The Return of WE BELIEVE
During the Utah Jazz vs GS Warriors game, one of the Jazz announcers said the Warriors were a playoff team. Besides, look at what ESPN has on their 2011 Playoff site ;).
The Warriors can beat the LA Clips and Sacramento, but they will have to beat Houston, Utah, Denver, Memphis and Phoenix to be sure they're in the playoffs. Sure to make it are the LA Lakers, Dallas, Portland, Oklahoma City and maybe San Antonio. New Orleans looks pretty good so far.
We will need a new WE BELIEVE logo, but this should suffice until then.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Every single year
“Wow we have a 5 game road trip against winnable teams, we should easily go 5-0.”,
Then we come back under .500.
I have nothing against it,though.

The fun of prediction is that everything you are trying to predict is utterly unpredictable.
With that said, I predict that the Warriors will make the playoffs or at least be in contention down to the wire. Once we play some more quality teams, not from LA, and play some more road games I think we will have a better idea of what we’ve got with this squad. But before the season I thought there was no way we were going to make the playoffs, so this team has impressed me a lot.
Predictions are "I think the Warriors are gonna go 32 - 50."
I’m not predicting anything nor am I making a slogan. What I am saying is this team has shown me something in the five games and from what they have show me, I BELIEVE they have a great chance to go to the playoffs. The things this year’s team has show from past year’s teams are - better rebounding, better defense, no Cohan, Larry Riley may be a good GM, no Don Nelson and his weird rotations, pretty good offense and great team chemistry. Take a look at the facts: Offense is 10th in the league at 104.8 ppg vs 102.6 ppg for the opponents
- FG % is .455 (little below average of .457)
- 3-PT% is .393 (fourth in the league; .36 is standard)
- APG is at 25.20 (third in the league)
- Rebounding is 46.6 RPG (third in the league)
- 5.8 BLK is (eighth in the league)
- 9.2 STL (fifth in the league)
The big negative is FT% as the Warriors are second to last. They need to hire a free throw coach! They also need to get better shot selection and improve their potent offense.
Usually, it takes a .500 record to get in the playoffs, but in the WC, it is better to shoot for beyond that mark. Still, the West has gotten weaker and teams in the East have gotten better, so a .500 record may do it.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
I don't know why the strikeouts showed up.

I thought they hired him as the FT coach. Can’t get any better than him.
49er faithful since July 11, 1985
I forgot about Price.
He needs to get cracking.
The Warriors did a better job of free throws against the Pistons, but they lost because of weak defense and poor shooting. The shots will come (like Stephen Curry’s in-and-out-3pt-heartbreaker towards the end), but they needed to stop Rip Hamilton or Rodney Stuckey late in the game. Other people still think the Warriors are a team to pad their stats against (I play fantasy league and hear that every week), so the Warriors have to put a stop to that kind of thinking.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
Can’t get any better than him. Can’t get any better than him.
Hard to get better in terms of his ability. I have no idea if he can teach anyone anything.

Not For Nothin...
But “We Believe” should be left where it is… That was a good year (to call it great means we never expect to get a championship), and a special moment for the Bay Area because we had a chance to show what kind of sports town we are, but this year’s team has all of two players who were on that team and comparing them to that team does a disservice to both teams.
Lets be fans… We may have a good team. Lets root for them like we always do, get louder as the season goes on and they prove to us they are for real, and then shock the country again when we do make the playoffs with what kind of fans we are. We don’t need to refer to past “glory days” to prove that, and really just being who we are and being the type of fans we are without a gimmick gives us a chance to transcend “We Believe” and turn into perennial playoff contenders…
Please no.
It’s a really lame slogan. I loved the team it was centered around, but didn’t we always believe a little? We were just actually good for once :/
The Lakers have a bigger chance of missing the playoffs than the Warriors have of making them.
What about your slogan of "The Lakers have a bigger chance of missing the playoffs than the Warriors have of making them."
Now that is really lame.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
It's not a slogan...
The Lakers have a bigger chance of missing the playoffs than the Warriors have of making them.
"u don't think we're gonna make the playoffs? "
I would not bet big bucks on because of the unpredictibility of team health. If healthy it seems we have a shot but still more like 50%/60% chance like sleepy mentioned. Not a sure thing. Its a long season ta go yet.

yeah I'd put it somewhere around 50%
I can’t see us getting higher than the eighth seed with all the talented teams in the West. I think it really depends on whether Utah can hit a stride without Boozer. Once Okur comes back and they get more comfortable with Jefferson, Utah might surpass us for the eighth seed, and who else are we gonna beat out? OKC? Portland? New Orleans?
The Lakers have a better chance of making the playoffs than the W's.
They’re a great team and they look better this year than the teams that won the past two. But the Warriors can make the playoffs with this team. The Warriors will have to make adjustments for close games on the road. Their defensive intensity will have to pick up and it will. They got a new coach that believes in it.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
The thing about the "We Believe" slogan was that it came naturally as a result of what the Warriors and their fans were going through.
It started when the 2007 Warriors were finally healthy near the end of the season, but were 7 games below .500 and had the toughest remaining schedule in the league (21 games left). The odds of them making the Playoffs were very low at that point in the season, and what they did to go 16-5 in the last 21 games (9-1 in the last 10) was amazing.
During that run, there was that Asian guy that would always be at the games holding up a sign that said “WE BELIEVE PLAYOFF”, and after seeing that slogan for a while, it spread like wildfire and everyone started saying “WE BELIEVE!”.
After we clinched a postseason berth, it carried on into the Playoffs and became the slogan for believing we can pull an upset against the top seeded Mavericks.
Like Wesley said, we should just leave the slogan in the past. It represents the 2007 Warriors and what they did, and using the “We Believe” line again would just drag it on and ruin it. As Warriors fans, we should just go with the flow and see what happens this season and maybe another slogan will naturally arise. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up as a 5th or 6th seed and we won’t need the “We Believe Playoff” slogan since we’d end up clinching a postseason spot early on. We’ll just have to wait and see.

we need a new slogan. Giants already took their believe campaign to the World Series championships.
we need the old slogan from 93-94 again?
oh wait we didnt have one, we just won games after game. lol
new slogan please
the “we believe” team was so much fun, and their whole run was simply magical. it would somewhat ruin the legacy of that team if we just attatch “we believe” to every warriors team that might have a chance to make the playoffs from here on out

We Believe worked because it was spontaneous.
Just like for the Giants and their “Giant’s baseball: torture” motto. It worked because it just sort of happened naturally.
If things do end up becoming exciting after the All-star break, I am sure we’ll be coming up with a new slogan.

Yeah on everything you said here.
Yeah on the spontaneous part, the Giants’ torture part, and waiting to come up with a new slogan. We’ll have to see what kind of identity this team develops into. It could end up being a grinding team, or a gritty team, or a team that “brings down the hammer” on the opponent, etc. If our team’s defense gets as tough as a brick wall, our theme could be “brick wall”.
An interesting side note is that the players did have a theme amongst themselves early last season: stone soldiers. They’d just kept coming and coming no matter how many times they got knocked down. And they were stone soldiers throughout the season.
The only thing I disagree with is "We Believe" wasn't a slogan. It was one's core belief in the team from what they have shown you.
The difference is between lip service and delivering the goods.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
I thin I'd prefer "STFU, Fitz" as a slogan

Looking at the standings now actually made me really nervous...
Sure we’re in third place in the West right now, but can we finish the season better than OKC and Utah who are currently out of the top eight? I would think will be playoff teams when all is said and done, and if both of them make the playoffs then two of the teams currently in the top 8 will have to lose their spots…
Its gonna be tough to make the playoffs this year even if we do better than Houston, the Clippers, and the Kings. We’ll need to beat out OKC, Portland, one of the Texas teams, Utah, or some other talented team for a playoff birth. Especially after last night, I’m thinking that maybe the Jazz will end up being the odd team out and we could make the playoffs. Who knows…
i think we make the #8 seed
and i’ve felt that way since the summer. but even if we do make the playoffs, i don’t want to re-adopt the “We Believe” motto. What’s past is past, and even if those were some great memories, I also remember getting crushed inside by Boozer/milisap/AK. This team is going to do well (i hope), but with their own identity.
Goal: 8 seed!
Yeah, something else will crop up when more people actually BELIEVE in the team.
.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
Sigh.
It’s illogical to ‘believe’. You don’t need to ‘believe’, the evidence is right in front of you. We ‘Believed’ that we could push from behind into the playoffs and upset the Mavs. Not that we never should have been there in the first place. Now, there isn’t anything to believe, right now, we are one of the top teams in the league. This is fact, supported by evidence. Now, may we cool off when we play better teams? It remains to be seen. Right now, though, the only thing you need to know, not believe is that we are playing like a good team. This is not unbelievable, it is right in front of you.
Maybe the new slogan should be “Suspend disbelief.” because you’re simply refusing to believe that we could ever be anything more than a bottom feeder #8 seed. That’s your problem. It doesn’t need to be everyone else’s.
'Like' my band. I mean, it'd be awesome if you did that.

the evidence is right in front of you.
Question is…will it be the same evidence by half way through the season. This teams seems to have potential to make the play offs if healthy but we do not have enough games including road trips under our belts yet to call it "evidence"yet.

Maybe you'll believe we got better rebounding.
That’s another key piece to this. The Warriors will have to win the battle of the boards and that starts when you see guys blocking out. Biedrins needs to make some stops, too. He wasn’t being aggressive in that department, so something is still up with him.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
lulz
we are one of the top teams in the league.
I think I need to work on suspending disbelief, because I’m still LOLing at this.
lmao.
Really? You’re just gonna shave off the logical part of that sentence to make a totally unnecessary and ridiculous statement? We are fourth in the west, buddy. that would make us one of the top 8 teams of the league, which has 30 teams in it. Anything better than 10th overall would put us soundly in the ‘top teams of the league’ category, and that’s not even getting into stats at all.
At any rate, I didn’t say that we’re always going to be a top team in the league, just that we are right now. Way to focus on the meat and potatoes, jackass. Cherry pick harder.
'Like' my band. I mean, it'd be awesome if you did that.
I don’t know if the “logic” you referenced makes it better or worse?
Now, there isn’t anything to believe, right now, we are one of the top teams in the league.
So through 8% of the season, which doesn’t really mean anything (or does it?), we’re a top team in the league? Great. If you want to get worked up and print “Anything better than 10th overall would put us soundly in the top teams of the league category” shirts, be my guest. You want to talk about cherry picking? How does 5 games sound?
Right now, though, the only thing you need to know, not believe is that we are playing like a good team
OK. I guess I don’t need to know anything else! I LOL’d because it’s an extremely short-sighted (which you admit to, so then why even post anything at all?) and incredulous post. HOW DARE YOU NOT BELIEVE -type stuff. But, like I said, I will attempt to suspend disbelief. But not because you told me to.
It's cute when you're stupid.
Doesn’t have to mean anything. When I say that the Warriors are a top team in the West RIGHT NOW, it is a completely factual statement. It’s not ‘lulz’ and it’s not at all a joke. You actually cut that entire ‘right now’ part off of the sentence to make a totally unnecessary and stupid point.
We are one of the best after five games. Six games. Seven games. There’s no reason not to believe right now. RIGHT NOW. RIGHT. NOW. HINT.
'Like' my band. I mean, it'd be awesome if you did that.
Willingly Suspend Disbelief

I BELIEVE this team will make the playoffs. You guys should, too. If you think this is about the lil choo choo train going up the hill, (positive affirmations, slogans or predictions, then so be it. LOL.
Give it twenty games and then we can revisit. The team can be better. We still need a go-to guy whether that be Ellis, Curry, Lee or DWright. I think it’s Curry, but a different guy could step up depending on the night. Last night, it was Dorell Wright and David Lee, who looked like a man on a mission. Also, we need to get our defense to be our offense to get some more separation between us and them.
Until then, I BELIEVE.
