Keith Smart
On tonight's game:
"We didn’t have the necessary energy that we needed to play at a very high level tonight. So we’ll move on to the next game. You see the Hawks athleticism on television. They play at a high level, they’re battle tested, and they’ve gone through wars. I think not having enough size hurt us tonight. Nevertheless, we were in the game for long periods of time, but quick shots and turnovers cost us."

"Another thing that hurt us tonight was turnovers, and the time they happened. In addition one time we took five straight jump shots on five possessions, and we turned the ball over twice as well. The timing of the offensive rebounds and turnovers is what hurt us most."

On play of Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry and Dorell Wright:
"Some nights (Monta's) just not going to have it. Guarding bigger guys will take some of his energy on nights like this. But Dorell (Wright) played well. But Stephen Curry being out for a long time hurt him with his conditioning. It’s like pre-training camp all over again. They’ll get there, but I think we’ll be on a positive note by the end of the road trip."
Monta Ellis
On tonight's game:
"We made a few mistakes, but we were still in the game and had a chance to win. They hit a couple of shots at the end of the game. I wouldn’t contribute it to a lack of energy. They just made a few plays at the end of the game. Dorell played wonderful tonight and had a double-double. We just didn’t give him any help tonight. We have to have more of a team effort. Even when our shots don’t fall, we have to do the little things."
Dorell Wright
On his performance:
"It was important for me to pick up for those guys. I was hot. They kept going to me, and they kept finding me. The Hawks jump all over the place. Usually it’s one guy you have to worry about, but tonight we had to worry about several. We just came up short. That’s all."
Stephen Curry
On tonight's game:
"I tried to fight though my sickness and push the tempo. Coach did a good job managing my minutes so I would have enough left for the fourth quarter. Atlanta is really patient, and they forced us to make decisions and while we tried to force them to shoot some tough shots with the shot clock winding down, (Mike) Bibby made a couple of big ones for them."

Notes

- David Lee's elbow still "looks" bad, but "feels" better, almost no pain. He does not yet have full strength on the arm though.
- Stephen Curry was playing through flu-like symptoms. He said it might have set his conditioning status back a little bit.

I completely missed this game. :(

The boxscore tells me that Horford and Smith dominated while our best interior defender played 5 minutes, and our team allowed way too high of a FG% to have a chance on the road. My guess is that the game was pretty boring to watch as well, Atlanta games usually are.

No idea

why Brandan Wright even got minutes. Is Smart even serious about winning?

Why was Curry randomly taken out. Keep him in, let him get a rhythm offensively.

by Anonymous1337 on Dec 29, 2010 7:19 PM PST reply actions

Curry was playing sick and was running out of gas. He was taken out to avoid having to watch him pass out on the court.

But they did discuss it all game. I don’t think Smart is mad to bench Curry just for sake of it.

Why did Smart keep on yo-yoing curry?

Why did Carney play 0 minutes?

Why did B-Wright play any minutes against a team with this kind of interior? Especially at center…

Why did Law get 0 minutes?

Why don’t we have a new coach yet??

also

why do we keep starting Amundson? Should be pretty clear that Udoh along side Lee gives far better results.

At least let Amundson fight against the backups…he gets destroyed against starters.

As far as the coach

He does not play certain people enough while over-playting other people. We know he is trying to find units that click, but sometimes, it is better to not have this mental idea that certain players are better than they really are.

B Wright = BUST

Carney = Never could be considered a “has been” cuz he never was that good to begin with.

Amundsen = why the heck is he still on the roster when D-League players are better?

Udoh = from what I have seen, play him more with the 1st unit.

Reggie Williams = needs more minutes and needs to be way more aggressive

Monta – quit being stupid and choking when it counts

Curry = needs to play, play and play

D. Lee = over-rated and over-paid

Biedrins = Never gonna “pan out”

Damn, Wish GSW landed Amare……….No college player can even come close to AMARE, not even that LA Clipper kid….

by jlcdb70 on Dec 29, 2010 8:28 PM PST reply actions

We'll have to see what Larry Riley does about coach.

BWright = Could have had Joakim Noah. Could have had Joakim Noah. Could have had Joakim Noah…

Carney = What u get when u trade 2nd round picks for cash

Amundsen = Solid defensive backup @ C

Udoh = Needs to play more for conditioning and b/c he’s doing well

Reggie = Trade him and Bell to Chicago for Ronnie Brewer to help with perimeter ‘D’

Monta = Our best player who uses physical play to make up for low b-ball IQ

Curry = Needs to get back in shape

DLee = Does better without Biedrins

Biedrins = Trade bait for Dwight Howard in 2012

Amar’e = Never would have agreed to come to GS. Same with Melo. Same with any top tier FA until GSW make playoffs

Blake = I rather have DLee for the Warriors, but would rather have DLee and Blake more

How are people criticizing Lou?

He played probably his best game in a Warrior jersey (offensively atleast)

by tafkasam on Dec 29, 2010 8:49 PM PST reply actions

because those people didn't see the game

Lou was great today, D Wright is also great. Curry, so many stupid pass and turn over. However, I like having Curry on the court because he keeps finding D Wright with open three, and allows Lou score tons. I think Curry will do much better if he focus more on passing than shooting. AKA, be more like Nash. Once Curry pass enough, he will find more open shots for himself because D has to assume he is passing.

B Wright was doing okay too. We just don’t have the size when we don’t have Beans and Gaz.

by ILoveWarriorsGirls on Dec 29, 2010 9:10 PM PST up reply actions

I thought more Lee and Monta find Dorell than Curry. But eitherway, the team ball movement has been much improved last few games.

Didn’t realize but Warriors are actually 9th in NBA in total assists.

by tafkasam on Dec 29, 2010 9:50 PM PST up reply actions

Curry

Curry only had 3 turnovers and 12 assists. And since he’s returned from his injury, he’s had 10+ assists in each game he’s played. He definitely needs to cut down on turnovers, but so does everyone else on this team. All of our starters had multiple turnovers except Lou, who didn’t play that much.

by eternalGS on Dec 29, 2010 10:29 PM PST up reply actions

had some bad rotations tonight. He keep taking Curry out when he was having a good 1Q along with Amundson. Carney didn’t play, Udoh didn’t play enough, and Vlad was in too long

Sad but not surprised

I stopped watching in the 3rd quarter. The hawks are a pretty good team. Seemed like once they got the lead early, they just kept us at arms distance.
Really makes Charlotte a must win game though… This road trip sounds rough. I am braced in crash position and looking forward to a nice string of home games

I know Curry is passing but he needs to pass more

especially in pick and roll. Still seeing pick and roll and he takes the shot instead of passing. He needs to pass earlier in pick and roll. He always too late to pass and ends up a turnover or a difficult shot for himself.

Who really expected a win tonight?

The Hawks are a good team, and they showed that tonight. Their frontline had us beat right from the tip off, scoring at will, and stopping penetration on the other end. Udoh looked a little lost out there, so was pulled. Amundson did a commendable job and really should have gotten more minutes. B. Wright made an appearance, but had little impact on the game. Monta didn’t look good at all; his ankle seems to really be bothering him. We’re going to need him on this road trip so here’s hoping he gets better soon. I’ve been really impressed with D. Wright’s play over the last few games. It’s like he’s reading GSOM. I’ve almost forgotten about how much I want Iguodala on this team.

The reality is that most teams would lose in Atlanta when missing both their centers.

This was a winnable game, though. We just make too many mistakes.

Scoring inside

Alarming fact is that Smart does not have the idea of improving our scoring inside. It is nice to have our wonderful guards, but in the end basketball is about scoring inside. Brandan and Udoh are both very high draft picks. They are talented. But it should be at least some efforts to develop their inside scoring abilities. Instead even Lee tries to score more from outside. Throw away this Nelson’s playbook. Play basketball.

by Ambal on Dec 30, 2010 9:53 AM PST reply actions

Alarming fact is that Smart does not have the idea of improving our scoring inside.

What low post scorer do we have? Only David Lee and he’s NOT a back to basket player. Monta is probably our best post up player, which really says it all. We don’t have a post game.

Atleast with Lee in high post, we either open up lane for penetrators like Monta, Curry, Reggie or he can run the pick and roll and finish

by tafkasam on Dec 30, 2010 3:06 PM PST up reply actions

Udoh practically just got on the floor, give a rookie a little time to acclimate; for whatever reasons BWright isn’t able to take advantage of opportunites and may be starting to atrophy (a scary thought considering how damn skinny his is).

Ekpe for ROY

Ekpe would be a real contender for ROY at this point if it weren’t for last years injury of that cheater Blake Griffin. Yes, I said cheater: watch the games – I’ve never seen such a cheater in post 90’s NBA basketball. The fact that he gets away with it really pisses me off. Anyway…
