Thoughts about the Portland game.

Well that was depressing.

There were a few things that I just did not understand from the Portland game and I hate point fingers, but I am, and it's directed towards Coach Smart.

In my opinion, the few minutes when the W's looked the best were when Gadzuric, Amundson and Wright were all playing together. The W's weren't hitting shots the entire game, but at least during that short stretch, they were crashing the glass, playing gritty D, coming up with second and third chances.

Granted, they looked terrible while doing this, but at least it wasn't one shot and out, and they were staying competitive.

What really didn't make sense to me was that Portland was banged up. They had Oden, Camby and Pryzbilla all out. When we went with Lou and Gadz, it showed that we could have had a huge advantage all night long in the frontcourt positions. However, Smart played Amundsun, Gadz and Udoh, 15, 10 and 0 minutes respectively.

That made absolutely no sense to me.

Secondly, Acie Law is a waste. I would rather see Lin or Bell in there than him. He for some reason, has this swagger about him, but why? He's terrible? He looks decent against terrible competition, but he looks really bad against anyone who plays solid defense. He can't shoot and commits stupid fouls on D.

Lastly, I hate to say it, because Monta is our best player, but we need to trade him. I feel he is going to be a perennial 25ppg type player who never makes the playoffs. He's a padded stats guy who on a good team would average 17 ppg. Do you really think Popovich would allow him to chuck 23 shots per game in the one-on-one fashion that he does? He would be benched so quick.

I'm happy with Curry, Lee and Biedrins. While Biedrins has his limitations, he is a very solid role player, with a lot of room to grow. We haven't seen the health Lee yet and when we do, I think he'll produce more than he is right now. Curry, I think we can all agree is our favorite and the future of our franchise.

Therefore, that leaves the 2 and 3 positions open. D. Wright, I'd feel just fine giving him the 6th man role. If we could get someone like Iggy, I think D. Wright would be a great role player. But we need an impact player at either the 2 or 3 positions.

I think what's going to happen is the W's might make one small move, nothing worthy of getting excited about, but this summer, they will be actively seeking a top 20 player with Monta, Biedrins and all of our expirings. I hope it's Iggy or someone of that calibur.
