Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

Random trade ideas

I don't even know if J Rich is on the block but if the Suns can't get an extension with him maybe they'll be open to this : http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=239hqbp . What do you guys think of this? If this is a no go I'd like ti see us trade Vlad and Wright for JR Smith , for it to work the Nuggets would need to dump Balkman on any random team which wouldn't be too hard since he'd just be given away

Thoughts?

Either of those deals is fine by me. JRich and Smith are basically the same player, imo. Both would bring needed scoring punch, deadeye perimeter shooting and toughness off the bench; and just as importantly, both have expiring contracts. JRich seems to have his head screwed on tighter. Smith is five years younger and has slightly better ballhandling/playmaking skills, which I think is somewhat key given our lack of a true backup PG. Smith and Reggie combined might have just enough PG skills to keep us from ever having to play Lin or Bell in meaningful situations.

Of course, any four-team deal is highly unilkely to happen. Even if we simplify your proposal (say, Vlad and Wright plus a second-round pick for JRich), I can’t imagine Phoenix would want to part with their starting SG unless and until they fall out of the playoff race, which probably won’t happen for a while. Smith seems like a much more viable target to me. (NB: you might want to give currysabeast credit for originally floating the idea.)

There will be no extra point!

Much rather have JRich than Smith, plus bringing back a fan fave makes sense….

How much does he want?

Because being a good team has some inherent value. If the Warriors make the playoffs, they get tons of revenue, national attention, build confidence among their young core, and make themselves a more attractive destination for potential free agents. If they don’t make the playoffs, they remain a non-entity in the national psyche. And either way, they probably end up ceding their first round pick.

Looking at an extreme case: If you could trade Vlad and Gadz for a year’s rental of Carmelo Anthony (or 85% of a year’s rental), wouldn’t you do it?

well, there would be one good thing

less Vlad playing

apparently we can’t count on Smart to figure that out on his own.

Ha, we don't give up much.

I’d do it. But only after Lou gets healthy. Otherwise we might be hitting the Dleagues for bigmen.

Question

Who’d you guys rather have? J Rich or JR Smith?

J Rich, but I’ll take either one.
