Larry Brown as our head coach?
This is GSW chance to get a coach that really gets defense to turn things around here.

I would love Larry Brown as our head coach
I havent read up on why he stepped down but I find it weird because he turned the Bobcats around last season. He is one of the main reasons why they made their first playoff appearance and I think he turn this team into a more defensive minded roster.
I’m not huge on the idea. As good as Brown has been in the past, he never seems to leave without making a little mess first. This bobcats team, which took about five steps backwards, is about the cleanest exit he’s ever had.
Also, he’s 70 and extremely stubborn. His ways of coaching are often outtdated, and he has no interest in changing them. He is a short term fix – there’s no way he’ll coach much longer – who, at best, would have the nellie effect of one good year, return the dubs to where they were, and leave in some chaos.
I’m also just averse to firing a coach 28 games into his career. I know we don’t agree with a lot that he’s done, but come on, at least give the guy a year.

No!!!
The guy is poison.
Here’s the list of teams he’s coached in the NBA:
San Antonio Spurs,
Los Angeles Clippers,
Indiana Pacers,
Philadelphia 76ers (where he won the NBA coach of the year award),
Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, and
Charlotte Bobcats
You would think that if he was truly a great coach, he would have stuck at one of these places.
I would maybe see him brought in as an assistant coach to focus exclusively on defense; but I doubt he goes for that
We have raw, young talent but they need to be balanced out by a hard ass who won’t accept lackluster ball.

I thought we just fired an old guy who doesn't like to play rookies
supposedly a pretty good coach

Not going to happen
Larry Brown is a great coach. But by far his #1 priority is defense, followed by more defense. It’s gonna take years to teach Larry Brown defense to the core of Ellis/Curry/Lee. Do the fans have enough patience to see this team take a further step back before they go forwardf?
If he knows how to coach a pick and roll
I’m all for it. I’ll even take a monkey over Keith Smart.
first erroneous use of last nights shot:
Would a monkey have known to put Vlad in last night?
great coaching won the game last night…no one but Smart would have had Vlad in the game – pure genius, you see?

yes and no
joking by using this as an example of excellent coaching
not joking that no one but Smart would have had Vlad in there

on further thought
maybe this is a legit bonus point for Smart?
Vlad (in spite of his mandatory bone-head plays) was a big part of that victory last night. Little defense, a little shooting, some rebounding, effort…maybe this is exactly what Smart has seen in him all along?

I don’t know why you defend Vlad so much… He was completely horrible up until the last couple of games. He’s been decent recently to being good last game. It still doesn’t excuse him sucking early this season. If he keeps being good, then awesome. Though there’s no reason to think he’s gonna stay good.

id take brown ten years ago. but hes the same age as nelly. not really a long term solution. keep looking
I think we need to look at coaches who can be around for long term, not someone Don Nelson’s age with the exact opposite bball philosophy. Our team still has vestiges of Nelson’s small ball, and by the time we reconstruct our team to Larry Brown’s vision, he will be too old to coach the team we’ve built.
That, and I believe he has a reputation of breaking down team confidence and chemistry so they will all buy into his system. We’re looking at a half season of more losing plus young guys who have lost all their confidence through negativity and criticism.
nah
I’d rather give Coach Smart the rest of this season.
I was going to chime in with this comment too
Its not the direction the owners stated they want to go in, so I doubt it would ever happen.
But…
Why dont we get original and try a 2-head-coach scheme. Nellie on offense, and Brown on the defensive end.
by WestCoastWarrior on Dec 22, 2010 4:38 PM PST up reply actions
I was thinking that also...again it will never happen
My understanding is that Nellie and Larry Brown are really good friends and they are already paying Nelson anyway. Nellie could be the “offensive coordinator” and Brown could be the “defensive coordinator”.

JVG has everything we need. Hopefully we have what he needs ($$)

and if we can somehow get Mark Jackson as assistant
we won’t have to listen to both of them during the national TV games.

Paul Silas to be Bobcats interim coach, Y! Sports has learned.

It is amazing that he is also 70 year old
He looks better than Nelson tho. Nelson always look drunk.

Well he looked that way because he WAS always drunk.

He's so awful now
He’d be terrible with our young team and DW and Monta would likely drive him insane

This would be the best thing for the franchise and there is no way Lacob would do it.
Not that I’d want that anyways. I don’t want to watch grind-it-out ball. Hopefully Guber understands that a big part of the successful Warrior brand is run-n-gun. They’d better get Keith “Smart” or someone else to push the tempo or the Warriors will be no different than the other crappy teams in the league.

Agreed
Is there anyone on D’antoni or Gentry’s staff who is a possibly head coaching candidate?
When you look at our roster, you might as well play an up tempo running style anyway. It’s not like we have Duncan, Garnett and co. who can make us a dominant half court defensive team
I want Budenholzer
Popovich disciple, and now has the Spurs running…pure genius.

What "successful warrior brand" are you talking about?
How many playoff appearances has this “run-n-gun” brought in the last… say 20 years??
There’s nothing wrong with an up-tempo game. But you can’t win consistently if you don’t know how to play defense.
Re: What "successful warrior brand" are you talking about?
The one that fills up the arena and GSoM with almost zero basketball success. Which is very odd considering that the Goden State Warriors are a professional basketball team.

No, those teams aren't "crappy".
The Warriors are “crappy” and now they’re boring too.
