And people wondered why....
I said that Curry clearly had higher Basketball IQ than Anthony Randolph? Because the basketball IQ extends to more than just on the court… its a desire to learn and improve and show that you can absorb what you need to do.
It will be a great shame if we trade Randolph because he is too bonehead stupid not to realise that he ‘MUST’ be showing a dedication to learn and improve and be part of the team… He has fantastic RAW talent…. but as with many young men (I was the same at his age) you tend to think you know best…you have an arrogance that is apparent, like his rejection of assitance from one of our past greats…I forget who it was?
SOMEONE..clearly needs to become this kids personal mentor, agent, guardian, life coach…whatever you want to call it… and get his head in gear….otherwise he is out of here…
Hell…I would do it in a heartbeat…..and I guarantee that within a month….you would not recognise the kid by his attitude and general demeanor…but clearly, whoever IS meant to be working with him…simply is not getting through to him…

Really? Don’t recall anything like that. Could you please elaborate?
Closest thing I can think of is Biedrins not wanting to learn the under hand free throw from rick barry, which would’ve GREATLY improved his shots at the line, haha

Or he’s confusing Anthony Randolph with Andrew Bynum.

No it was either Nate or Al...or someone that offered him some advice/coaching..
and I think he said something along the lines of ‘thanks, but I will find my own way’ or something to that effect…..someone posted it here at the start of the season… I just cannot find it.

You really dont know much about Brits do you….
‘Jeeves’ is an upper class, skinny, toff, of priviledged background…me…. not so much! You could probably compare me better to a more sophisticated Vinny Jones! :-) THAT…might be a tad closer…
Oh and I dont think I will stoop low enough to state what my ‘posse’ calls you… ;-)

Funny guy… but seriously… I am a big enough fella to have some presence of my own and been in enough interesting scenarios around the world…not be affraid of his ‘posse’ as you call these kids…
But thats not the point…
The point is someone to show him (not his posse) how to look at things from a professional perspective and to show him just how easily if he does ‘X’ he is very likely to achieve ‘Y’… Is that going to be me…no…but do I think I could offer some guidance as to how he might change things…absolutely…whether he chooses to then do them, would be his choice..
But in reality you knew what I meant, but just wanted to make a typical Skeptic type of comment…well..good for you! ;-)

AR is all over the Walnut Creek club scene.
But I really don’t know if I believe he’d leave in the first Q to go to a club. Who gets to a club at 9PM?!?!
Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.
I told Randolph that Bill Russell would tell him to keep that ball in play and start the break.

Let those beyond discouragement throw the first bench at the kid, when you think about it who among us wouldn’t rather go to a club and get drunk than watch a typical warriors game this season? Even Curry-bury’s double, double, and 9/10th’s didn’t feel that good when I thought about the lost lotto balls.

Welcome to the Pit of Despair! Don't even think about trying to escape.
Did you notice
He was there last night during pregame introductions greeting his old teammates like Kamen, and all of a sudden, he wasn’t there on the bench to watch the game at all. What happened, did he leave midway into the 1st or something?

I think he left after the 1st
Not sure why, but at least he showed up.
It's sad to hear
that players are SURPRISED when injured teammates come to support them…for the first 12 minutes. Wow.
My icon is a testament to the Dubs ability to play defense.
I just don't think it's an issue...
I was listening to the show when the guy called in and he said that he had heard that another caller during the morning show had called in and said AR was supposedly at a club. First off the story is already into a 3rd of 4th recalling of it. The main question is the guy isn’t allowed to go out at all? I don’t think this has anything to do with his character or work ethic because the guy was an animal this off-season & in the gym with Morrow working on his game all summer. So much so that USA Basketball gave him an invite but all that is forgotten b/c the guys was seen out at a club? Plus I remember both calls (Nellie show and Original Call) and it wasn’t like AR was going crazy and pulling a PAC-Man at the club, the guy was just sitting at his table with his friends. Is that not allowed anymore?
Plus, as for supporting the team, I always see AR in the Corridor behind the Dubs bench along with Azabuike. So just because they aren’t on the bench doesn’t mean that they aren’t there in the building. But since we don’t see them we assume that they want nothing to do with the team…
I just think this organization has bigger problems and seeing AR out isn’t necessarily one of them. Or did we forget that many of these guys are in there early 20’s…
I think we pay these guys enough money that they should be able to take 3 hours out of every other day to sit and watch a basketball game.
by samuraaaaiiiiiii on Feb 11, 2010 1:33 PM PST up reply actions
I don’t think that’s a very fair way of putting it. Do you realize how much time and energy these guys do put into what they do? You make it sound like there’s not a whole lot of commitment involved….
by Missing Barry on Feb 11, 2010 1:36 PM PST up reply actions
Is that the case when they’re injured as well though? I figure they spend time rehabbing, but is there only a small difference between rehab time and normal practice/gym time?
by samuraaaaiiiiiii on Feb 11, 2010 3:13 PM PST up reply actions
Well, I was more commenting on how you phrased it – “they should be able to take 3 hours out of every other day to sit and watch a basketball game”. Just from their perspective, I think a lot of people wouldn’t think of it like that. It sounds like a small commitment the way you phrased it, but if I was a player, I’d probably think of it more along the lines of I’m putting thousands of hours into basketball and basketball related activities a year, I can’t do anything to help the team during those 3 hours….the commitment and time is already there (that’s how you make the NBA in the first place)….yeah, it’s not just as simple as just 3 hours every other day or so. They’re paid for a lot more than just that.
by Missing Barry on Feb 11, 2010 3:23 PM PST up reply actions
I dont agree with this...
I can’t do anything to help the team during those 3 hours….
Being part of the team, even when not playing is VERY helpful. Not only can he see how his playing collagues work without him on the floor, he can learn from others playing an NBA game… Most importantly he is supporting his teamates and cheering them on when he can… but then to be fair I dont remember Randolph ever cheering any of his teamates on….
Mr Randolph has a great deal to learn yet! as do all young men that think they know it all….. eventually…the world kicks you in the backside and you realise that you have sooooo much to learn everyday.. and accepting advice and supporting others, actually bears more reward in the long term, than ploughing a lonely path to come to the same conclusion you could have found a lot quicker by simply listening…

I see what you mean, but it’s still 3 hours that they committed to when they signed their contracts…

And to be clear I don’t mind the rule they just made that they have to be there, I just don’t want to dismiss all the time they do put into it over a relatively small (in the sense of how much time it takes) event.

Maybe there wasn’t enough room on the bench…
And the nightclub incident is an issue because it was DURING a game. Now, he’s got a few things to learn going to nightclubs before 10PM, but that’s a separate issue. He shouldn’t be leaving the team to go sit in the corner at some random scene with his friends and NOT HAVE DRINKS (He’s still only 20 until the summer). He’s saying he’d rather be sitting around listening to music in the dark than watching his teammates do their job.
Trust me, learning english isn’t a waste of time. It is actually sort of useful.

Plus did anyone just get the feeling Nellie pulled that rule outta his arse?
From the way Nellie sounded it just seemed like he was making that rule up on the fly…Maybe it was just me but it didn’t seem like it was ever an issue before that caller.
So...
We are getting head over heels over a “A friend of a friend of a friend of mine said this…”
Has any reputable source actually reported on this? And some caller on KNBR doesn’t count.
So let me get this straight... Maggette is the healthy guy.
"Winning is not enough. All others must lose." - Larry Ellison
IT'S ALL NELLIE'S FAULT
The team doesn’t show up for a full game most nights, so why should any of the injured players be expected to? Nellie shouldn’t concern himself over what a 20 year old does after a game, but what the ones playing are doing during the game!
If AR shouldn’t be on his ankle, then shame on him! I’m sure he knows better than to risk resting that ankle or further injuring it by going to a club. If he doesn’t, then that’s on him! The only issue I may have is that AR wasn’t visibly present to show his support to the rest of the team! But who knows why he wasn’t there for the whole game. I sure don’t and I’m not going to sit here and make assumptions! I highly doubt he left the game early to go to the club, since the club wasn’t even open yet!
Hey Nellie…instead of growing white hairs over one of your players going clubbing, when you don’t have a policy on that, why don’t you worry about why we’ve been sucking so bad?! Thanks!
Geeez Louf*ckingweeez!!!
Whaat? I've seen Curry at Tres Gringos in San Jose
It’s just what teens do. It was funny because he said shhhhh because we all knew he wasn’t 21.
Curry IS 21
His birthday is listed as Mar 14, 1988, so he’s been 21 before he was even drafted, doubt you would’ve seen him at a club in san jose before the NBA draft…

I hope you're wrong.
He’s too talented to just let go for off court reasons. A lot of players in the league are hard headed. A large part of coaching in the NBA is being able to manage egos. Unfortunately, Nellie’s at a point in his career where he doesn’t want to do that anymore.

RANDOLPH: "I know. But sometimes, you gotta let ‘em know."

It’s not like this is something new, or something that’s confined to the younger guys, either… both Jack and Maggette skipped the vast majority of the games they were injured for last season. Frankly, this rule should’ve been put in place a while ago.
Golden State Worriers: Angst & Analysis
That's why it seems like Nellie pulled the rule outta his arse during the interview..
IMO…I just don’t see this as an issue…Let’s just focus on the “SUCK” that is the front office…
Did a little thinking about this
I think I understand why such a requirement for injured players isn’t in place before. If a player is injured, you want to let him recover in an environment that’s safe from reaggravating the injury. You don’t want to be responsible for causing the reinjury because you made the player do something or be somewhere.
So if a coach, team, or the NBA required players to be at the games, and if Stephen Jackson restubs his toe after his toe surgery, or if Raja Bell reinjures his wrist defending himself from a basketball flying his way, or if Yao Ming refractures his foot because he stepped on something in their arena, then the fans will blame the coach/team/NBA for forcing a player to be in the arena, instead of being at home protecting his toe/wrist/foot/etc.
Now, I don’t know if Nellie made this new policy solely on Randolph’s nightclub story. I’d like to hear the entire fan question and his answer before making that judgement. It’s possible that there have been other injured players who are shuttling themselves in and out of the arena during a game, which itself would be a distraction for the healthy players. And it’s possible that the Randolph nightclub story was the worst example of all, forcing Nellie into the new policy.
by IQofaWarrior on Feb 11, 2010 4:44 PM PST up reply actions
Many have not been with the team during their rehabilitations, including Raja Bell, who has been in Miami since his Dec. 3 wrist surgery. Bell is expected to rejoin the team Tuesday.
Does that mean?
It means he'll hang around the team.
He’s not ready to play yet.

I think this is a great rule
It was absolutely disgraceful last year when many players like Jackson and Ellis were absent on FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT of all nights. If I remember correctly, Crawford was one of the only veterans there to support the team – doing a classy thing that basically wrote him off by publicly saying that they would try to trade him if he didn’t opt out.
Being on the bench for your team serves lots of purposes, but the two that stand out for me are that 1) it boosts morale to see your teammates rooting for you, and 2) it lets the players look at the game from another angle, which leads to LEARNING more about the game. Even Maggette and Ellis, our top two scorers, have a bit to learn about the game (like court vision, defense, awareness, etc).

Typical Warriors
Inmates running the asylum b/c management is too busy trying to screw the fans and ownership too concerned about profit to worry about what the players are doing.
Here’s my question: If this is/has been a looming problem, why is it public? Doesn’t Nellie know if someone should be on the bench during game-time? Can he not speak to AR et al privately if there is an issue?
It’s just another example of a senile, old, confused man who should be playing poker and drinking scotch on the beach in Maui rather than trying to run an NBA team.
It’s just another example of a senile, old, confused man who should be playing poker and drinking scotch on the beach in Maui rather than trying to run an NBA team.
It’s more likely Nellie doesn’t care but had to say something to placate the peanut galley? If Nellie truly thought the players needed to be there they would have been told that a long time ago, he’s probably got it figured out by now that the walking wounded sitting on the bench doesn’t win or lose games? .Nellie was on record saying Iverson was right about his “practice” speech so he’s no fool when it comes to team and player dynamics. The club scene might do more for Rudolfs recovery than the oracle scene on game night, who’s to say what works best for someone they don’t really know?
