Warriors-Celtics rumor from Hoopsworld
"The rumor out of Dallas was that Boston has discussed a deal with Golden State that would send Ray Allen, Kendrick Perkins, and J.R. Giddens to the Warriors for Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins"
Interesting twist on the Ellis-for-Allen rumor. This certainly clears a lot of long term money and gives the team a better defensive presence than theyve had in a long time, but it still seems like its mostly just a huge salary dump. I dont like this deal much, but if theyre gonna go ahead with this kind of talent/salary dump I'd prefer they go ahead and include Maggette in the deal too.

I’d hate this trade UNLESS it meant we get Ellison as an owner. Otherwise, there will be no way we can sign a big name contract. Also, I’d much rather move Maggette as well, his contract hurts us long term more than anything.

I probably wouldn't mind one of these trades:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yj5qnah
(Ellis + Maggs for Allen)
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yk7uknx
(Andris + Maggs + Ammo for Allen)

Trading a younger version of Ray Allen for an older version of Ray Allen is out of the question.

Yes I agree
But if it meant getting rid of maggs contract and getting Ellison as our owner, I’m down.

First, Morrow isn't half the player that Ray was.
Second, Andris, Maggs, and Ammo for Allen is beyond sucky.
I’d like to think Andris is worth more than just an expiring. I’d expect maggs to at least be worth an expiring. Adding Ammo for a guy we won’t retain is another loser move the Warriors always make.

I told Randolph that Bill Russell would tell him to keep that ball in play and start the break.

Also
having Ellison as our owner, to me, would imply that we would have a fair chance at trying to attract a star during the off season (if he is our owner)…and we would have a better shot at winning the lotto, since Stern just picks them and Stern would love Ellison (winning the lotto would be his gift to Ellison)

Not gonna happen.
Riley said he wasn’t going to trade Ellis. Would he be lying to us?
Ellison will make changes
But the Bay won’t be a desirable place to come until we establish a WINNING culture. Lebron wouldn’t be coming to the Bay just because the 5th richest man in the World owns the dubs. Down the line, if Ellison buys the team , the right FO changes are made, and a long list of personnel changes are made, then, and only then, will the Warriors be an attractive team for Free Agents. The deal described in the post is OK considering that it gets us Perkins, a huge, physical C with shot blocking, rebounding, and offensive moves (an upgrade over Biedrins), but throwing in Ellis for expiring Ray Allen and JR Giddens (I don’t know anything about him besides he went to New Mexico and is a highflyer) seems like another dud move by the Warriors that won’t end well.

This would start the Curry era and finally kill the remnants of the great WE BELIEVE era. Personally, I think this is a great salary dump as a Curry Ellis backcourt is not ideal. Beans has also stopped growing as a player, and if anything, has regressed since last year. This would be a great rebuilding move, but honestly, for how many years are we going to be rebuilding? Kinda tired of being stuck in between a rock and a hard place.
Azubuike was part of that We Believe team, too.
He wasn’t a factor in that team, but if the Warriors really did get rid of everything part of the We Believe team then Azubuike would have to be gone as well (maybe even Nellie).
I agree with you that it would start the Curry era, maybe the Randolph one too (who knows, maybe even Brandan Wright!).
If the Warriors want to turn this team around, they might have to do a complete rebuilding process in order to begin a new winning culture. Luckily, trading guys like Ellis and Biedrins won’t mean that we have to completely start over. We can start a rebuilding process without completely sucking. We’re fortunate enough to have Stephen Curry to build with, along with Anthony Randolph and a lot of money to work with. Hopefully we end up with a great draft pick this season, and draft a future impact player.
We might also get new jerseys next season, which could be looked at as some type of representation of big change (winning wise, player wise) if you think about it.

This trade is only worth doing if they can switch Maggette instead of Biedrins and Morrow isn’t involved (the latest rumors have Morrow, Sheldon Williams & picks involved).
and in the offbeat chance Perkins dramatically helps their defense & Curry as a #1 option paired with Ray helps them win more games, this could be a disaster for them in terms of the lottery.
i thought so at 1st too, but from the Celtics point of view, this is basically an admission that KG has slowed down some (14.3 pts, 7.3 rebs, 2.7 assts, ts% 58.1%) and they’re starting the rebuild around Rondo while still remaining somewhat competitive. b/c if you really think about it, there is no way Monta matches up as well as Ray does vs Kobe, Joe Johnson & Vince – he probably does match up better with Delonte West.
and apparently, according to Chad Ford, they’re “desperate” to make a deal link
they could just give Perkins 28.6 mpg to Sheed (23.7), Big Baby (16.7), Sheldon Williams (12.7) & Scalabrine (9.8) more minutes. In the playoffs Sheed & KG’s (30.6) minutes will probably be around 40 in this scenario (though KG’s will probably be up there anyway).
still doubtful the Celtics bite (no matter how desperate they are), but what i’m saying is that that’s the only way the W’s should consider this deal (unless they are just dumping salary for a sale – but then there is no reason for Morrow to be involved – another side note: the W’s would be over the roster limit in these 2 scenarios).

Salary dump
In no way dies this help us as a team. It only helps Cohan’s wallet. Also I don’t see Boston doing it, there a tough defensive team and like having a bigger 2, and Perkins is a tougher defender than Biedrins. I see Cohan’s greed wanting this, but Boston is too smart to fall for this
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
ehh
Ray is getting old, and although I like Perkins, I believe we will be getting a big in the draft in either Favors or Cousins, so I dont know if this would be a good long term move. But then again, anything to get Ellison to buy the Warriors would probably be a good long term move.
Allen
He’s getting old, yes, but we’re only getting him for his expiring contract.

Care to elaborate as to why they wouldn't want
Instant offense in Maggette, far better than any SF on their team now, and a young up and coming PF in Hickson?

Hey, if we traded Maggette, Monta, Biedrins, for Tony Allen, Ray Allen, and Perkins, i think it is a plus for both teams. Monta gets back to playing with a great playmaking point guard in Rondo, and has the load taken off of him. They get a much needed rebounding presence in Biedrins, and a guy to shore up their bench in Maggette.
And we start anew with a team based around Curry, Morrow, Wright, Perk, Randolph, and Azubuike, with tons of cap space.
i’m all for it. We aren’t going anywhere, any way.
banned like chris andersen
Boston would like Maggs
But Monta and Rondo wouldn’t work. Yes Ellis gets his playmaker but there both slashers. Part of the reason Ellis and Baron was good cause Baron had a good jumper as well. There also a tough defensive team and Beans isn’t the tough guy they like. Perkins won’t go anywhere. Also they went after Kmart for Ray. They want a tall 2. “i’m all for it. We aren’t going anywhere any way” Worst attitude possible. Your basically bending over for the rest for the league. Your acting like you don’t want to win when you say stuff like that
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

No, and no.
It doesn’t matter if Rondo is a slasher, he gets guys the ball with easy chances at scoring the ball. Baron Davis isn’t a good shooter, i would think its fair to say he is a 25-30% 3 point shooter, and a 40% shooter from the field.

We aren’t winning right now, so why not start over with cap space, and 2 great defensive players in T Allen and Perkins, and get 30 million dollars off our hands per year for the next 4 years.
banned like chris andersen
Because that money will just die
It just goes to Cohan’s pocket, not a player. Allen is not a very good player and BD was a much better shooter with us then he is now. Part of Boston’s game is Rondo slashing then dishing out to Allen on the outside. Rondo and Ellis do not compliment each other or Boston’s game
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
Really? .413 with Warriors just slightly better then his career.
People tend to forget all the missed shots but remember the made ones.
But people respected it
They didn’t back off him, they were getting up in him. All I’m saying here is BD’s jumper had to be respected
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
Doesn't that go for most players
who can hit shots?
It just goes to Cohan’s pocket, not a player.
All this crap from people about Cohan being cheap and etc.
NO. He isn’t cheap. He’s just been incredibly shady and dumb.
This money probably will be spent. It probably can be better spent than 20 Million combined on Maggette and Monta for the next 4 years.
It isn’t cheap to replace Perkins with Biedrins’ because their production is similar on the boards and on offense, while Perk is one of the best low post defenders in the league. Then you look at their salaries, Perk gets 4.5 while Andris gets 9. Andris has a reasonable contract, but Perkins is one of the most valuable contracts in the league that is not on the rookie scale.
Tony Allen is a great perimeter defender, then you couple that Ray Allen-even with a career low in shooting- is still miles ahead of Monta in terms of efficiency, and he’s not incredibly far off from his volume(which shouldn’t matter).
So, Ray Allen is a better player than Monta is right now. Tony Allen is a much needed presence to our team, and that Perkins is REALLY GOOD and CHEAP, its not that bad of a trade talent wise. Then you add that we have all this cap space, its a great trade.
banned like chris andersen
I'm sorry
You just said the 35 year old Allen is better than the 24 year old Ellis on offense just cause he is more efficient * laughs so hard he pees himself*
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
Oh and...
Cohan is becoming cheaper. Reason being the IRS and his debts. He cut Claxtons 5.8 mill dollar deal for a contract expiring of a little more than 1 if I’m correct. Also who is the money going to be spent on? Outlaw? Who wants to come here? If we want to build a team we have to do it from the inside or 1 huge trade for a key guy. I’d love to trade for Perk but not with Monta involved. Trust me , the money is going to do what it always does with us. Just sit there
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
Baron NEVER had a good jumper at his best year he shot .439
and his career fg is .409 just terrible.
Curry is the future
let’s do it
