Keith Smart
On tonight's game:
"Those guys played hard over there and fought this game. They played hard and they did what they were suppose to do and it just didn’t fall in their favor. So we have to go back to the drawing board again tomorrow night and get ourselves back up emotionally and ready for a game. To come in here and play and compete and to not have the chance to take it home is hurting these guys. They played as hard as they could to make that happen. It just wasn’t our night."
On Deron Williams:
"Well that’s going to happen. That’s what you pay players like that for. You pay them for fourth quarter heroics, to take over a game and make plays and make big shots. That’s why you have them. That’s why your team moves from one level to another level because you have those guys who can make those plays. He is a good player, an All-Star and an Olympian."
Monta Ellis
On tonight's game:
"We did everything we could, we played our game plan great you know, we made plays and stayed lot of stuff. We did a lot of positive things we just gotta put this one behind us and move on."
Dorell Wright
On tonight's game:
"I think the past few games we’ve been starting the game pretty good and we’ve got to just to go out there and stay together and play hard. It’s not going to be easy at all."
"We gotta still find a way. I think we’re going to be real good especially once we get healthy everybody back but while these guys are out right now we just gotta still find a way."

my god....
is the start of a new decade of dismay… i miss last year at this point… the logo and everything. i watched the 07 playoffs last night on you tube and almost cried. where is that team?? i’ve watched every single game for six years now and this is by far the worst i’ve witnessed. David Lee, you suck. I can’t watch anymore, though i will visit this site to see my fellow fans display there disgust. Keith Smary is not the answer. I miss Nells. He would rock with this squad. Trade em all. I don’t know. I’m done.
Bring back Nellie
The reserves are with the coach. Keith Smart is playing a second unit like he is running the Celtics. That second unit idea is bunk. All the Nellie haters have gotten what they want and they see the results.
Just because Smart is almost comically terrible...
… doesn’t mean Nellie would be good. Maybe we have a few more wins at this point with Nellie, but he was going to be in his last year anyway. Better to get a fresh start and build chemistry with a new coach and roster. Unfortunately, that plan seems to be backfiring as Smart is ridiculous. I think a new coach in the off-season is a done deal unless we go on a crazy tear and get it together the second half of the season.

How about neither?
I’d take Smart over Nellie at this moment because it’s better for the development of the young guys. We all Nellie would never ever play the young cats if he were coaching.

We lost the game half way through 4th quarter because we had absolutely no interior defense and because David Lee (and the rest of the front court) was horrific.
I think it has less to do with Nellie, and more with how bad Smart’s been.

It’s no wonder Smart is a fail.

could be used to describe the BFDB coming back or the Warriors 1 – 11 losing streak. However, we’re not the Cohan run Warriors anymore. New management left themselves an option (I think). They may give Jerry Sichting a chance.
"Go ahead. Make my day."
David Lee most definitely does not suck
I wholeheartedly agree with your entire statement, other than the part about Lee. Did you not see that HOLE IN HIS ELBOW he’s been playing with ever since he came back, and still averaging around 16 and 9. I’d like to see you making 12 – 14 NBA free throws with THAT on your shooting elbow. That’s ridiculously tough, near impossible. Sure, he’s made some bad decisions offensively, but when healthy, he’s a 20-10 guy (He’ll get there. I don’t want to hear anything about the first 8 games, when he was still adjusting to a new system which offers nothing offensively, and new teammates, and moving to the opposite coast of the USA). He’s our best post player since, well, it’s been such a long time ago, no one comes to mind other than Wilt Chamberlain. He’s at least our best big since Chris Webber (who left shortly after he arrived) so cut him some slack, and realize what he’s been playing through to give us another body, tremendous effort, some extremely high skill, IQ, and simply fun.

GSW is a jynxed franchise, period
they seem to almost always trade away success. Why? PROFIT.
Fans, the Bay Area has had loser ownership in its sports franchises in baseball, basketball, football, etc…
GSW tops ’em all though!
I would have traded Monta last season for Mayo and the young Uconn Kid and that other player. Monta is a choke artist and can’t deliver in the clutch. Misses free-throws, never has his head on for 100% of any game, etc…
Lottery pick team who will get the shaft in the Lottery system again and again and again and again.
Looking at past history, GSW loses probably cuz it has never has a dominant big guy in a long arse time. If GSW had Amare Stoudamire instead of the Knicks, I guarantee GSW would have a winning record and only be a couple games behind the Lakers at worst!

your right!
I agree. this team is the most horrible i’ve seen since the TMC days. No one wants to play defense by stopping or slowing the ball. no interior defense. no help defense no communication. no hustle. At least the pst years they tried to fight by scoring more that the other team but that’s not happening cause there is no ball movement and player are just standing around waiting for the play to develope and not creating themselves. Just play basketball guys. It might help than just still trying to learn the play while in an actually game. You guys should already know it already. You guys seem to only have two plays for sure which is isolation with Monta and coner shot three from Dorell. Wow. And turnovers suck so bad. Curry likes to pass it to the other team. Lee likes to kick the ball like soccer after trying to dribble. Wright likes to step out of bounds while the game is still in play and getting picked alot cause he dribbles like a bicycle with a busted wheel. Monta just gives up on defense when his man drive to the basket. Biedrins a 6’11 – 7’0 ft. center who likes to do reach in fouls instead of trying to block shots. keith smart doesn’t get mad at mistake or turnovers that they do. Just nursing them as if they were 5th graders learning how to play the game yet they’re NBA players. he’s afraid he might hurt their feelings kind of attitude. Radmanovic single handly detroys the team when he plays for only 3 minutes by doing everything mentioned above. No one is hungry to play in this team. And i find myself getting angry watching the Warriors instead of WE BELIEVE. God help me cause you can’t help the Warriors.
Finally, the T-wolves game is upon us....
we can finally get a win!! (i hope….)

I DONT EVEN WANT a f'n win right now.... SERIOUSLY.. im on tank mode...
what will your win do for you?? ANSWER THAT get u into the 8th seed?? to lose the first round to the spurs or dallas? gimme a break.. NO DRAFT PICK TO FOLLOW EITHER.. the TRUE smart way to finish the season is not to intentionally tank but to intentionally rest ur starters so that they will be healthy next year and the years after that AND to develope ur 2nd unit.. LIN… LOU…. UUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH….
but to play vlad and bell and crap like that is to give experience to guys who surely wont be on our team in the near future and is a MISTAKE A BLOOOOOODY MISTAKE…. fire smart for not figuring THAT out

A first round playoff appearance this year would be better than tanking cause this is a weak draft class. The playoff appearance would have more team building value than the draft spot since there are no apparent big stars coming out . If DLee and Binky get healthy pretty soon we still got a shot at the 8th seed, we can play pretty good ball for short stretches we just gotta cut down on the mistakes and value possessions more, our margin of error is razor thin.

Good news, apparently the Warriors have a 2.1% chance of making the playoffs!
According to John Hollinger’s NBA playoff odds, the Warriors now have a better chance of winning the draft lottery than making the playoffs. The equation projects that the Warriors have a 5 percent chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick and a 2.1 percent chance of making the playoffs.

I thought Smart did a horrible job in the first half. He played Vlad and Gadz in the frontcourt, at the same time nonetheless. When he did this too he also had freaking Charlie Bell and Acie Law in the game as well.
The lineup at the time was:
Law
Bell
Wright
Vlad
Gad
I had no idea an NBA head coach could somehow fathom to actually use that lineup in an NBA game. It was baffling. I don’t know what’s going to happen to Smart. It’s getting hard to watch, and even his supporters have no clue what he’s doing in cases like this.
I had no complaints in the 2nd half really. Utah’s a better team…they won, not surprising. But when I see lineups like that, it’s almost conceding the game.
Lets hope Coach gets better, Lee + Steph finally get healthy, Monta gets back on track, and that we make a few trades to bolster the bench.
That’s all i got.

Are there actually any Keith Smart supporters?
… I mean, there are plenty who say “wait and see, it’s too early to see how the team will come together”….and that’s reasonable, but is there anyone watching games who feel Smart is doing a good coaching job? Anyone?

I was one of those people who said wait and see.... but I'm losing my patience
He put in Charlie Bell, and he shot an airball come on now. Some of Smart’s subs have me scratching my head. Put in Udoh earlier not for the last 2 minutes…
by GSdubsfan41 on Dec 13, 2010 10:12 PM PST up reply actions
I wish Udoh played the last 2 minutes
He got 59 seconds of game time, and I don’t remember him being within 10 feet of the ball on any occasion. If that’s how he plans on developing our #6 pick… I’m just speechless.
"Basketball is like war in that offensive weapons are developed first, and it always takes a while for the defense to catch up." - Red Auerbach

Udoh can develop in practice. In reasonably close games, we don’t need him screwing up and blowing his confidence. Granted, it would have been nice to have Udoh in a little earlier, but that wasn’t the problem with this game.

New management.
They had limited options in what they could do. I think they did not want to make wholesale changes blindly like Larry Ellison would have done. Thus, they took out what they could (the bad) and test drove what else that Cohan left behind. Cohan definitely left things in place on purpose like the new unis for his Warrior legacy (it was more like his sick ego). They also don’t run things like Cohan and bring Nelson back for the umpteenth time. They should have something in place in case the “test drive” failed.

He can’t play them all 40+ mins yet we are gonna kill him for playing the bench which sucks? It’s a bad situation all around and in my opinion it’s on Larry Riley. We could have done better than Carney and Bell.

GSW has a poor offensive front court with less than average skills needed for an nba front court. Biedrins is disappointing cuz he ain’t more of a dunker dominatrix type. The forwards flat out can’t score with their back to the hoop. The guard play neess more driving to the hoop and less outside shooting when the shots ain’t falling.

why are (and were) there no pick and rolls between monta(curry)/lee? why does smart randomly call out a halfcourt set when the team is running on the break? where is this ‘defense’? did we get lee to play to his weaknesses or something and just keep giving it to him at the post?

I’d be okay if Lee sat a game or two, at this point. He shot so poorly last night, we would have been better off with Amundson in, I think. Also, when is B. Wright coming back? If that dude ever got healthy, he could do some nice things. His offense would be nice to have off the bench.

Lee's picks have been soft and sort of lazily rolls to the basket
His elbow is quite clearly affecting his game.
What more worrisome is that except for some spurts, Biedrins has been the same way, and doesn’t have that excuse of an injury. The Monta-Biedrins p&r used to be pretty deadly, not it’s just an afterthought.

Bell+Gadzuric
Should never see playing time, ever. Especially Bell, so bad.
I want Ekpe in for Biedrins, I want Lou in for Lee. Williams should look to score every single time when the 2nd unit is out there. Vlad, although terrible, should back up Wright and give him some breathers. All he needs to do is sit at the 3pt line and defensively prevent open perimeter shots. With Ekpe and Lou in there the most drives should get stuffed. Law is a solid PG, good defender from what I’ve seen. A 2nd unit of:
Law
Williams
Vlad
Lou
Ekpe
Is much, much better than all that other bullshit Keith Fart is trying to do. And in most circumstances, you will see some starters put into the mix, so the lineups would still be effective.
Gadz
Is actually (and sadly) one of our better options off the bench right now…IMHO
Not because he’s really good, but just because the other options are so crummy

This was probably the worst experience watching the Warriors game
I’ve had since 5 years ago. I was full on mad at the end of the game at Smart, flopping jazz, their annoying fans, Radmanovic, Lee and the crap organization we have.
the crap organization we have
The new owners have only been here a few months, and we’re stuck with this bench until we can find good trades or something. I don’t think we can say we’re crap just yet.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is Monta Ellis when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
well I hope we improve with new owners (and we probably will)
but at the moment it’s nothing short of crap
there is no way this team is this bad, but sadly we are
it all starts from the top, keith smarts needs to take a step back and look at what he got. hate it or love it, this team is not build for half court offense. while defense is important. we are not playing baseball where scoring a run is sometimes hard to come by. we are playing basketball where teams scorings almost 100 points a game.
let them play some dam basketball. and learn to piece together fucking lineups that will work. we have lost more than enough games to know that this team needs some work. we go out there game after game looking dead from the get go. always falling behind by a big margin only to come up short……
Haters Gonna Hate
Why does this game mean we’re bad? It was the Jazz, in Utah. LOL Granted, our losing streak doesn’t bode well but give it a month or so to get things together. Geze.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is Monta Ellis when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

However, the Warriors still get the excuse of key injuries, and can play that more if they like. I had questions whether our team with DLee as our best bigman could compete, and I am leaning more and more that it won’t.

I think we just need a solid bench, and we’ll be a tough team. Against the Jazz last night, we were quite competitive most of the game but really suffered from lack of bench contribution.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is Monta Ellis when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Theres really no excuse for not Playing Udoh
When Utah has a scrub like Evans scoring on 4 alley oop dunks, Udoh is the only guy on our squad with the skill set that can stop that crap. Are you telling me that Udoh is not a better option than Gadz? Come on Keith, let the kid play and maybe just maybe he will add some fire to this squad. Next time some guard blows by a player on his way to the rack maybe, just maybewe will have someone there to stop him. UDOH!!!!!!
And one the one play Udoh was in
He got burned so bad on the p&r giving up a wide open dunk.
Yes, Udoh needs the minutes to develop, but don’t make the argument saying he’ll instantly make our D better. The guy hasn’t played since the NCAA tournament.
