Curry enters 3-pt Conest...wha??
I dont know if I should be excited or confused of why Curry replaced Danilo Gallinario or whatever in the 3-pt contest in the 2010 All Star Weekend in Dallas. I mean I could see if draining those 3's late in games, but I can not really see him making more than 3-4 in a row.
He has attempted 182 and made 78 of them which is a 42% rate.
The thing is he does not really have a clutch 3 pt rate yet and I wouldnt be 100% sure I will give him the ball for the last 3 pt in a game. I would definitely choose Morrow over Curry for that, Heck I would Ellis over him too.
But putting him next to people like Peja, Ray Allen, Dirk, or even Jason terry...Curry might make himself look like a fool! He is a heck of player and makes those 3's when you want them....but I dont really see the stroke that most contestants in previous contests in him yet....and dont get me wrong, its coming!

Disappointed they didn't choose Morrow.
Morrow deserves to go into 3 pt contest more than he deserves the rook/soph game. Can Curry give up his place for Morrow? I’m sure he even knows Morrow deserves it more than he does…
WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...
Curry
I’m sure he’s willing to give up his spot, but you know the NBA fans want him in this contest instead of Morrow for multiple reasons that I’m sure you know of. I do agree with you in that Morrow deserves it more, but I’m just glad we’re getting some recognition.

While I do agree that Morrow deserves to go and should be there..
Im just surprised that a Warrior was selected at all. I could see Steph in the rookie game and was surprised Morrow got selected for that game as well. I knew Monta would never get selected so I was content with that knowing there is no way the league will recognize a Warrior and put one of them in the 3 pt shoot out so I guess all in all you have to be excited about a Warrior in another event.
Curry isn't replacing Gallinari, he's joining them
and I am disappointed that Morrow wasn’t selected. I think Morrow should have been selected to make up for the non-invite from last season after being the #1 3pt percentage shooter. The only thing that would excuse the NBA from picking Morrow is if they didn’t know how long Morrow would be out when they made their selection.
Yet that does not stop them from picking other all star weekend attendees.

Well, you just crossed off the only excuse the NBA had then
This is what Morrow needs to do in the Rookie Sophomore game. Hit 3’s. Hit lots of them. Hit them in transition. Hit them from the corner. Hit them in defender’s faces. Score 15/15 from the 3 pt line and send a “How dare you snub me” message to the NBA.
Dude
Curry should give up his spot for Morrow!

I think so too
but that won’t happen. It would be a nice gesture from Curry to Morrow, but it would also be an “up yours” gesture to the NBA’s decision making. There’s no way Curry will risk that.

I would still give up my spot to Morrow, if I were Curry.
Just imagine if Curry gives up his spot for Morrow, and Morrow actually WINS the competition. That would actually make Curry look good, and it would make the league stupid for not putting Morrow in the competition in the first place.

Not really surprised
Matt Steinmeitz had called this out a long time ago. Curry has been consistently hitting 3’s. Morrow has been injured which was prob the reason Curry got selected over him. For those of you who think Curry should give up his spot, that’s just stupid….
It would make for a better story if a "no name" player like Morrow won the competition over the big name stars.

C'MON GUYS
How can the NBA snub a pretty boy rookie with a pedigree, whose stats are are unbelievable, can actually shoot 3’s, seems like a nice kid, and doesn’t have tattoos all over him???
NBA: Where marketing happens.
I'm saying it's good for a rookie...
I’m not saying 42% is good or bad for a vet,I’m basically saying 42% is good for a rookie.
I don’t know how to explain it.
by Cpt. Jack in the Box on Feb 4, 2010 9:27 PM PST up reply actions
In English, when someone says that something is “good for x” that person is usually excluding anything that isn’t x. It’s like whenever someone says “Yeah, my kid is a pretty good driver for a 16 year old” they are almost never saying that their kid is a good driver in general, just in comparison to other 16 year olds. It’s ridiculous to pretend you didn’t know this, especially given that you said it twice, once in response to “good for anyone” which doesn’t even exclude rookies.
That was a fun language lesson, now stop wasting our time with childish comments.

Ray Allen hasn’t hit 42% from 3 pt range since the ‘01-’02 season.
Terry hasn’t shot that well since the ‘06-’07 season.
Peja has only shot that well from long range for two years of his career.
Dirk has never shot 42% from 3 point range.
Thing A
also
Curry has attempted 2 fewer 3’s than Morrow did all of last season and made 8 fewer. This year he’s made 12 more 3s than Morrow while attempting 33 more. The difference doesnt seem all that significant, I find it hard to blame the NBA for going with the much more recognizable face and marketable name there.
Thing A
Agreed
Curry is obviously more popular and that’s a big reason why he was chosen over Morrow.

Good point.
But the All Star Festivities can turn nobodies into somebodies.
Back in 1989 I didn’t know who in the flying hail Kenny “the sky” Walker was when he won the dunk contest.
When Craig Hodges first won the 3 PT contest in 1990 I’m sure people were like, “Oh, I didn’t know Micheal Jordan had teammates”.
Yeah people won’t recognize Anthony Morrow’s face but it would give a chance to the Nation or the World to see just how good of a 3 PT shooter he is. I am not sure what the percentage of sports junkies play fantasy sports, but I’m sure 37000 people that do play fantasy basketball own Anthony Morrow and typically just check his stats on a daily basis.
This would give these people the opportunity to see how his good stats translate into his actual good shooting.
Just maybe those people will be like:
“Oh. Anthony Morrow. I have him on my Fantasy Basketball team! He really is good.”

Curry's somewhat of a household name in the NBA
He’s a bigger name than Morrow so obviously he’d make it.
I knew this would’ve happened but Morrow deserves it after last years snub.
Can you imagine
What if Anthony Morrow made it into the competition last year and won?
And then this year Stephen Curry is in the competition and wins.
That would be so awesome if the Warriors had back to back 3 point champions. haha.

Paul Pierce?@!#?
LOL Please don’t make me laugh. That would be the most comedic three point contest EVER
Prepare to laugh
Paul Pierce confirmed he will be in the NBA’s 3-point contest on All-Star Saturday. As opposed to his first very unsuccessful appearance in the event, Pierce says he will prepare for it this time.
Hmm
I just looked at his stats for the year, and he’s actually shooting it wayyyy better than his career from deep. I can’t believe he is 3rd in the league.

He’s also said publicly that he wants another shot because the last time he competed in it, he was thoroughly embarrassed. He only made 8 shots in the first round.

WHY?
Why should Curry give up his spot? He deserves it.
Morrow deserves a spot too, but that doesn’t mean Curry should give his up.
I’ll be surprised if Morrow plays in the Soph game at all. It’s more important to be named to the team squad know the player is injured. That’s for posterity.
The 3pt contest is for show and no need to name someone who’s physically unable to perform.
One is an honor – the other is casting.
That makes no sense
Morrow will play in the rookie challenge. They wouldn’t have picked a guy who wasn’t going to be able to play, or else they would have just kept Rose on the bench instead of replacing him.
Wow, Pierce may have even broke his foot
Who chooses who’s on it? If it’s Stern I hate him even more. Morrow is the defending 3 point champ and wanted REALLY bad. This is getting ridiculous. Can’t say it’s a surprise but it’s stupid
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
wait so is it 100% OFFICIALLY guaranteed
that morrow will NOT participate in the contest?

It's all business people
Steph is a nationwide star. He is what the NBA would call the perfect athlete. He is friends with the biggest stars in the NBA which include Chris Paul, Lebron James and Vince Carter just to name a few. He has the skills, the face, the NBA father, the personality, and whatever you want to praise of him to get more people to tune in. Stern is bringing in Morrow only to balance out the fact that every NBA scout / coach / GM / or hardcore fan knows that Morrow is way more proven and better than Steph. Oh well, were still lucky as an organization anyways to have these two compete during the all-star weekend. Now I got 10 bucks Monta is in the Horse Game =)
I really want Curry and Morrow to be our backcourt next year.
I admit I’m not a monta fan, but when curry and morrow are in they are dangerous shooters and they always look for each other since their good friends, so they always get each other good shots. I wonder how others feel about this backcourt? I know Steph can’t penetrate like monta, but he’s only going to get better.
I agree that Curry-A Mo backcourt is/can be a dangerous shooting backcourt.
But I also really like:
Monta-Maggette
Monta-Curry
For next year I think we could be just as dangerous with:
Curry-Azubuike
Monta-Azubuike
Monta-Morrow
There are enough minutes to share to create squads with these different backcourt combinations. I hope to see a lot of it next season.
You also said:
and they always look for each other since their good friends
Honestly, I think they don’t just look for each other. I think both their mentalities are to look for the open “Warriors” or create for other “Warriors”. I feel Steph Curry does a greater job in creating for others with high percentage shots.
I love Morrow but he is ridiculously too unselfish. He needs to be more aggressive in shooting the ball.

Who do you think the WARRIORS want in the contest?
Curry is the face of the team for years to come. Morrow is a great shooter, but he could be gone in the blink of an eye.
Dont forget how good a shooter Curry is with no defender in his face. He is a realy good shooter and will prove it All Star weekend as long as the pressure of the limelight does not get to him (so far we have no proof that it would)
Curry is the face of the team for years to come
Just as we thought Mitch Richmond’s face was part of a Warriors trio for years to come.
Just as we thought Chris Webber was going to be the face of the team for years to come.
Just as we thought Latrell Sprewell was going to be the face of the team for years to come.
Just as we thought Gilbert Arenas was going to be the face of the team for years to come.
Just as we thought Jason Richardson was going to be the face of the team for years to come.
We could argue all day about who is untouchable or who we absolutely want to stay. It just isn’t reality because it is out of the fans’ control.
Hence ANYBODY could be gone in the blink of an eye. Most likely for a player with lower value and no upside.

in my opinion
the 3 point percentage leader from the year before should automatically get a spot in the shootout, if they want it, kinda like the previous winner. That way they get some kind of reward from the year before if they want it. That of course would mean that morrow would’ve been guaranteed a place this year
contestants announced...no Morrow =(
http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/news/story?id=4890551
I’m so disappointed and sad now. The dude has been working towards making it, yet Curry makes it and is even shocked himself.
You guys think Kelenna Azubuike would have made it if he stayed healthy?
He was 2nd in the league in 3pt percentage last season until the very last game when he dropped a few spots. The only issue I have with him in a shootout is that his release is really slow.
Also, even though Morrow led the league in 3pt% last season, people still don’t really know about him. Remember the Milwaukee game when Jennings scored 55? The Warriors were down 3 in crunch time and Nellie drew up a play for Morrow to shoot a three pointer. I was watching the Milwaukee broadcast, and when Morrow attempted the three the Bucks announcers were happy!
It was weird, because they were talking about how shocked they were that Morrow was the guy who shot the ball, as if it was a sigh of relief for them. They said the Warriors had a bunch of great shooters on the floor that could have shot the ball instead, and that the Bucks were lucky that Morrow was the guy that the Warriors went to in the clutch. Corey Maggette was one of those players on the floor, the Bucks actually believed that Corey is a better shooter than Morrow.
