Warriors Day Off Links: Don Nelson Show, Anthony Morrow injury update

It's a quiet off day in Warrior Land. Hop on in for the Don Nelson show, an Anthony Morrow injury update, and Matt Steinmetz's analysis of Stephen Curry in the 3 point shooting contest.

Star-divide

KNBR mp3s

- Don Nelson on garbage time subbing, keeping guys motivated, assessing an injured team, being a GM and a coach, Coby Karl's defining skill.
18:52: Don Nelson with Ralph and Tom

- Warriors Weekly Radio mp3s aren't up yet. When they're up, I'll include them in the next links post.

Videos

- It's good to see Anthony Morrow doing warm up exercises before the Mavericks game.

Anthony Morrow injury update.

- First it was supposed to be Thursday. Now it's going to be Friday when the 3 pt contest shooters are announced. How will Stephen Curry do in the contest?

Matt Steinmetz on Stephen Curry in the 3 pt contest.

My Notebook

- Anthony Tolliver was signed to his second 10-day contract on Jan 27. By my calculations, Friday Feb 5th is his 10th and final day, so we'll find out tomorrow if he's going back to the D League or if someone else is going to get waived.

Who does that?!!?? Who has time??!!??

Where’d you grow up punk!

How big are you?? (if taller than 5’10) Gary: Oh okay then. Proceed.

Don’t you know that Scott Speed sucks!!!

I also was crackin up when that one caller called him a “fool” but then Gary said it was okay just because it is part of the young demographic language.

There are a gazillion more that I can’t even think of right now.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, lots of teenagers think of themselves as failures. Things will start to turn around when you turn 14, just look at Mike Fox!

I give pressure the reach-around.

Oh ya. What happened to Mike Fox?

I wonder how he feels about Monta Ellis lately.

IQ, any news on Maggette if he feels 100%?

If Maggette’s hip complex isn’t bothering him?

Any updates on Anthony Randolph’s recovery?

I heard Kazubuike is partying in Miami this weekend. haha.

by ROMESdavidWOOD37 on Feb 5, 2010 10:20 AM PST reply actions

Nope

Found nothing about Maggette or Randolph. I assume Maggette’s slowly recovering while playing.

by IQofaWarrior on Feb 5, 2010 10:29 AM PST up reply actions

Oh okay thanks. Hope Maggette is feeling better.

If Morrow comes back on Saturday and Maggs is feeling 100%, I’d feel more confident about our team.

Warriors are 0-2 this season against OKC so I am sure they are hungry to take a win at home in front of their fans.

I like our squad of:

Monta – G
Curry – G
Morrow – SF
Maggette – PF
Biedrins/ Turiaf – C

against their team of:

Westbrook – PG
Sefolosha – SG
Durant – SF
Green – PF
Krstic\Collison – C

I would prefer Maggz at the 2 or 3, but he never complains and does a decent job at PF. Against OKC, I think he could bang inside with any of their front court.

Honestly Tolliver has been pissing me off. I wouldnt mind him taking 3PT shots or outside shots if he had a back-to-the-basket shot inside the paint that he could rely on more. I just dont get why 6’-7 or above players don’t have an inside post to their game, especially if they are trying to make a career in the NBA. I just dont get it. My gosh, those airballs he has been chucking up have seriously pissed me off. Put Chris Hunter in there! sheez.

At least Biedrins has glimpses of a post move. Yeah, it can’t be depended on yet but at least it exists and for now it can be utilized at times to mix up the Warriors offense a bit. If he continues to work on that little post move but add an unstoppable bank shot similar to what Tim Duncan posses, he will do just fine at the 5. I already like the baby hook he uses. I just feel he is going to get better because I know he constantly works on his game and I just wouldn’t want to trade this cat. As for his free throws? Eh forget it. When he steps up to the charity stripe, he should just bust a Carlton Banks shot and throw an airball to completely miss the backboard that goes directly to the fans resulting in an immediate souvenir.

Come back by Saturday Morrow. We need you man.

i don’t know if you realized this, but this kind of sounds like the Mark Cuban ‘Why don’t you have the 7’4" guy stand right next to the hoop thing. If they could do it and do it effectively, I’m sure they would.

If we saw D-League guys or guys in high school or lower division colleges, we’d probably be amazed at how good some of these guys are. Put these guys next to most NBA defenders and suddenly they can’t do some of the things that made them good against weaker competition. the length, athleticism & strength these defenders possess make it harder to get & hold position as well as allow for entry passes which results in those 1-3 ft bunny shots becoming 4-6 ft front rim clangers.

Not to excuse Tolliver (i don’t see any real necessity to keep him either), just saying you can’t assume that b/c a player is incapable of doing it well vs NBA players means he doesn’t work hard at it and would use it if he could. for some strange reason this reads like a guy would do her if he could, but i’m not smart enough to think of another way to say it.

Good points.

It’s just easy to observe while sitting on my lazy arse trying to be an expert.

I guess from watching Tim Duncan last night and LaMarcus Aldridge, they make it look so easy. Maybe I just wish we had players like that on our team or even a player that is half as good as they are that plays their guts out.

Anthony Tolliver

Time to let him go.

Can we get another D-Leaguer? Rod Benson? Is he still available? It would at least be a little more entertaining with a BoomTho following.

he’s hown some good, some bad. I personally think he’s better than Chris Hunter, but if i was mangement, is he enough better to pay hunter off???? eh i duno

by tafkasam on Feb 5, 2010 11:10 AM PST up reply actions

Thing is, if I were Cohan, I’d be seriously questioning the need to bring in D-Leaguers at all when you can throw in Chris Hunter/Vlad Rad or Devean George and get the same W-L results. If you really really think about it, it’s pretty much a waste of money.

by homer simpson on Feb 5, 2010 2:00 PM PST up reply actions

My only guesses as to why they keep moving back the 3-pt contestant announcement are they’re trying to figure out who to pick from Cleveland and how quickly Pierce will recover from injury.

That's kind of messed up

I mean, statistically they’re almost a wash from 3, but Morrow led the league last year so that should be the tie-breaker. Apparently the group-man-crush all old white men have on Curry was the tie-breaker.

I give pressure the reach-around.

by bloodsweatndonuts on Feb 5, 2010 1:14 PM PST up reply actions

NOt really a wash...

"Almost a wash"

Morrow 44.3% on 66 of 149

Curry 42.9 % on 78 of 182

That’s a 1.4% advantage for Morrow and Curry has 12 more makes.

Hence: “almost a wash”

I give pressure the reach-around.

Kings fan here

And you guys are getting screwed in the 3 point shootout. Morrow deserved to be in it. Curry’s good too, and I think what happened was that Stern didn’t want two teams to have representation in it, and since Curry was invited to the rookie challenge anyway, might as well let him into the 3 point shootout. Which is a joke, Morrow and Curry should have both gone.

by Aykis16 on Feb 5, 2010 1:14 PM PST reply actions

Morrow's consolation is playing in the Rookie/Soph game

I’m sure he’s much happier playing in that one… especially since he should have plenty of other chances to play in the 3 point shooting contest throughout his career.

Meanwhile, he’s playing in a game to which only 9 players from each draft year get invited. As an undrafted player, I’d be much more honored by being considered one of the nine best (healthy) players of my draft year. Also, given the “no defense” nature of the game, he should have plenty of “3 point competition” style open looks at the basket.

Trust me, learning english isn’t a waste of time. It is actually sort of useful.

He better sub in for Pierce

Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

by dubzfan on Feb 5, 2010 2:54 PM PST up reply actions

Yes he did

I still remember reading that he said he would have won it in last year’s contest. I would think he’s been wanting this since last year. Unless the Warrior Injury Curse makes its way into Paul Pierce, that will be 2 snubs in a row for a great 3 pt shooter. Thanks a lot, NBA.

by IQofaWarrior on Feb 5, 2010 3:00 PM PST up reply actions

He better sub in for Pierce

problem is Stern knows Morrow speaks to Jax and that makes him a bad boy in the NBA’s eyes. Stern wants “the man’s” vision of the world out there for the good folks to see .

Warriors Need Help

The Kings, Blazers, Thunder (and possibly the Clippers) will all be better next year than the Warriors because their organizations have a plan in mind. We need a team worthy to represent the great Bay Area! All I want for Christmas next year is a new owner.

by ipso facto on Feb 5, 2010 3:23 PM PST reply actions

Warriors Need Help with killing the curse and staying healthy.

Who knows if we’ll be better than those mentioned: Kings, Clippers, Thunder…Blazers. Maybe not better than the Thunder or Blazers but possibly just as good?

What if we had a healthy Roster of:

Monta/ Curry
Buike/Morrow/Maggette/Raja Bell
Wright/Randolph/Vladman
Biedrins/Turiaf

And I really want to draft DeMarcus Cousins if he falls in our laps.

I know a lot of people want John Wall (if we somehow get lucky) and I am a big fan of his, but I would be satisfied with our Guard roster especially if Raja Bell resigns with us.

Re: This draft is going to be great…lotta solid players

I need to watch college hoops more.

I want to watch more of this Favors cat that some people on here have been criticizing. I’ve been told he would be a great fit for the Dubs and could be an Amare type player. So those who have been drooling over the Amare trade in the offseason may want to check him out.
