Game Thread #53: Warriors vs Kings - Who's rookie of the year?
This is the last time these two teams meet. This is the last time the 2 potential Rookie of the Years will face off against each other. Who's will win the Rookie of the Year? The debate rages on between these 2 NorCal teams.
The Warriors will play tonight without Monta Ellis, who was diagnosed with a mild knee sprain. So Stephen Curry and Corey Maggette will have to carry the team again. Anthony Morrow will have to continue to show his expanded "floor game". Both teams played last night, so fatigue is a factor for both sides.
All righty, let's do this!

Don't forget what happened last time
Warriors @ Kings, Warriors got frustrated because they feel they were getting hacked. Remember at the end of the game when Maggette got a T walking away from the refs and nobody on the Warriors even knew it. When the Kings stepped up to shoot the T, there’s a great camera shot of Curry looking completely surprised at the Kings shooting the T FT.

Maybe
not better, similar.
That’s one way of looking at it. Curry has edged him in steals, assists, field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage. It could be tied in rebounds now as well. Just wait for the final two months to play out.

Reke's rebounding has fallen off since Spencer grew a pair, but as for the rest of the stuff
since the new year, you are correct. Unfortunately for both, their personal success hasn’t translated to team success. Reke has yet to get more than 10 assists in a game, but if you watch our games then you would see why.
by VenomySnicket on Feb 17, 2010 10:04 PM PST up reply actions
Maybe because he doesn't pass even if his life depends on it?
I watched plenty of Kings games and I must say Evans as PG is hurting your team not helping.
then you haven't watched plenty of Kings games
simple as that. If his teammates would actually finish, he might average 7 apg a game. Right now he is at 5. He passes when he needs to, that is the beauty of it. You saw it tonight plenty of times. Reke would pass it to Jason Thompson, who would blow his first layup, get the O-board, then score. Happens I would say 87% of the time with Reke and the bigs.
by VenomySnicket on Feb 17, 2010 10:10 PM PST up reply actions
How so?
Curry’s been roughly equal in Ast/TO, a more efficient scorer, and better at forcing steals. And he’s won the last two head-to-heads. And he’s trending up sharply (esp. in passing) while Evans has kind of plateaued, Only area where Evans really has him beat is boards, and that’s not by a huge margin (4.9 to 4.1 per 36).
Right now it should be dead even, imo.

Evans IMO is the better impact player when the game is on the line.
I don’t know how many game winners Curry has, but Evans has 4, not including his game-winning steal on Gilbert Arenas, the official shoot-first point guard.

I’m probably wrong.

I was thinking of the most scored by an undrafted ROOKIE. I don’t know what the record is overall for an undrafted player.

by hellafornia on Feb 17, 2010 10:27 PM PST up reply actions
I was thinking the same thing too
However, it was also because that was his first start as an undrafted rookie.
I wonder what the record is for an undrafted player ever…

Wow. What a great game. That Mayo for Monta trade is looking better by the minute…..
And i’m disturbed to see all the Maggette hate all of the sudden. He has a dislocated finger, and a strained hammy, give him a break. He’s been our best player this season, lay off of him for 2 bad games.
Curry was great. CJ was amazing. Hunter was alive. Turiaf was hyphy. Morrow was the ‘new’ Monta, except really efficient. Ant-Tolliver was good, and George looked like a new man. Maggette, thanks for the effort, sit out a few games with the hammy and hand though. Monta, likewise, come back when you are healthy, because we are playing better without you for whatever reasons.
Nellie, it was nice to see you smile tonite. Just smile tommorow with a letter of resignation to Christopher Cohan and i’ll be smiling.
Thats my game recap.

Doesn’t he always have a strained hammy? That’s at least the 4th time since he’s been a Warrior.

Well, there’s some doubt.
There’s no question Curry has special passing, shooting, handles and court sense for such a young kid. But Evans’ ability to get to the rim when he feels like it is just as impressive…

One source with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com that McGrady will either end up with the Kings or the Knicks by the deadline to bring Martin to Houston after Sacramento refused trade interest in the high-scoring guard for weeks.

If Sac and Hou can pull Knicks into 3-team deal, Sergio Rodriguez + TMac would go to NY, a source says. Told Sac-Hou two-way deal not done.

Updated from Stein
If the deal cannot be expanded to include the Knicks, it remains to be seen whether Sacramento will simply buy out the remainder of McGrady’s $22.5 million expiring contract, setting McGrady up to sign as a free agent and be eligible for the playoffs as long as a buyout happens before March 1.

yeah he does
the guy played pretty well in the very little minutes he played. The Rockets didn’t want to mess with team chemistry, and Adelman doesn’t really like T-Mac anymore.
by duballers23 on Feb 17, 2010 10:30 PM PST up reply actions
Wait...
Kings can Landry too? Are you joking…
Kevin Martin is actually a really good player
I think it’s a fairly even trade
by Reverend_Randy on Feb 17, 2010 11:05 PM PST up reply actions
Kevin Martin is a tremendous scorer, no doubt, but his defense and efficiency just haven’t been there this season. On the other hand, Landry’s been a huge part to the Rockets’ success this season, though he could go outta his way to rebound a little more.
If I were to choose between a very productive big man who’s willing to come off the bench or a volume shooter/scorer, I’ll take the former.
Seriously
Landry has been a key reason why the Rockets are productive this season. Coming off the bench, playing 27 minutes, getting 16 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1 bpg, is pretty efficient. When he plays, he makes sure that he does something productive. I really liked this guy too, I mean at $3 mil a year is a very good bargain. K-Mart has not been good this season, and the Rockets are pretty loaded with 2’s and 3’s with Ariza, Battier, Budinger, etc..
Kevin Martin isn't really a volume scorer though
He’s more likely to return to his old form than continue at this pace, whether it’s this year or next year.
He’s a bad defensive player, but the Rockets obviously saw something in him.
by Reverend_Randy on Feb 18, 2010 12:01 AM PST up reply actions
Obviously they traded for him because he can consistently put points on the scoreboard, which happens to be the only thing the Rockets are missing this season. They’re already solid on the defensive end, so Morey apparently thought that adding a go-to scorer is the way to go. It’ll alleviate much of the scoring load from Aaron Brooks.
Also, it’d be good to note that Adelman might have pushed for the trade, considering he coached Martin for two seasons in Sacramento. We’ll see though if adding the scoring punch was worth giving up one of the best sixth men in the league.
Wasn't the story of the kings was that they played better than Kevin Martin was out with an injury?
Or was that someone else?
They are like 4-18 or something Martin arnt they?
So let me get this straight... Maggette is the healthy guy.
