Keith Smart
On Raymond Felton:
"I’m not satisfied with the way we defended him. He had an incredibly warm night tonight. He played very well, he was aggressive completely opposite the game we played in New York. He had his real game on tonight and made plays. Sometimes you can’t take away from a good player having a great game. I thought our team did a little bit better job on him in the second quarter, but again he’s a crafty NBA veteran guy."

On Reggie Williams:
"I shared with him that he has to be aggressive taking the ball to the basket because he has the ability and go up to where he is trying to dunk the ball. And he did that in the second half, and I think that got him going. That’s how he has to play, not being passive."

On On Monta Ellis:
"Monta (Ellis) is playing like our superstar. Is he a superstar in the minds of everyone else? We got to get somebody else on our team two, three, one guy to get to his level or get halfway to his level because that guy brings it every single night. Not just trying to have a good game, he’s trying to have great games and we got to get somebody to that level… in that category and I think we have that on our team to get there."
Dorell Wright
On Playing Better In The Second Half:
"We had a sense of urgency. We were playing well. Reggie (Williams) came in big for us and hit some big shots. Steph (Curry) hit some big shots and things like that. We were getting stops but at the end we were trading baskets. In key moments in the game when we needed to get stops we were trading baskets and we will never win like that. We know we’re a good second-half team but it starts in the first quarter. Guys have to come in ready, play with some toughness and put our nose on the ball. I think they won every 50/50 ball. We just have to get a little more aggressive and get to the free-throw line."
Reggie Williams
On His Second-Half Performance:
"I realized I came out in the first half flat and I wasn’t really productive. So in the second half I tried to bring more energy and contribute to the team. The whole team just came together and got back in the game, unfortunately we didn’t pull it out."

On Helping Out The Starters:
"I think the starters are playing well. I can’t speak for everyone, I can only speak for myself but coming off the bench I feel that we have to help them out more. Those guys are playing a lot of minutes. Three out of the five starters played in the excess of 40 minutes and we need to help them in that area."

- Louis Amundson is trying to come back on Dec 7, his birthday.

1-3 now in the four games Lee has missed.

Lee missed three games total in the three seasons before this one.

Good point

but you wish your team was smart enough to find a way to succeed without one player, even if it is one of your best players.

unfortunately

we’re missing 4 rotation players as of the moment :/

I still feel that with 3-4 days rest that game was very winnable. There were too many mental lapses. Our guys we’ll figure it out.

4? the only 100% for sure rotation players that are missing are Lee and Amundson.

Wright, Udoh. I think we can count on one of them getting regular minutes.

I believe that ghosts are like dogs. They just do things arbitrarily.

Wright still gets DNP-CD’s and looks to be behind Vlad. Udoh is a rookie and there is no guarantee he isn’t a bust.

well then...

that was dissapointing. knicks just couldn’t miss. we were a health david lee and SOME Knicks misses away from a victory. the warrior curse lives on: we finally acquire an all-star power forward, and the basketball gods repay us by injuring FOUR POWER FORWARDS!!! (Lee, Wright, Udoh, Amundson) Get well soon!!!

Sometimes

a team just gets hot and they win. Felton was in the zone and their european guy was clutch :>)

Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Nov 19, 2010 10:57 PM PST reply actions

probably would have won if they went small sooner. playing Vlad and Gadz were major mistakes. with their 3 rebounds in 30 minutes effort on the glass, might as well just played a small guy instead. you’d think that would be obvious after the first 2 or 3 minutes they were win, but i guess “Smart” was looking at something else.

with Felton going off

in that manner still early in the game, why not try Lin to slow him down ? Gotta love how Smart denounced the Nelson-style line up while Lee can’t play just the other day, but almost pulled off the come back by resorting to it. He was effusive w. his praise of Ellis, but isn’t this kind of game with gaudy scoring while giving up even more supposed to go away with the burned out, h.o.f.-rejected coach?

Lin? don’t you mean Bell? Lin is a d-leaguer who has a roster spot becase he’s asian american.

by the evil monkey on Nov 20, 2010 12:20 PM PST up reply actions

well no

Lin’s a relatively skilled, average rookie backup point guard at this point. Bell is an older, below-average SG.

Obviously you haven’t seen how Lin does compared to Bell.

the 5:30am film session

Yeah, I’d like to go to that, especially if I can put together a series of clips showing Vladi doing the “little things” that show up in our opponents’ box scores instead of ours.

Smart is being stubborn – “I’m going to play Vladi regardless of what the box score shows” isn’t really a rational response, but it is a fair paraphrase of Smart’s. Adrien makes mistakes, bWright makes mistakes, they get pulled. Vladi doesn’t.

The most disturbing comment from Smart is his “the players support Vladi” one. I have been wondering about that, and to throw it out on the table makes me wonder even more. None of our current players are the kind to go off on a teammate in public, so we can’t really get through the spin-smoke. With no basis beyond my “gut” (it must be reliable, Smart uses his, right?) I suspect that Smart may lose the team over this. Players buy into coaches because they win, and the players know who can play and who can’t. If they haven’t already figured it out (and I’m pretty sure some of them have) it won’t be too long until they do.
