Keith Smart
On tonight's game:
"This guy is playing at a great level for us, he is our All-Star. He’s playing every night, every practice. You dream for a guy like that who’s going to bring it hard and play at a high level every single night and practice at a very high rate. Being here with him so long and watching the evolution of him as a real count-on person, one that you can count on every night knowing he will play hard. Some nights he may not play well, but he’s going to try and do the right things."
On a lineup with Jeremy Lin, Acie Law and Ekpe Udoh:
"I was searching for energy. I was searching for energy in the building, energy on the floor. And those guys did it. They got us right back in the game, got us right on their heels of trying to win the game. They did a great job, Ekpe (Udoh) played great. Like I said he was going to get a chance to play and he played fabulous. He did things on both sides of the floor, a dunk on one side, and sprinted to the other end. That unbridled enthusiasm as a young player is what you want and he blocked the shot at the other end. He’s going to be a fine player for our team in the NBA for a long time."
On playing Jeremy Lin:
"I had no plans (to use him). I looked down there and just felt…the guy works every day. Everyday he calls the coach and he’s in there in the early morning working in the gym and I can’t overlook that. I got to look at guys that work hard and want to work hard all the time and he does that. He’s going to make his mistakes, but he works hard and tries to do what you want him to do and tries to defend some people. Again he came in with that group to try and get us back in the game, it was my intention to not play him tonight but he got in and that was it."
Monta Ellis
On tonight's game:
"We have to stay focused as a team and hopefully get over this hump. We have a couple of guys still down, key guys, but we're competing. It just didn't come out our way. They made a lot of big shots down the stretch and they won the ball game."
On Ekpe Udoh:
"He did a heck of a job offensively and defensively. He had an all-around game tonight. He brought the energy and did everything I expect he'll do when he gets a lot of minutes to play."
David Lee
On Ekpe Udoh:
"Ekpe (Udoh) came on and had his first (game) where he had an extended amount of minutes and did a good job. He is very active. The biggest thing for him is to get into complete game shape so he can do it for a long extended period of time. He can be a guy this year that can help us out. He has a great work ethic."
Notes
- Don Nelson was at the game sitting next to Larry Riley.
- According to MT2, BWright said before the game that he will make his return on Sat (Christmas Day) against the Blazers.
- Acie Law has not had time to settle into the Bay Area. He's still living out of a hotel.
- Smart has an idea on what his rotation will be when everyone's healthy.
- David Lee thinks his elbow is getting better and won't be an issue to talk about soon.
What's next?
- It's a bus ride up to Sacramento where we face them on a back to back tomorrow. Then 3 days off before our national Christmas game on Sat.

nba.com highlight: Ekpe Udoh Doing It All
"When Freddy Krueger goes to sleep, he has nightmares of Udoh"
maybe I should make a shirt with that saying… lol
We need a new SF, DW needs to be a ctach and shoot/defender off the bench. Udoh was amazing along with Monta. If Udoh keeps playing well Beans becomes even more exposable. Trade him for a SF along with expirings and BW for G.Wallace. We wasted Ekpe and Monta’s great games cause no on else did much.
Lee quietly went 8-11 but only had 6 boards. I blame the loss on Smart for taking out Udoh late. He said he looked tired, BS. Udoh should have stayed in. This is the first game I’m mainly blaming Smart. Shouldn’t fire him but he really blew it.

This game was a failure on several levels
-Dorell Wright should NOT be taking all those shots. It’s really at the point this season where he’s starting to shoot us out of games. Stop taking the contested jump shot. Drive, pass, and shoot open 3s. Simple.
-Radmanovic’s been playing better, true. But he should not be getting 16 min a night, especially when we have a guy at the 3 in Carney who has been playing well lately. Radman getting big minutes at the 4 over Amundson and Udoh is NOT acceptable.
-Udoh played great, and made some big plays. He also played good interior defense in this stretch, and we take him out of the game?? I could understand taking out Lin, but Udoh? He was on fire! David Lee could not guard Scola to save his life! I lay the blame directly at Smart’s feet; this was just questionable coaching pure and simple.
It’s clear that the Warriors have a lot of talent, but their execution is absolute trash. And time is running out; 1/3 of the season is now gone.
The guys at NBA TV said it best, “bad teams find a way to lose”. And the Warriors on every level did that tonight at the end of the game. You just don’t lose games where one of your players go 15-20 for 44 pts. Unbelievable.
listen Jaguarundi, you need to chill
Even the best teams in the league cannot play a perfect game, it’s impossible. Sure, the Warriors had a few avoidable mistakes that could’ve gave them the victory, but there’s no point getting infuriated over them. You need to accept the fact that the Rockets were simply a better team tonight. Both teams made mistakes, but the Rockets were experienced enough and talented enough to capitalize on the Warriors’ untimely head-scratchers. Golden State played as well as you could expect, especially considering they were missing their starting point guard (possibly their best player) and center. Commend them for all the effort and fantastic plays. They’ll probably finish the season with a fairly woeful record, so save the condemnations for losses against awful teams (See tomorrow: Sacramento Kings haha)
As for your points:
-Dorell has made those same mistakes all year. You just have to get used to it and every once in a while he’ll catch fire and set the franchise record for 3’s, or make a fantastic defensive play giving us momentum.
-Radmanovic has played relatively outstandingly these past few weeks, and he deserves the extra playing time. He was a major reason the Warriors got the lead in the late 3rd/early 4th so he deserved to stay on the court, so as not to interrupt their rhythm.
-Udoh clearly had his best game this year (he’s played so little otherwise so no surprise there) but in the few minutes before Smart took him out, he appeared completely lost out there. The pressure and intensity got to him and he lost his mojo, leading to a major lack of confidence offensively. In case you missed it, one David Lee replaced him, who’s our best big man and had one of his best games of the year. Personally, I was more frustrated that he took out the hard-working Lin for D-Wright.
Regarding your final statements: As I said, the Warriors played exceptionally well under the circumstances, and Monta did play unbelievably, but the Rockets were simply better, executed their offense, played efficiently, came up with the loose balls, and deserved to win (as much as I don’t want to admit).
"It ain't Chinese algebra. If you get stops and you execute on offense, normally that team wins." - Tony Allen
"One thing LeBron James has won that Kobe Bryant never has, and never will: A bronze medal."- Josh Tucker
I agree. The Rockets Deserved to win.
They’ve been playing better and I believe they’re probably around a 40+ team this season. But I don’t buy the fact that because Beidrins and Curry were out, that we should be giving this team slack. The end of this game was all about a break down of execution, that could’ve been prevented with more carefulness.
I think the difference in our opinion all comes down to perspective. You think the Warriors are playing bad, and it’s ok because they’re a bad team. I see a currently bad team wasting talent and losing the games they should be winning in order for them to catch that 8th spot. So I’m probably going to be more frustrated this season :)
Btw, looking at Dorell
his stats show he’s shooting inefficiently. Sure, he’s had some nice games, but overall the results have not been good. Smart should not be giving him as much freedom as he has.
he shouldn't have that much freedom
but we unfortunately have no other reliable option at the 3, unless we go small. I’m all for going small, but not if we continue playing a half-court offense
"It ain't Chinese algebra. If you get stops and you execute on offense, normally that team wins." - Tony Allen
"One thing LeBron James has won that Kobe Bryant never has, and never will: A bronze medal."- Josh Tucker
Some players know when to show restraint
and how to play within themselves. But he’s forcing it out there. Dorell’s basically picked up where Steven Jackson left off, without the ability to create his own shot. Not looking good. Ideally, I’d like to see him at 10 shots or less a game unless he gets hot.
Best Post
Monta scores alot, but also has an unforced turnover problem, bad shot problem, clutch problem, IT factor problems, winning attitude problem, etc…. Monta plays like he never wants to be on a playoff team unless he is traded to a team already playoff bound. Monta is an underachiever and has that whiny look on his baby face chizzle. He misses easy lay-ups, gives-up defenseively too often when he gets beat, takes funky arse outside shots instead of driving to the hoop…….The guy is just a LOSER.
Then there is Rad – this guy is like rotting goat cheese that was never even palatable when it was freshly curdled.
Then, there is Keith Smart and his mindless rotations/shifts. He pulls out players playing good in an effort to make happy those who get paid more. Frack that bs. It is about competition, not pay scales. If someone is making bank, produces jack schit, and STILL THINKS THEY DESERVE TO BE PANDERED TOWARD, I say trade that arsewipe consceded greed masterbator.
Then, the ownership – gotta have the balls to schit can the FO!!!!!!!!!!
Hey everyone, a winner is someone who plays a lot of minutes in a game, even though he isn’t even leading the league in MPG.

So he can play lots of minutes
Anyone else care to play more minutes?
I am not saying he is a loser cuz he plays a lot of minutes – he is a loser cuz he is a choke artist, lacks the IT factor, is a cry baby, commits too many errors, etc….
I said this is how he is after learning of his moped-gate lies. He is jynxed and damned with GSW, period.
wow
just. wow.
jlcdb70, put it on simmer, and then find someone else to blame.
I can tell you’re frustrated, but Monta played at a very high level last night. Yes, his defense was not great and he missed a few plays (even took a few off), but how much more do you want out of the guy? KMart is a tremendous offensive player, no shame in giving up points to him

Ok, I had my brim after filling it to the rim
Let’s talk free throws – ya think Monta gets GSW closer to winning games if he actually gets consistent?
And, what about he lame shot selections, missed lay-ups, lack of killer mentality, etc….
You check out how fired up UDOH showed as he dunked, then blocked a shot at the other end. So, why can’t Monta get fired up game in and game out? Answer – he lacks leadership qualities.
Lastly, who expects a coach or organization that has destroyed a playoff team to create tension with someone tension had already garnered and that successive tension could lead to less desire by Monta to give 100% game in and game out.
He has skilz, but I just don’t believe he helps GSW out as a whole. He needed to get traded last season and was not. GSW will have to face their maker when the time comes to rectify a mistake…………………
Face it, GSW is Curry’s future team, not Monta’s.
I wish the mods would ban posts like this
Just straight unadulturated hate.
Can someone come up with ANY logical point on how Monta was in anyway responsible for last nights loss?
Hatred or reality check
Are you watching the same mistakes occur time in and time out, time and time again by Monta; or, is it just that he is the only real offensive threat GSW has, so over-look the mistakes?
He is a terrible player to build a franchise around, especially after lying to the organization due to fear of losing wealth, which is greed, don’t you think.
Should fans continue to subsidize stadiums, arenas and sports lifestyles when the fan ain’t gettin back true love for the game or the fan base? Monta is a let-down as he has yet to mature as responsible pro basketball player – this includes wins to go along with such rich lifestyles that are as a result of some pre-arranged commitment to win.
Now, if Monta was makin’ much less, then this discussion would be irrelevant cuz the organization would have had more money to go after an Amare Stoudamire or another better player as a free agent.
Last, I don’t wish negativity on Monta, no, not at all. I hope he wakes-up one day and has a paradigm shift. Yet, as a sports fan living in the real world, Monta is failing his billing. Even the GSW team announcers are beginning to understand reality – listen to’em sometime, they have basketball IQ and game experience themselves.
Your still mad over the moped?
Yet to mature? Did you not see the entire offseason with him? And how he’s been talking or did you just ignore that? No one is suggesting building the team around him, no one. Not one person.
"There is nothing like a wise phrase or quote to help convince others that your decision makes sense." - Anon
"If you're ever in a fair fight, then your tactics suck." ಠ_ಠ
Look at his face when the team is losing
He wants to cry, but can’t. He looks lost and like he knows the writing is on the wall. Sure, he has adapted his public relations – I would too if I was embarrased like him by telling lies to deceive the very organization that just shelled out lots of money for a career.
Not mad, jsut trying to tell ya all that lkiars are jynxers upon those who stick around with liars – especially liars for whom one still questions as to whether or not that liar wants to be a dub or traded like last seasons chatter.
Again, he has skilz – no doubt. He just ain’t ever gonna pan-out as a dub, its not in the cards that the gypsy is showing, that’s all.
The guy is just a LOSER.
Boy the hate heard is back in full stampede mode!

The easiest and fastest way to make the Warriors playoff contenders is to get an All-Star SF and bring Dorell off the bench. Agreed.
-Radmanovic’s been playing better, true. But he should not be getting 16 min a night, especially when we have a guy at the 3 in Carney who has been playing well lately. Radman getting big minutes at the 4 over Amundson and Udoh is NOT acceptable.
It was the Ellis-Law-Lin-Udoh-Vlad (?!?!?!) lineup that brought us back into the game in the first place. At least give credit where credit is due. Amundson was fouling all over the place last night.
The guys at NBA TV said it best, "bad teams find a way to lose". And the Warriors on every level did that tonight at the end of the game. You just don’t lose games where one of your players go 15-20 for 44 pts. Unbelievable.
You do when that player refuses to play defense. It was one of the worse defensive performances Monta has had in a while. Monta was playing D like we had Dwight Howard in the paint ready to swat balls outta there. It works okay when we had Udoh (and maybe perhaps with Biedrins back), but he was giving up more penetration than Jenna Jameson last night. Yes, his offensive performance was good, as it usually is when he squares off against Kevin Martin. We just don’t have the talent to stop guys on the perimeter, nor stop them in the paint when they get there.
Was Monta the main reason we lost? No, I’d say it is more due to Dorell and Reggie really sucking the hard one. We know Monta can get his points, when Curry gets back we know he can get his too. DLee was looking better on O last night. The key to victories is for that 4th guy to light it up. Earlier in the season we had Dorell getting open look after open look, now we are hard pressed to find that guy who can provide the last bit of oomph we need to win. From last season to this season, we know Monta is not the Lebron-type who can carry a team on his back all by himself.
The Golden State Warriors, we make Free Throws look difficult!

It’s the coach K Smart. He doesn’t know when someone is doing good so he takes them out and punishes them. I f they do bad he keeps them in like D Wright who goes for 4 and 15 shooting.

I only got to watch the first half, which was only about 6 minutes of Ekpe Udoh.
During this time, he left a pretty solid impression on me. Good looking post-d, blocked a shot. I checked his stats at the end of the game and they were very legit. Man, if that’s what we get out of Udoh, that would be sweet.

he was really good, but i don’t think by this one game we can say that he will become a top tier center

I may have been the biggest Udoh fan here but even I chuckled at that one…..hope you are right Duby. Even if he becomes a solid backup to Beans for the next few years I would be happy….but ya never know. He seems to have a head on his shoulders, some offense potential and physical potential plus desire…..

He just needs time to figure it out and get more assertive on offense. He has a post game, rebounds well and is a really good defender. He’ll be better than Andris very soon

One of the reasons we chose him is because he had a pretty good jump shot in college. If he can hit those and pull down defensive rebounds at a little better rate, he will be a top-tier center. Our scouting during Nellie era part deux has been pretty high quality, as it turns out.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is Monta Ellis when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

On the replay, the TO wasn’t as bad as I thought. It was a tricky thing and I thought Vlad got hit pretty hard on the forearm. The subsequent flagrant was dumb, probably out of frustration. I wouldn’t be too hard on Vlad for that particular sequence. He did some good things this game.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is Monta Ellis when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
Oh Vlad
It’s almost too easy to bash the guy
D Wright had a couple of bone-headed sequences too (I’m thinking of the end of the first half). He pretty much single-handedly gave up a 6 or 7 point swing
Horrible TO on offense, runs down, gets burned on D on a semi-fast break, then turns it over under the basket for another easy basket for the rockets.

If we can tighten up the coaching

this is why I’m still optimistic. We have been in these last two games. I keeping thinking back to Sleepy’s write-up a while ago “almost”
we are sooo close, but the gap is wide enough to keep us on the losing end of these games. Still, decent coaching (or less dumb mistakes – I think they’re related) and we win in Portland and vs. Houston

True, but it is painful not too see more desire and emotion by the top players
Can Monta be like Kobe game in and game out?
I don’t think so cuz when Kobe is losing’, he lets everyone know it as a leader only does.
You really have to want it to win it – Monta has shown nothing as a pro in so far as desire or really wanting it. Free throws are killing the dubs too, along with missed lay-ups and poorly taken shots.
