I can't say I saw this one coming either. It's probably a year too late though.

Actually think back to WE BELIEVE 2007. From the Dubs' perspective it was simply magical, but it all wouldn't have been possible if the Clippers didn't choke down the stretch. There really wasn't any excuse for that. You could argue that this was a few years too late.

Hey Atma, I’m curious why you think Dunleavy is so bad, when he has done a much better job than our “hall of fame” coach, Don Nelson. Just curious. Not saying Dunleavy is a good coach, but right now, i would take him over Nelson.

Because he is a worse coach...

Explain to me how he is better? His team is sub 500 with Baron/Butler/Camby/Gordon/Jordan/Kamen/Telfair/Thorton all healthy…

Statistically, Mike Dunleavy is an average player… among men.

I can't tell...

if this is bitterness we took him over amare, Caron Butler, Nene or even Boozer, Tayshaun, Gooden

or bitterness we got the 3 pick in 2002, when in 2003 w/ the 3 pick we could have had melo, wade or bosh

life is cruel

We have about as good of a roster as them, and they have had injury problems ( Griffin, Gordon, Camby, Kaman have all missed significant time), and they are only 6 games under .500 in the West. Pretty good job by him. Nellie not so much.

Uhhh

They have not have had even close to the injury problems we have had this season. Not even close.

Yes they have had worse injury problems than us. Maybe we have had more injuries, but they haven’t been to nearly as good of players.
Kaman and Camby > Biedrins
Griffin> Wright, Randolph
Gordon> Azubuike, Bell
Our injury problems haven’t taken our 3 “best” players off the court for more than a game or two ( Curry, Maggette, Monta).
You can easily say 4 of their top 5 players have missed good portions of time this season. Not to mention the clippers top 5 is better than ours
Camby, Griffin, Kaman, Baron, Gordon > Monta, Curry, Maggette, Randolph, Biedrins
our injury problems haven’t decimated us of talent, but mainly just depth.

This is about LeBron

There’s no way LeBron comes to a team playing Mike Dunleavy’s slow-down offense, where the best playing has been quitting on his coach since he signed his contract.

Now they start playing uptempo, exciting basketball, and become an appealing destination for Lebron. Maybe not as appealing as Chicago, but they have cap room, they have a top point guard (I’ll bet dollars to donut’s Baron is suddenly healthy for the rest of the year and his numbers improve in almost all categories). They have Blake Griffin coming in next year, plus this year’s first round pick. I think they’ll have the cap room to add LeBron and another major free agent.

Imagine adding Lebron and Bosh to Griffin, Baron, and Kaman. Potentially a very good team. Potentially the best team in the NBA by a mile.

And it has a zero % chance of happening with Dunleavy as coach.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Feb 4, 2010 10:25 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think that Chicago is where LeBron is going to end up ...

… but its either there or Clipperland. The media hype if Lebron and Kobe were in the same city would be unbelievable.

So I’d say maybe a 30% chance of it happening. It’d be 50% if the Clippers weren’t the Clippers.

It is now official

We have the worst coach in the NBA now that Dunleavy has been booted upstairs or whatever. We desperately need to win a few more games so Nelson can get his meaningless record and then can become a consultant and let Smart or someone else take over the team.

if our choices are Nellie and Smart

stay another 5 Nellie…. Smart seems like a super nice guy, but he has not shown 1 ounce of Nellie’s coaching prowless

by tafkasam on Feb 4, 2010 9:44 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think Keith Smart might do well with different personnel. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Smart is supposed to be a defensive specialist, and we don’t have the team for that.

I'd like to exert a quote...
“None of those [free-flowing] teams have ever gone past the first round [of the playoffs]”

Indeed Dunleavey. not the 2006-7 warriors, not the mavs under Nellie, not d’antoni’s suns… definitely not Magic’s showtime lakers.

Defense should always be a priority, but theres nothing wrong w/ a free flowing uptempo fast breaking offense. Particularly if it suits ur personnel best

by tafkasam on Feb 4, 2010 9:41 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I agree. About 15 years ago, every team was a fast paced team, the slowest teams would average around 105 ppg a game, good for 4th now.
You just have to play good defense. We don’t.
You need to have an efficient half-court offense. We don’t.
The Suns for about 3 or 4 years were pretty good defensively and they had some of the best half-court offensive plays. The 1-5 pick and roll with Nash and Amar’e was lethal.

the suns were 1 Robert Horry dirty shot away from winning it all

It makes me sad cause it would have changed the eve growing league bias you have to play mike brown basketball to win.

Like a team w/ Lebron couldn’t win running and gunning. God i wanna see that

Dude the Celtics layed really fast too. The lakers play in la and everything from la is automatically better. If im not mistaken the Celtics averaged above 115 ppg in all of their championship seasons in the 80’s.

Word. To think that Derek Fisher, one of the worst players in the NBA (much worse than CJ Watson, e.g.) is getting 27 minutes a game…

To think that Derek Fisher, one of the worst players in the NBA (much worse than CJ Watson, e.g.) is getting 27 minutes a game…

Cause he knows how to win, he’s got the rings to back up his 27 minutes while CJ just has a nice smile.

Derek Fisher does only two things.

Hit clutch 3’s and flop like no other. He helps the Lakers win because of that….hehe. I don’t know. Its hard to grade Fish, because he brings alot in the playoffs when it comes to clutch shots and flopping, but in the regular season when they don’t need him he doesn’t play well.
