Postgame Quotes from warriors.com recap

Don Nelson
On tonight's game:
"Well, how about that. That was about a lot of fun for those guys. The game was just one where we shared the ball, just played in the open court, and did it with a small lineup. I am very pleased with [our] performance."

On G C.J. Watson:
"He just had that rhythm. That happens sometimes when you just start making shots and the basket looks really big. We saw him do that before in Utah. We went up and beat Utah last year, and I think that he had [38] in that game. He can get on a roll and the guys found him when he was open and that helped. We ran him into a lot of screen-and-rolls as well and that was his open shot tonight which was a 17-18 foot jumper and he made them."

On the team's open looks:
"We got open looks because we pushed the tempo, all of the loose balls, and all of the long rebounds in the first three quarters. We got some lucky bounces in there too. I told the team at halftime 'Don't get too full of yourselves.' First of all, know that they were down to Chicago by thirty at halftime and won the game in Chicago. They are very capable of making shots and we didn't want to change the tempo. We wanted to keep going and not become conservative. I became conservative in the fourth quarter just because we wanted to do clock management, but we always wanted to run. We always wanted to take open shots on the break. We won every quarter, I think. I told the team that I wanted to win the last quarter and I think we did."
C.J. Watson
On scoring 40 points:
"I just try and go out there and play, and play aggressive. I knew Monta (Ellis) wasn't playing so I just knew I had to pick up the scoring load and just try and get some points in transition. Shots fell for me and we won so that's all I care about."

On getting his career-high
"I didn't think I was going tot get it actually, I sat on the bench and my legs got tired so I missed three shots in row, so I just tried to get to the basket and get a layup."

On getting hot:
"Middle of the first quarter I hit a couple of shots and drove to the basket and got a couple of 'And 1's'. I was making free throws and just felt my rhythm so I just kept going. I kept being aggressive and kept putting the pressure on them."
Stephen Curry
On C.J. Watson:
"He just started off firing and he got his looks. Looking at the rim like that, making every shot, barely hitting the rim, you give him the ball. And when guys start keying in on him in the second half he starts dishing the ball and getting assists. He was an all-around threat tonight. An outstanding performance tonight, one of the best I've seen this year."

My Notebook

- According to Matt Steinmetz in his chat, it was Riley who created the rule that required the injured players to be on the bench, not Nellie.
- According to the AP recap, Monta is expected to be out another week, said Don Nelson. Also, Maggette did not play in the 2nd half because of a stiff left hamstring.

What's next?

- The Warriors practice tomorrow (Thursday), then host the Jazz on Friday at 7:30pm.
- The trade deadline is tomorrow at noon. Keep your eyes peeled on those trade stories!
- Thursday will bring another episode of the Don Nelson show with Ralph and Tom, as well as another episode of the Warriors Weekly Radio Show at 9pm.

But CJ Watson was DISGUSTING this game. Absolutely disgusting.

I am confused..

Is this the new ‘Yoof’ speak for really really good? I.e. even better than ‘sick’? I am sure it wont be long before we have: “He just puked all over him”…and “That was a rancid display..”

…soooo confused… why do we have to bastardise the english language! :-)

Everytime I start really hating CJ again

He comes up big. And this time, it was HUGE. Good work!
He still hasn’t completely won me over yet though. He needs to be consistent, so I’ll go for Curry. I didn’t get a chance to watch the game (dammit) but I’ll base it on numbers. Curry for outplaying Evans with efficiency and a better double-double.

by lameallenmark on Feb 18, 2010 12:11 AM PST reply actions

+1

There’s something about CJ’s game that irritates me. It’s probably his indecisiveness and inconsistancy. Or maybe it’s his lackadaisical face. He played awesome last night though. And is it me or does this team seem more energetic without Monta? I’m not saying they’re better without him but they seem to have more chemistry when he’s out.

also that curry is not even close

well when he wins his second straight rookie of the month award then i wonder how much further back they will think he is. Also are stats are inflated according to them. Even though you can say the reverse to a slow team that there points per game are low because they walk up all the time.

my favorite

is the baseline shot of hunter’s putback, where you can see turiaf in the background come flying off the bench. i couldn’t stand him when he was with the lakers, but man i love that guy.

by savagebenx2 on Feb 18, 2010 9:52 AM PST up reply actions

who gets the last laugh?

So while we “rejoice” in the last two blowouts of our fellow bottom feeders, the Clippers and Sacto, both teams have actively cleared millions of free agent dollar space for next year leading up to the trading deadline. Next year we will be getting our asses kicked by the likes of the Clipps and Sacto while we retain mostly mediocre talent and D Leaguers and aantique coach who is beyond redemption. The slippery slope has gotten much steeper.

Went to game last night...

Some in person thoughts:

-Tyreke is a better PG than i thought. He gets his teammates very involved. He did turn it over a bit last night though.
-Speaking of point guards, Curry definitely commands the way a PG should.
-Donte Greene + Omri Caspi= what we desperately need @ the 3 position
-Watching Hawes beat up Andris was the official sign, we need a better center
-KMart may be one of the most effortless scorers in NBA
-Kings bench more or less sucks
-On that note, Andris has definitely been fake tanning. He was orange
-I’m officially gonna trade Maggette for anything on my fantasy team
-Morrow’s game has really expanded. I love how hard he plays, and he looks to involve his teammates more than our ‘playmaker’ monta
-Great seeing Monta, Buike, AR and Bwright on the bench. Only Monta wore suit pants, the rest in jeans. BTW, whoever dresses Monta, needs to be fired.

-Oracle was half emtpy. SELL THE TEAM COHAN. If warriors are even a .500 team it’s packed nightly. So sad

Some in person thoughts:

Why did the Kings self destruct? They played Boston to IIRC a 3 point game the night before? After the first quarter it looked like they just stopped trying??

Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Feb 18, 2010 9:29 AM PST up reply actions

i didn't think they looked like they stopped trying as much as second unit was AWFUL

they did look a little tired BUT, Thompson, Nocioni and co shot them ut of it in second quarter

by tafkasam on Feb 18, 2010 9:41 AM PST up reply actions

They shouldn’t have been any more tired than we were, both teams played the night before. I said they looked like they stopped trying cause they seemed to abandon their game plan and just started shooting random shots? Why didn’t they attack the rim more and try to draw fouls? They played a pretty good first quarter then seemed to lose interest? They got an early foul on Curr-bury then just let him off the hook? They took too many early bad shots or shots that got blocked instead of working on getting good shots or getting our bigs to foul? It just seemed like a weird way for them to play?

Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Feb 18, 2010 9:58 AM PST up reply actions

Maybe the Martin trade had something to do with it? Obviously someone told the Kings not to play him much in the 2nd half.

So let me get this straight... Maggette is the healthy guy.

I don’t think we need or would want Donte Green or Omri Caspi. They seem like roster fill-ins to me. On Andris, it bugs me that he’s working on getting a tan and I can’t help but think that instead he should be working on his free throws. If he can shoot the free throw get the tan, I don’t care if he comes out blue. Practice the free throws dude.

I don’t think we need or would want Donte Green or Omri Caspi.

Love Omri. Shoots 40% from 3pt range and gets 6.5 rebs per 36 from SF. Plays hard. He is aggressive and active player. Seems like kind of guy who will only improve. 12.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg on .559 TS% is not bad for a rookie in a foreign country. Not bad at all….

Greene is a really good defender for how raw he is. He frustrated maggette to death. He hits 3’s near same rate as Omri

I recall him being interviewed before the Clippers game

And the interviewer asked Biedrins what his all star weekend plans were. He said that his brother was in town and that they’d be headed to Mexico for two or three days. Maybe that tan isn’t exactly fake, but he got it over the weekend?

I think Maggete

is the one we need to get rid off. But the organization hate him so much no one wants to take him. Even Cavalier takes Jamison over Maggs. Poor Maggete only Warriors can sign him ridiculous contract.

Well, they already have the SF spot quite taken care of with that #23 guy. I would have taken Jamison > Maggette as well

So let me get this straight... Maggette is the healthy guy.

I would have taken Jamison > Maggette as well

Agreed. It was already established that Maggette was their plan B if they couldn’t land a PF (amare, jamison, or murphy), and since they did, they didn’t need maggette at all anymore. Anyways, I’m happy for Cavs and for Jamison. They’ve got a really really good chance of winning it all this year. Jamison deserves it, after all those years he gave to the Warriors and has always been the consummate professional.

on the flip side

there front court rotation of hickson/varaja… shaq/Z has been working REALLLY well…. now jamison throws it out of wack. MAggs could have just been an energy, scorer they need to rest lebron

BTW

CJ Watson was getting Kobe treatment with those fouls…Most of them weren’t fouls or were barely fouls…

Monta gets hacked or pushed and doesn’t get called usually…wish Monta could get calls like CJ did tonight.
