Postgame Quotes from warriors.com recap

Don Nelson
On tonight's game:
"The force was with us tonight which was great to see. We had such a poor third quarter, and got a chance to have a great fourth quarter. It was great to see Monta [Ellis] come back and compete. He guarded their best player, basically, one-on-one. He got a steal for us, made free throws, and was a big factor down the stretch. It was one of those games where we pulled all of the right strings, made shots, and the force was with us. We were a little lucky too, but we'll take it."

On the team's fourth-quarter adjustments:
"There were a couple of things. We rested Monta and got some life in the open court there, went with two centers at the same time to try to get us an edge on the rebounding. We tried to play with three smalls and two bigs, I thought that worked. I thought that Chris Hunter had his best game as a pro. He's had some pretty good ones for us, it's just that he hasn't had the opportunity to play that much, but if anybody was a big factor in the game he certainly was. I was really proud of him. He had a couple of big blocks and scored, made his free throws. He made one that really counted."

On Monta Ellis & Stephen Curry:
"They had 58 [points] between them. I thought that was good. It didn't seem as if we played with much energy in the third period for some reason. I don't know why, I wasn't very happy with the energy level, but we certainly picked it up in the fourth."
Chris Hunter
On his performance:
"Good to be here, good to able to contribute and come in and help this team win. Worked hard along time to try and get this opportunity and I just want to make the most of it."

"I feel like it was good step for me. I got my feet wet early in the season playing some minutes and I got a chance to sit back and watch and be able to learn more so hopefully I can continue to build on this and continue to bring that energy and help this team win some games."

On playing with Andris Biedrins:
"I think it was good. We protected the basket better than we did in the first three quarters and rebounded the ball better, I think that's definitely what we wanted to do is protect the basket and help the smalls out because they have big guards posting up and we were able to get rebounds, run, leak out and get some fast-break buckets."
Monta Ellis
On the fourth quarter:
"We started running, got stops, made baskets. Picked up the energy and our defense and got rebounds and go out and ran. "

On rest helping him finish games:
"It helps a lot. Coach called me and I was ready, and I went out there and did whatever I needed to do to help us win."

On the team's comeback:
"It was great that they picked it up and got us back in the game, it was fun watching them do it."

On Andris Biedrins & Chris Hunter:
"They were a force. They were blocking shots, getting rebounds every which way, making shots, did everything. At the end Coach (Nelson) went big and we were successful with it. Two guys did whatever it took to rebound or block a shot or help another teammate out and they were running as well."
Stephen Curry
On the comeback:
"We just stayed hungry, stayed active. We never think we're out of it, the last couple of games we have been in the same scenario clawed our way back , but just haven't able to finish it. It feels real good to get over that hump and get a huge win."

Yeah i was at the game… everyone was going crazy in the stands and on the bench when we went on that run…except him… he looked, angry and jealous. He didn’t get up once, while Wright, Vlad, Bell, Tolliver, and George were going crazy!

He was probably thinking about the damage to our lotto balls and that Crawford was getting back at us in the best way possible?

Monta is a HOF type of a guard.

He was probably mad that he was having a subpar game. Not everyone born a cheerleader like Turiaf ( or George W ), Monta seems to get down on himself and is not very vocal overall so the statement “he looked jealous” should be considered speculation at best or straight trolling in my book.
In fact if anyone is jealous and angry its MDB who is mad that Monta came back into the game, got 2 key steals and secured us a win. Its ok though, once Warriors trade away Curry to Lakers MDB will go back to being Laker fan just like the rest of them.

It was his body language that looked like he wasn't please, whether that was at himself or jealously is up for debate

But in the post game interview with Jaymee Sire, he DID say that he gave it up to the young guys for getting them back into the game and he went in to finish it, so it’s really a matter of how you interpret it.

What do you mean by HOF type?

Do you mean the attitude (bad) or the talent? I don’t know if I see either.

Dude, my name is montadaboss, obviously i wouldn’t make that if i didn’t like monta alot at some point. Im just fed up with his antics the past two years. I thought in early december we had a true talent on our hands, but ever since then hes been chucking and missing, and rarely passing to our “future” in Steph and Morrow.
Steph is turning into a great player. Morrow has really improved, and i want to see them in a lost season and not Ellis taking 25 shots a game and turning it over 5 times.

people read too much into his actions on the bench. He’s never been one to cheer a lot. For better or worse that’s always been his personality. Regardless of what was going through his head, he obviously kept his focus, and that’s what matters.

Stephen Curry has been playing a lot of minutes lately, just saying. I thought the game was pretty exciting. I wanted to turn off the TV right after the 3rd quarter, but I gave it a chance. When Monta went out, the Warriors were on a non stop run. Basket after basket, it just kept going in while Monta was resting (deserves a rest). Then Nellie put Monta back in and he finished up the game with nice defensive plays. This was a good game.

Few Notes:

- Hunter did well, got the minutes and was able to produce big time
- CJ was CJ again
- Curry took over the game when Monta went out, helping the Dubs climb from 18 down
- Biedrins was rebounding everything (and nice putback dunk)
- Monta finished up the game for us.

Overall, it was just a good game and a needed victory.

Its not that bad of an assumption but i think Blair has been the best with Curry, Evans, and Lawson following him.

Have you all not seen Darren Collison playing?

He is a lot more solid and playing more mature basketball than any of those mentioned. Sadly the hype machine has passed him by.

by farid on Feb 21, 2010 10:55 PM PST up reply actions

This might be a silly question, but do you think that the Hornets should maybe try and trade Paul and see what they can get for him? Collison has played amazingly over the last few weeks, and I may be jumping the gun, but the Hornets are in no position to contend for a championship, and they could get some really good young pieces for Paul. Not sure if I would do it, but just an interesting thought.

by duballers23 on Feb 21, 2010 11:00 PM PST up reply actions

That's really silly

Collison is an able back up/pretty good player, but he isn’t Chris Paul. If anything, they should move Collison for a talented wing.

by Reverend_Randy on Feb 22, 2010 12:10 AM PST up reply actions

they should move Collison

and see what they can get for him… they should be able to get at least a couple of picks

by shahbazi3 on Feb 22, 2010 8:49 PM PST up reply actions

He’s been doing a pretty good Chris Paul impression as of late. It’s just too bad that the media would rather talk about Jennings than Collison despite the latter being arguably the better player.

by WYK on Feb 21, 2010 11:00 PM PST up reply actions

Well, that’s mostly our fault for giving him that 55 point game.

by samuraaaaiiiiiii on Feb 22, 2010 12:31 AM PST up reply actions

Blair has been solid in the minutes that he has played, but I wouldn’t put him up with those guys yet. I think he’s capable of being near those guys, but he hasn’t proven that he can be a dominant player yet, besides his performance in the rookie-sophmore game.

I don’t think you can put a low minute guy like Blair in the same picture as Evans and Curry. Although he may be ‘better’ in those limited minutes, for a Rookie to be playing big minutes well I think is a much harder thing to do.

I was surprised how loud the crowd was on the CSN Broadcast compared to ESPN.
The game was great nonetheless. Let’s hope Nelli’e realizes we need a big frontcourt to win and defend consistently.

Some thoughts...

Steph…. Question was made of late by some that he could only step up and show the talent against weaker teams. Tonight he very confidently proved that when needed, the team can turn to him to really get things going. Superb effort by him in the 4th.

Hunter… Again, I know some have disagreed with my views on this guy, where they have said at 25 he is too old to develop much and that his past career to date has not showed much….HOWEVER, when I first saw him play the first couple of games for GSW, I saw a a natural BIG! The guy’s court positioning is absolutely superb…he truly understands the definition of defending the paint. Prior to him coming on to replace Andris…we were getting destroyed in the paint. Hunter came in and closed the lanes and suddenly the Atlanta Bigs had a different problem to contend with….Given time and greater coaching on rebounding, I truly believe that Hunter has all the hallmarks to becme an excellent back-up centre/combo forward. He can man mark any big in the league and he has a real nice touch around the offensive basket. He simply displays a good potential game, which with a couple of tweaks could be a very strong team member to have on the bench.

Now…. the gemstone move…. Don Nelson. I personally did not see this coming at all…but the move to bring on Andris WITH Hunter…was absolutely genius. It is clear that for all of Bierdrins rebounding capability…. he is absolutely HORRIBLE at defending the paint. So the old fox Nelson decides to try the same combo he has done with Turiaf, only this time with Hunter…. The result….. A Big that can properly defend the paint for once, combined with a man who rebounds almost as good as anyone…to give a protective defence around the basket that we were sorely lacking for most of the game….
Fair play to Nellie for this…. it was a real nice decision. I was wondering if for a moment he would throw Tolliver on at the 3…as I still was not sure about Curry, Ellis and CJ all being on the court at the same time… Maggette at the 3 with Hunter and Biedrins on court…COULD…be very interesting to watch develop…

Finally…Ellis…. Are we starting to finally see the shift in mindset from Monta Ellis? By a couple of his comments, I actually have hope that he has seen the light and now realises what his true role in this team might be and that is NOT as the leading PG. He came off the bench and delivered a professional and MATURE performance to help close the game and for that he deserves some credit. Am I still unsure as to whether this backcourt can work for the future…absolutely….but his play having been rested and MOST IMPORTANTLY his comments afterwards praising his team colleagues, shows me a glimmer of hope that Monta is beginning to learn what he is best at…

remember that it was Don Nelson who wanted to move Monta to the PG spot because Monta’s size was an issue for guarding 2’s.

Biggest reason why Monta cam in late and was great

He got 8 minutes of rest. He should not be playing more than 40 minutes a game and it clearly made a difference

Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

by dubzfan on Feb 22, 2010 5:19 PM PST up reply actions

Hmmm, was it really that clear? He still had that one possession he put up a horrible 3 point shot, and he is still aggressive on D as always, but he didn’t get called for a foul this time. He still has a tendency to gamble on both offense and defense. Yes I think Monta needs to defer more, and honestly I think he has been making the effort to do so these last few games. However, when Monta is out, the offense is without a doubt different.

So let me get this straight... Maggette is the healthy guy.
