Keith Smart
On the Heat:
"They’re good. They have the ability to play through the game and when they need to turn it up, they did. LeBron (James) turned it up in the third quarter, came out in the tail in of the third and made a couple of plays. He didn’t see his free throw numbers go up, but he made a lot of jump shots tonight. They have the ability to do that, those guys are good…they’re good. They know win to push the button. I think what you are starting to see from them they are starting to not defer as much to each other, they’re trying to see what is taking place and then when one guy has it going and has a mismatch they will read that."

On the Warriors' effort:
"I’m not worried, because I think they are playing hard. They are trying to compete and then we have a few minor issues, turning the ball over or missing a rebound. So I’m not worried because they are still working…I would be worried if this team didn’t want to work anymore if they didn’t look like they were competing on the floor, then you would have some flags. But right now I don’t think that’s the case."

On Ekpe Udoh’s Debut:
"He’s good. He sat down on the post, made a nice post move. But we’ve seen that in practice, so some of those things are coming and we see that’s going to be a part of what he can do. One thing I saw, on a baseline out of bonds play he was putting people in place, so that’s pretty good for a rookie to know exactly where we are supposed to be. He’s been out for that long, but he was paying attention to what’s going on around him. He was talking on defense, so he’s going to come along and do a good job when he gets the opportunity to play more."
Dorell Wright
On playing without Stephen Curry:
"It’s definitely difficult, especially with a guy who give us 20 a night and things like that. It’s hard when one of our key players in out. We still need to find a way; we were in the game but slipped in the third quarter."
David Lee
On tonight's game:
"I think they made an initial burst to begin the third quarter with a couple fast break buckets. We got right back into it but then LeBron’s (James) three three’s I guess took it from nine to right back to 18. So that was tough, Dorell (Wright) played good defense all three times and had a hand in his face all three times. When he hits those shots because of his ability to drive to the basket makes it a tough cover."

On his offensive game:
"I am struggling to find my rhythm from coming back. I feel a little bit out of sync. There’s time when I get in a good rhythm like four possessions in a row and make couple of buckets and have couple assists. Then other times where I feel out of sorts and I’m still about a half a step slow in my explosiveness."

On scoring without Stephen Curry:
"I think we can be ok. We played a good defensive team tonight. They made it difficult for us."

i think would have been nice to see at least 10 minutes of udoh.. and not during garbage time..

maybe 5 in the third to shake things up.. and 5+ in the 4th depending on what he is bringing to the team.. but him playing against scrubs tells us almost NOTHING… again are not a healthy team yet.. hahahahahha maybe if curry gets back and b wright get back soon we willl be fully healthy?? 0 . o noooo wayyyyyyy not gonna happen

I don't see how this is really frustrating...

it was pretty much expected. All of these teams are better than us. We kinda suck, even if most of us aren’t willing to admit it yet.

The Lakers have a bigger chance of missing the playoffs than the Warriors have of making them.

A slump, a really bad one against really good teams

Were average, can beat bad teams but can’t beat good teams that simple

well we are closer to being really good. udoh is a big dude with MAYBE some skills. that is a nice thought that provokes optimism,

and even with that we are not a championship team. i hope we can make a good free agency move and get another good draft pick. im not sure which i would rather have ~ a losing playoff appearance coz we just made the 8th spot or totally tank and get a good draft pick knowing we are capable with just one or two more pieces…

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Dec 10, 2010 11:30 PM PST up reply actions

I think we need another good SF

DW is a okay starter but that is it. Just okay. He shouldn’t be playing 40 minutes a game. I really hope Udoh can over take Beans so we can deal him for something. I think our starting 5 is one of the better ones out there when 100% healthy honestly but just too inconsistent.

out side of his 28 pt game his offence is lacking.. tonight what 22 minutes and 2 points?

leaving something to be desired… its not really me wanting him replaced rather its me wanting udoh to be even better than he is.. it seems like udoh will be able to provide some offense. which could open up our whole offense. and having beans off the bench would be SWEET

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Dec 10, 2010 11:56 PM PST up reply actions

Cause he has no offensive game, it's non existent

His rebounding has been sort of up and down, 1 game it’s 20 something board the next it’s something like 3. And it’s not like he’s a great defender like a Perkins to make up for it.

Cause he has no offensive game, it’s non existent

It isn’t great. This season it hasn’t even been good. It’s not “non existent.” Speaking in hyperbole is fun in a game thread, but in a serious discussion it tends to make your argument look weak.

His rebounding has been sort of up and down

He’s averaging 12.5 rebounds per 36 minutes this seson, 12.2 for his career. That’s all you really need to know about his rebounding. It may or may not be more “up and down” than the average player’s, but (a) I’m pretty sure you haven’t done the research to show that it is; (b) even if it is, I’m not sure how he clusters his rebounds makes much of a difference. He’s an excellent rebounder, period.

it’s not like he’s a great defender like a Perkins to make up for it.

A better way to phrase this is, “he’s a much better rebounder than Perkins, but not as good of a defender.”

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Dec 11, 2010 6:04 AM PST up reply actions

When your missing easy hook shot almost under the rim your offensive game isn't good....

His average rebounding is good no doubt but 3 boards tonight? And looking at his game logs he’s had games where he has had 3,4,5 boards coming off of 9 or 10 rebound games or near those numbers. We needed him tonight and he vanished. I know he’s a good rebounder, but I don’t like the fact he didn’t come through last night and has had games where his rebounding takes a fall.

“A better way to phrase this is, "he’s a much better rebounder than Perkins, but not as good of a defender."”

Right, but we need the defender more than the rebounder with Lee in the lineup. More balance upfront.

i agreee maybe a better 3. i like D.W. alot too .. would love to have him off the bench. 20 minutes a night. . unless he is feelin it, then keep him in..
im also not sure about having monta and curry on the same team at the same time.. so small.. weak on defense.. hmm maybe if udoh can become dominant or at least a force that would make our defensive scenario much better… i d k

I really liked how physical Ekpe was when he got in and he had a nice move, lots of energy

Also, I’m over Beans. If Ekpe shows he can be a good starter I’d have no problem trading Beans. 0 offense, none and his rebounding is getting inconsistent. Plenty of times he had a chance to score but instead just avoided any contact he could, there was a time he could have went straight up and score but chose a weird reverse to avoid getting touched.

DW reminds me of Trevor Ariza, good defender, can shoot 3’s but can’t shoot anything else. If theres an upgrade take it (for Beans?), but for now he’s okay.

I actually thought Monta should have shot more, he was playing good and had plenty of open shots but passed them up instead for a kick out.

I liked Law, sorta what we needed, active defender and a good ball handler. If he makes a shot thats a bonus

Lee, ugh when are you going to earn that paycvheck? Missing open layups and easy post shots, with your right hand. Not even your screwed up one. Aren’t you supposed to be good with both?

by PIRATEWARRIOR on Dec 10, 2010 11:36 PM PST up reply actions

All he needs to prove is he's a really good defender and a good offensive player

That is enough to replace Beans for me, Lee can rebound and I think if Udoh played starter minutes could get around 7-8. Maybe a baby Perkins type guy

There is literally nothing we can take from what Udoh did tonight. He played 3 minutes against one of the worst benches in the league.
Ariza can’t actually really shoot 3s.

by Reverend_Randy on Dec 11, 2010 12:10 AM PST up reply actions

Are you going to change your tune if Udoh proves himself to be a decent player?

You obviously bristle at the idea of handing a job to someone who hasn’t proven anything. The problem is, Biedrins has proven something: that he sucks, and is going to be out of the league in a few years.

You keep talking about what Biedrins does well, but let me ask you this: what do you think Biedrins perceived value is around the league right now? For a starting center, he has a reasonable contract, so if he brings as much to the table as you claim he does, he should be very tradable. I can almost assure you this is not the case.

by randolphforpresident on Dec 11, 2010 12:28 AM PST up reply actions

I disagree with your assessment of Biedrins. He hasn’t been great this year, but he hasn’t been bad. He’s been bad at times, but so has everyone on the team. Bad games happen. Monta’s had quite a few awful games and people still call him the best player on the team.
If Udoh plays well and shows that he can handle good rotation minutes, you would have to insert him into the starting lineup, at least on a trial basis.
Biedrins has low value around the league. He doesn’t play enough minutes to really demonstrate his value. His scoring is also way down, both in volume and efficiency.
I think Biedrins has a lot more value for our team than every other team, so we shouldn’t really waste our energy thinking about trading him.

Take a look at Ariza's career 3 point shooting numbers

he’s never had a season where he was an average shooter. In the 09 playoffs, he got really hot from 3. That is where the idea that Ariza is a good 3 point shooter came from- for one 23 game stretch of his career, he hit a very good clip on 3s.

Actually, that’s exactly what it is.
DWright has hit over 40% of his 3s this year and is shooting a very high volume of them. That is very good.
Trevor Ariza has never been good a 3 point shooter. He is a career 31.9% shooter and his best season was 33.4%. That’s bad.
You can accuse of being too literal, but you are saying things that just contradict known facts.

33% is below average for anyone. 35% is average, I think 36% is the breakeven point.
Can you really not admit when you were wrong? Ariza has been a good 3 point shooter exactly once in his career and he picked a really good time to do it- now everyone thinks he’s a good 3 point shooter.

Last season, the average small forward hits 3 pointers at a rate of 34.9%. It is slightly higher this season. The break even point is still 36%.
Trevor Ariza actually played a lot of shooting guard when he was in Houston, so if you sort it by swingmen (which is what he was last season), it goes up to 35.5%. I can’t find the 82games stats from last season to show this, but he had to play a lot of minutes with Shane Battier last season before Kevin Martin showed up.
So, like I’ve shown before, Ariza has always been a poor 3 point shooter during the regular season.

Dorell Wright is a nice player.

But he’s definitely the weak link of this starting lineup. And he has the worst mid range game out there.

by GovernorStephCurry on Dec 10, 2010 11:54 PM PST reply actions

I don't think he is the weakest link in our starting line-up...

But we are allowing him to do too much on offense. A fully health Curry + Lee would most likely fix that problem.

by samuraaaaiiiiiii on Dec 11, 2010 12:02 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, sadly. I’ve always been a Beans fan, but I’m afraid that was mostly because I felt bad for him being the only big on the floor for so long.

If you look at the production by position at 82games… it’s clear that our problems are all in the frontcourt. PG/SG are +4.1 and +2.1 respectively, which means that our PG/SG tend to out-produce the opposing PG/SG. However, our SF/PF/C are -5.1, -5.7 and -5.0 respectively. Now, that might look like SF/PF are bigger problems that C, but that isn’t really the case. I can chalk up the PF spot to being worse than it actually is from Lee’s injury, and the SF spot is probably slightly worse than it should be because Wright is trying to do too much on offense. But at C, Biedrins is close to maxing out what he is capable of, yet that -5.0 is the second worst net loss at the center position in the entire league, behind the Suns… and I can’t even name who plays C for the Suns with Robin Lopez out. Simply put, Biedrins + Gadz are being severely outproduced by whoever they match up against.

He's not THAT bad

What all the Bied-haters have to realize is that Smart, like Nellie, RUNS ABSOLUTELY NO PLAYS TO or THROUGH THE LOW POST!!!!! Get that through your thick skulls. Gasol and Duncan would be low scorers on this team! The only time our PFs or Cs get the ball is off rebounds or passes when the other three positions are being defended too tightly to get a shot off. You never see a called play where Bieds gets a pass at the elbow of the key, with the option to pass or shoot; yet the Spurs, Lakers, hell, even my high school team ran it all the time.

I’m pretty sure that the first handful of trips down the court of every game they feed Beans in the post… And he does a decent job converting sometimes. But that isn’t really the point I was making… We know he isn’t a great offensive player, but a lot of centers in the NBA aren’t. I was making the point that he isn’t as good defensively as everyone seems to think he is.

close, but it was Jack

and the bottle was wrapped in a coat. And the phrase “Oh. My. God. Let me hit the Jacket.” Was uttered repeatedly after halftime.

(Im not glorifying this activity, but it did transpire, so allow me to keep it real.)

Lee is definitely looking almost pecid and soft out there. It's painful to watch him struggle.

+1 for Andris comment. I’m at a point where I’m completely over him—the stupid and silly touch excuse-me fouls and so-so defense/shotblocking, the zero offensive game, the FTs, inconsistent rebounding…I want to root for the guy, but he’s just not tough or skilled. Just ONCE I want to see him lay someone out, show his damn presence.

Even though we got blown out by 22 points,

Im kind of proud of the warriors. They showed that they can hang with the big boys in the league(for at least a half) and im sure when Steph comes back and D Lee is fully healthy we can surprise some people

i am proud also.. im not overly disgusted because there is no way we win the championship this year anyway

and alot of our problems are fixable.. finding a new and good coach is goal # 1
and a goood pickup with our expirings by riley would be SWEET. and if we can manage to be bad enough this year and get one more decent guy in the draft who in a couple years can contribute to us winning the championship. we are very close.. things look good overall. we need udoh to be SPECIAL. may not happen but… ya.. and we need a better 3 spot.. and maybe one more solid PG

UGH!

Hanging with the big boys for a half is not hanging with the big boys at all! C’MON! The game is 48 whole minutes. If you believe that playing with any team in the league for 24 minutes is a badge of honor, I give you the 2009-2010 26win-56loss Golden State Warriors! Whoo!

nice to see them hang on for a good first half at least. some glimmer of hope when the dubs have some offense going!

and…. what is Dorell wearing in that post game interview!?!?

I voted for “I crack my purple nuts with my fingers and shoot laser beams out of my stress balls.”

There will be no extra point!

Added

Ekpe Udoh’s debut and first NBA basket. Also, renamed gumbyorpokey highlights to indicate it’s 1st half only highlights.
