Otis Smith: Extraordinary Testicular Fortitude
Or in layman's terms, his huevos are the size of basketballs.
Why I made this fanshot: it's one thing to be in talks for a trade. It's another thing to be contemplating a shakeup, or mulling things over. It's even another thing to go in firesale mode and aim for financial stability in expense for talent. But what Otis SMith has done is close two complex, multi-team blockbuster deals. He's taken a huge risk, yes, and may have jumped the gun for just a bit. But just for a second, let's admire the boldness of this man in taking decisive, ballsy action.

ya
magic making deals, suns making deals, wizards making deals, when the hell is lacob going to make one?
If Gilbert and Hedo return anywhere near his top form
They’ve got to be considered for favorites in east….
It’s a HUGE gamble, but Otis Smith had no choice in my opinion. Stay the same or throw a hail mary. They didn’t exactly have attractive trade prospects. Long/Big contracts. Only Gortat was really an attractive piece and he alone would not bet a difference maker.

Meh. Seems like a lateral move at best to me. They probably upgraded slightly at the wings, but that wasn’t really a weak spot. Richard seems somewhat redundant to Redick and Gil seems somewhat redundant to Jameer Nelson. And who spells Howard now when he’s tired or in foul trouble? Bass? Orton? Ugh.
They still have a great coach and the second or third best player in the league. They’re still squarely #3 in the East and #4 or 5 in the league, imho.
There will be no extra point!

Yeah they didn't really improve much.
But they seriously hurt their future financial situation.

I'm not very high on Reddick or Jameer to be honest
Good players no doubt but Gilbert and JRich (and Hedo) at top form are superior players. Now the question is will Gilbert and Hedo return to that? My money is on no… which is why I say it’s a huge gamble…
You have a legitimate point on depth at center. Still, that’s not impossible to find, clearly not at gortat’s level but passable one.
Do they have anything we want for Gadzuric? Or maybe they’ll move Jameer for that (more likely scenerio)

I’d argue he’s #1 most influential player on a game.
I think if Gil shows them anything
they should absolutely trade Jameer. I’m sure he has SOME value around the league.
I'll sell this vacant lot and settle down in a place I've only read about in books about Miles Davis.

I hope he does
Always loved Agent Zero. This could be type of move which gets him motivated a la Baron to GSW?
That's what I'm hoping for.

Eitherway...
Orlando didn’t have a weakness per say… they needed a playmaker more than anything, or another all-star caliber player. Arenas HAS been that guy (doubt he will be again, but that’s their gamble). JRich + Hedo as your 3rd/4th option are pretty good.
(I keep having more thoughts, sorry for triple reply)
It’s eerily similar to the Shaq move to Phoenix. Gamble. In theory it could have put them over the top, but it didn’t. No telling on this but odds are no.
