Lakers' Starting Lineup:
"They’re difficult because when those guys are playing at a high level they take you out of where you want to get the ball from. You have a point guard who basically makes you work to get the ball into the scoring area. You have Kobe who will make an awful lot of work to get the ball into his area, you have Artest who’s going to do the same thing, and then you have the rhythm of Odom. So they have a group on the perimeter that can take you out of the comfort zone that you want your offense to be in."

On David Lee’s Performance:
"I just think it was one of those nights. He’s been great all year long, preseason all through. With 82 games scheduled you’re going to have some nights like that. So I took him out, he didn’t have the pop that he normally would have, and I think he understood that. I look forward to him getting back and next game having a good, productive game like he’s been having."
Monta Ellis
On Tonight's Game:
"We started the game off a little sluggish, they got a big run in the beginning of the game we never could get back in the game."

On Playing Without Stephen Curry:
"His presence was missed, but like I said we were getting open shots, they just wouldn’t fall. It was just one of those nights, where they out-rebounded us, out-hustled us. The turnovers in the beginning of the game got us in a deep hole, and like I said, we never could climb out."
David Lee
On Tonight's Game:
"Unfortunately there are days like this, and it happens to every player. I work hard, stay consistent…games where you just can’t find a rhythm, but unfortunately it happens, but overall today they beat us up on the board’s at all five positions. They got to the free throw line a lot more than we did and that was a difference in the game, and that’s where we lost it. But we got to get better in playing on the road, especially against big time teams like this. Most importantly we need to bounce back and play well on Wednesday."

On Throwing Out This Game And Getting Ready For Memphis:
"Well, no you don’t throw it out, there’s something to be learned from every game. For me I got to find a way to just get in the rhythm early and from the jump tonight they’re beating us on the boards and offensively they did a good job making sure we didn’t get any easy buckets to get in any kind of rhythm. Even Monta [Ellis] and Dorell [Wright] who played well for us offensively, every shot they shot was a tough contested shot; they were just able to hit some. We didn’t get any easy buckets, on the other hand, they got a bunch of easy ones in the paint and that’s why they’re defending world champions and that’s why we need to get a lot better."
Jeremy Lin
On His Performance:
"I’m not going to really talk about what I did personally when we lost by twenty-four. That’s just a tough game to play defending champs in their hometown and without Stephen Curry. But we’re going to learn a lot at different games and we’re just going to get ready for our next game."

On Adjusting To The NBA Game:
"I’m just learning slowly the NBA game and how different coverage’s and different plays in defense. There’s not one specific thing that I might have learned in between one game and the next but just this experience to be able to get out on the floor and stay comfortable; that was really helpful."

Notes

- Some of the Warriors wore orange shoes, which was a Halloween thing. According to Fitz on the broadcast, the league allows for orange shoe fun on Halloween.
- The Warriors will likely not offer a contract extension to Brandan Wright, making him a restricted free agent next summer.

I'm taing a vow of silence for 10 days

regarding Keith Smart’s rotations and player choices.

So – how bout them Giants?

I'm sure the Rangers fans are pissed at the luck the Giants are having in this series

Like in Game 2, where they hit a long drive to the wall, and it bounces BACK into play for just a double instead of a home run, and they didn’t score. Then today, our long ball bounced up against the wall, but stayed in the field, so we could score from 1st base. That ball was a couple inches from bouncing OUT for an automatic double.

Somehow, this is the season for the Giants to win it all. Everything’s aligned for it.

yep, agreed

and doing it behind a kid and good performances from a couple of rookies… just saying.

it’s that heads versus tails thang, just because the giants suck doesn’t mean they can’t win 4 games out of 7

i woke up @ 5 AM

just to watch second half W’s LAL game
instead pretty soon i saw Gadz bricking 17footers and Bell airballing everything he could
-basketball i saw make me wanna puke -it was worse than nellieball

what happened to Lee in 1st half? 3 rebs 3 misses s fouls and 5 turnovers? -it’s allstar statline indeed
BTW -it’s sad to see Barnes in Lakers uniform

Even if you do succeed most people wouldn't notice anyway.

Gadz bricking those jump shots was so weak. Why was he shooting from out there?

Heh

I think it’s a combination of motivation of Radman and possibly trying to sell him to other teams for a trade to another team.

by IQofaWarrior on Oct 31, 2010 10:07 PM PDT up reply actions

more likely he confuses contract value with playing value

Ughhhh

I was at the game and I found myself uttering that phrase nearly the entire time. Lee played awful and pretty much had no impact on the game and without Curry it seemed there was way too many one on one fadeaway jumpshots. Biedrins had some nice moves inside against Gasol and Brandan had a nice stint of minutes, and Lin came in and was scrappy which is nice to see. I thought Ellis forced it a bit, but I can see his reason as practically no one was shooting the ball well. Dorell got a lot of oohhhs from the crowd and was solid, but overall it was a disaster. It was even worse hearing all the Lakers fans clamoring for free tacos while we were getting pounded.

"We got some good information on a guy like little Jeremy Lin," Smart said.

it's ok, Keith, really

Just because Lin and Adrien have now each played as many NBA games as you did doesn’t mean you need to sulk.

It’s funny how Smart and Lee talk about how he didn’t “get in rhythm”, as if that would somehow make him taller. There is no scenario where he is getting rebounds over Gasol and Odom. This is exactly why I was disappointed by his acquisition. Yes, he’s a good player, and the best PF the Ws have had in a long time, but he simply doesn’t have the size to allow them to compete with good teams. We can expect the same kind of performance against the Celtics, Magic, etc.

You're welcome

The only way to be a smarter fan and make smarter comments is to read everything and gather all the info possible, and that’s why I do it, energy draining as it may be. :)

what’s not obvious from the box score is that he completely frustrated Derek Fisher, and is perfectly willing to challenge Pau and Odom for possession of the ball. He’s done that to Fisher in two games now – locked him up defensively and denied him the ball. On one Odom drive he came from the weak side and was the only player to even try to contest the shot.

Fisher ate us alive in the first quarter. Lin disrupted the Laker offense and ran ours as a team offense. Just like in the preseason. Disrupt their offense and we get rebounds…. run and make the right pass, and we score. Golly, who would have thought.

Calm down people we lost to probably the best in the NBA....

and it’s only the 3rd game of the season! We’re still 2-1. It’s only one game.

I watched the Giants game on a flat screen HDTV at my college’s campus center, while streaming the dubs online. Good combo, minus the latter’s performance.

Although I liked a lot of what I saw. I thought they stuck to the game plan and had the right mentality, they just didn’t play well. but it looked like they were committed to rebounding, defense and ball movement (most of the time), they just played very, very, very poorly. We could’ve made a lot worse mistakes against the best team in the NBA, on the 3rd game of the season (when they’ve been practically the same team for 3 years), missing our starting PG/ co-star.

by bradyk2 on Oct 31, 2010 11:33 PM PDT reply actions

It was an interesting game, although it sucked. Those referees are either smoking something or are just incredibly biased. How could we not get a SINGLE free throw for 2 quarters?
