Keith Smart
On Tonight's Game:
"We knew it was going to be a struggle defensively. The way (the Bucks) play and pack the paint we had to make some open shots and a lot of our guys didn’t make those open shots. Overall I thought the way we started wasn’t what we needed but I thought our guys competed and played."
On Tonight's Bench Play:
"You’re trying to find a spark, someone to get you back in the game. We were flat, we didn’t have any rhythm, but nevertheless we found a group of guys that got us back into the game. I tried to reward those guys because they did it the right way. They defended, they stayed within the set that we were trying to run, and they rebounded."
On Missing David Lee:
"You can count on his rebounding. You can put it down in the book there’s going to be ten or more (rebounds from David Lee). That’s going to help you against a team like this (the Bucks) that has size and has rebounding."
On Ending The Road Trip:
"I think we’re all ready (to be home). Every team is going to go through that in the NBA. Now we get a chance to get our fans on our back to push us through some of those moments where maybe we made a big run or maybe we have the big run to start the game."
Dorell Wright
On Tonight's Game:
"It was just missing (shots). I know I missed a lot of open, chippy shots that I usually make. Like I said we just have to start the game better and bring more toughness."
On Missing David Lee:
"David Lee was an All-Star last year, he averaged 20 (points) and 10 (rebounds). That’s one of our key players to everything we’re doing. His presence is definitely missed on the defensive rebounding and his toughness. We just have to find a way, guys have to step up and fill in his spot."
Notes
- No interesting notes to add tonight.

I'll be back in an hour or so to recheck
For now, this is all that’s available.
wherefore art though, offense?
Not to be a nerd, IQ, but … it’s “thou.”
Also: “wherefore” doesn’t mean “where.” It means “why.”
/end nerdiness/
I missed the game … was 79-72 really the final score?
There will be no extra point!
Just a typo
I had it spelled correctly in my temp file, and I had it right in the poll. Force of habit made me spell “though” when filling out the title section.

Nope
I don’t read Shakespeare. At halftime, I made up the title of “where did the offense go?”, and it reminded me of this Shakespeare line.

Thanks for doing this for me. Shakespeare’s era of English is possibly the most decadent, silly language ever conceived by man, and by conceived I mean individually guessed at without any real form of organization, as there were no dictionaries at that time. Typos are reasonably as logical as the muddled jargon that passed for communication in that era.

What’s galling to me is that it was force-fed to us in public schools as indisputable greatness. Dissenting opinions on this subject were not tolerated. IMHO, Gerrado’s “Rico Suave” is a far more compelling composition than any of the Shakespeare that was crammed down my throat in high-school and in college. Only one of those two men possessed the literary mastery to rhyme the words “species” and “sushi” yet he is the one not considered part of the “canon”.

Hahahaha!
Rico Suave……………..Suave Rico. Brilliant!
With regard to Shakespeare, I’d put it right up there with your average season of a domestic soap opera. The modern novel is is so much more sophisticated as to be totally unrecognizable from that dinosaur’s fluff. Then again, looking back at public schooling, there really wasn’t anything outside of the hard sciences that they didn’t completely screw up, with the exception of history, in which they simply regurgitated a series of lies with no foot notes published by some corporate goons.

Do NOT Blame On Radman
AT least for tonight, Radman was not as bad as many of you made him out to be. He had a better game than Curry, both Wrights, Carney….. Forget it, I’d say he was better than everybody except Monta, Adrien and Williams. I understand he sucks and shouldn’t get not near as much burn as he receives.
Gadz/Beans sucked together as both have very minimal offenseive and were not effective as Gooden was having his way with them. Both of them were clogging up the hole and made the paint a place where Bogut enjoyed his block party.
We needed Radman out there because he is the best ‘big’ when it comes to streching the floor (w/o Lee of course). His help D was good and the threat of him being able the shoot the three opened up the floor for Reggie and Monta.
The Bucks did a great job of getting back on D and not allowing the Warriors to make a living off of Fastbreak points. The Bucks had a much much bigger team as well. Skiles made a great observation and put Mbah a Moute on Monta and that brought Monta down to earth. D Wright needs some positive reinforcement because you could see on his face how he was getting down on himself for his bad shooting night.
The best thing about tonights game would be the Adrien. He brings energy, fights for rebounds and I liked the one hook shot he had. Hopefully Smart gives him some more burn.

he was probably watching the game where VladRad was
2-4 from deep and 3-8 total for a +/- of -5 when Curry was 3-14 for -12 and D Wright was 2-14 for -10.
"probably get some stitches too! you have a good night! go warriors!" - david lee
Yeah I was at the Bradley Center
watching about 8 rows behind the bench. He was clearly better than everyone else tonight. Curry was a defensive liability on Salmons tonight and was too slow to guard Jennings. Radman sucked with one on one, but did good on team defense. He was better than the big men other than Adrien and opened up the floor by being able to spread the floor. He also was in the game when they had that 12-2 run in the fourth.

Really? I thought his team defense was pretty horrible. Like, I was excited that he helped that 12-2 run, but then felt like his defense was one of the reasons the Bucks came back. He pretty much lost his man when the Bucks did the pick-and-roll, which led to a couple of lay-ups/dunks.

I didn’t notice them being better than anything. they all looked horrible to me.

This is true.
However watch the last minute of the game, Vlad goes up in an ill advised attempt to stop penetration, we leave our man in the corner to guard Vlad’s man, they kick it to the corner and hit the 3. When we did get stops Vlad couldn’t rebound to save his life…

Voted Adrien, because I remember seeing that Lacob followed GSoM on twitter, so in the off chance he glances at the poll, he will see Adrien getting votes, then not see him play, then talk to or fire Keith Smart.
A lot goes into my vote.
are we really throwing Keith Smart under the boat

whoops
"probably get some stitches too! you have a good night! go warriors!" - david lee
I don’t care about the outcome, I care about the process.
There is no possible way to know if a different coach would have gone 6-4 or better/worse with this team, because Smart was the coach when it happened (obviously). Maybe we go 7-3 or 8-2 with another coach, who knows. The point is, that is not the correct way to assess his coaching aptitude.
His process is terrible. I strongly dislike managers/coaches who ignore new forms of information that is readily available to them and go on “feel”. I have no idea if Smart is doing this, but I cannot figure out what else it is that makes him play VladRad so much. I dislike the lack of Jeff Adrien. I was none too thrilled with how quickly Curry and Monta came back from injury. I’m still not sure why he thinks Biedrins is a liability who should not play more than 30 minutes (and if you don’t want to play him at the end, then why pull him out when his foul count is high? Might as well just let him foul out).
I was not a fan of year before retirement Nelson, but I never wanted Smart to be the replacement. So I came into this season expecting nothing, but I’ve got to say, his process is pretty confusing. VladRad is shooting less than 30% from the field and plays terrible defense, and he only played 3 minutes less than Biedrins today. I know we are getting injuries but damn, I would much rather see Biedrins, Wright, Adrien, and even Gadzuric first. How does Vlad end up with 25 minutes played when he should be the lowest on the depth chart?
If Smart can fix that up, fine, I don’t have a problem with his coaching.

So
you complain about his approach to the team, you judge how he plays Vlad and you complain about injuries? Ok let the process begin.
Smart has done a good job having the team ACTUALLY run plays with the flex offense. The team is obviously adjusting and still am working on learning how to execute the offense properly. We’re playing much better D and he has a better relationship with the players than Nelly did.
With Lee out, our current list of bigs have no offensive game what so ever. There contribution is minimal at best. BWright is not showing us anything really and doesn’t bring in any energy. Gadz & Beans are two in the same, guys who do good pick and roll jobs to get easy dunks. I will agree that with the showing yesterday that Adrien should play more because he brings energy, fights for rebounds and has ultra fresh legs. Don’t get me wrong, I cannot stand Vlad, but with us having 3 bigs on ir and the others playing like crap, Smarts options are very limited.
I’m kind of impartial when it comes to letting them play through injuries, but if the players say their ok (Other than the Lee) incident then let them play. The team would have been Reggie, Lin, Adrien, Vlad, Beans, Lee, the Wrights, Gadz and Bell….. Monta & Curry not playing would have resulted in an under .500 record easily and unbearable basketball. The players have to fight through injuries.

Why can’t you just say this, he doesn’t help this team in any way if he can’t make a three. Yes he did finally make a couple but too little and way too late. Adrian hustles and did you see the block on gooden, that was the most entertaining point of this gawdawful game.

ignore new forms of information that is readily available to them and go on "feel".
That’s exactly what he’s said he’s doing.
The thing is, even if you’re going on feel, you should be analyzing the results. He’s clearly not. And we’ll ignore running a play to end the game for the worst shooter on the floor.
Frankly, I expect him to chalk Adrien’s performance up to a fluke (again) just like he has every time Adrien has played. I expect him to continue to play Bell, even though Lin is clearly a better option at this point. I expect him to continue to play Vlad at a position that demands skills he’s never shown. I expect him to overplay Monta in rotations where Curry or Lin are better fits. I expect him to continue to allow the atrocious 3pt gunning of players who shouldn’t be shooting 3s. What’s he’s shown that does help is the zone defense, although he needs to tweak that so we can rebound out of it.
You cannot play Vladi in the post and claim you have a commitment to rebounding. You cannot claim you have a commitment to rebounding and leave one of our 3 best rebounders (Adrien) on the bench. You cannot put two players shooting under .300 on the floor at the same time and expect to score. Bad shooting + bad rebounding = losses. And that’s exactly what Smart has currently been designing.

yes - it's sink, swim, or get keelhauled.
(couldn’t resist)
Seriously, no. But right now, 2 players on the team are better than they were last year – Monta and Gadz. All the rest are worse – substantially worse. This appears to correlate with rotations and using players in counterproductive ways.
Looking at the lineups Smrt has run, it becomes really clear he’s just throwing people out there. Of the 90 I have identified in the first 9 games, only 20 had been repeated, and only 5 used in more than 3 games. Most of them were tried for less than 3 minutes. His top 3 rotations other than all starters are all negative on +/- for extended periods. If this is experimentation, it’s at the level of a fourth grade science project in a school with massive budget cuts.
So the question is – can he learn?
