#GSW keepingAnthony Tolliver. But it's not Chris Hunter and his $646K (pro-rated) salary that's going, but Speedy's $5.2M expiring contract

timkawakami
There goes a $5.2M expiring contract. RT @JaymeeSireCSN Warriors sign Anthony Tolliver for remainder of season, waive Speedy Claxton.

Real smart move by the warriors...they waive a 5.2M expiring contract (sarcasm)

Wow

Even when we do something right (keep Tolliver), we do something wrong (waive Claxton). This stupidity shouldn’t surprise anyone at all.

haha

What a bunch of front office idiots. Why the heck wouldn’t they waive George instead of waiving 5.2 million, which they could have used in a trade?

by duballers23 on Feb 6, 2010 1:09 PM PST up reply actions

because

George can “play” apparently.

by saint.dee on Feb 6, 2010 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

haha

the guy has missed almost every shot he has taken, and the sad thing is that he has been wide open for almost every one of them.

by duballers23 on Feb 6, 2010 1:14 PM PST up reply actions

The only explanation I can think of on waiving Speedy and not Chris Hunter is because Hunter is a healthy body. Otherwise, I would have thought they’d pay off Hunter’s little contract to keep Tolliver.

by IQofaWarrior on Feb 6, 2010 12:38 PM PST reply actions

Ridiculous

No need for a valuable trade chip in Warrior land. Another slap in the face from the Front Office.

by sjsnider on Feb 6, 2010 12:42 PM PST reply actions

Waite, don’t they still have to pay Speedy?

Great job

Gotta love willingly giving up one of the most valuable assets the Warriors had (Speedy’s expiring, largely covered by insurance).

It’s like trading Marco for D. George, except even dumber.

I thought this guy knew what he was doing but apparently now anymore. time for ellison to buy the team and get rid of the entire FO

by HopHurdles on Feb 6, 2010 2:36 PM PST up reply actions

Oh my god

what are the warriors doing?! Why not just waive Hunter?

by bustardvan on Feb 6, 2010 1:17 PM PST reply actions

Seeing Crawford play on espn last night makes it hurt even more.

Crawford for Law and Claxton = both no longer here.
Bellinelli for George = don’t need to say much.
Jackson for Radmanovic and Bell = Bell pretty much never did/will play for us and Rad is struggling big time.

And now this! What the hell. I don’t know what I’m gonna do when the Warriors trade Ellis for a couple chumps. Its inevitable.

by bustardvan on Feb 6, 2010 1:33 PM PST up reply actions

I am glad

we let Crawford go. He deserved better than us. He is a classy guy. We are a classless organization.

+111111

He was never really appreciated while he was here. People constantly hated on him, and he just let all the criticism roll off his back, and still has yet to badmouth the Warrior organization. He did about all he could do here. There’s only so much you can do on a losing team. Hope he gets 6th man of the year, bc he’s become like the Hawks version of Vinnie Johnson. Instant clutch offense.

I got it! Warriors

Are just an extension of NBDL in the league. This is where DLeague and low-level prospect guys get their first burn, and if they they show something compelling, they go play for a real team.

Riley is a horrible GM

No way Mullin would have been making these stupid moves. The team has gone from bad to worse from last year. The only good move that Riley has made was drafting Curry. He went from Crawford to d-leaguer, Belinelli to a wash up, and Jackson to a human brick. I couldn’t have imagined so many bad moves in such a little time period as GM. Crawford is now a shoe in for sixth man, and the Hawks practically stole him from them. Belinelli was a first rounder with a great stroke, and now the Warriors have George who can’t hit a 3 let alone a jumper to save his life. Jackson is now leading his team into the playoffs for the first time in their team history. The only way Riley can redeem himself is if he went out and traded for Iguodala (or some other non-free agent, non-risk star player) without having to give up Ellis/Curry/Randolph because he has already gotten rid of enough talent on this team.

by duballers23 on Feb 6, 2010 3:54 PM PST reply actions

Well

it depends on who you believe is running the team..

if you believe in Rowell is running the team then you cant blame mullin or riley

if you believe it is the GMs then you can also point out that Mulling signed
Maggs to a terrible overpaying contract
Traded JRich for BWright
Let Barnes and Pietrus walk for nothing
Wasted 10mil in trade exception
Traded our 1st round pick for Marcus Williams.

by saint.dee on Feb 6, 2010 4:15 PM PST up reply actions

True

It might just be Rowell and Cohan puppeteering all these cost cutting idiotic moves

The Maggs thing doesn’t look so bad anymore.
J-Rich for Wright wasn’t bad. Look at J-Rich right now. Hes Azubuike making 14 million a year.
Barnes and Pietrus didn’t want to resign unless they got ridiculous contracts.
Ownership wasn’t going to let him use exemption.
I do agree the Marcus Williams thing was a joke, but maybe if Nellie gave him a shot, we wouldn’t think of it so badly.

Euro Players Rock! Go Warriors!

by monta.da.boss on Feb 6, 2010 11:34 PM PST up reply actions

I think Marcus Williams should have gotten more of a shot than he did here. Although CJ is far beyond him in terms of offensive talent, he’s nowhere near Williams in terms of courtvision and passing ability (I’ll give him credit, he’s gotten better). As far as J-Rich goes, its always gonna be a somewhat touchy subject because of how much he loved being a Warrior. He was the one guy (other than Antawn Jamison) that wasn’t trying to find a way out. I think we could have done without the trade. Although it cleared up cap room, we did nothing positive with it. It’s a tragedy the We Believe team was destroyed within 2 years. If they hadn’t made the trade and spent the entire offseason and training camp together going into the 07-08 season, they would have won well over 50 games.

oh god.....

There’s no hope with this front office…really

by ARandolph on Feb 6, 2010 6:23 PM PST reply actions

NO TRADE COMING AT THE DEADLINE...OBVIOUSLY

They COULD have cut Devean George and his 1.5M salary, leaving the 5M salary available for a deadline deal trade.

Obviously, they’re going to just let their current expirings…expire….to get under the cap for next season.

This is not dropping salary as maneuvering for a better future, this is Cohan slum lording. He cannot possibly care whether this team improves or not.

Un-real.

I might have actually let tolliver go and take the chance that he doesn’t get picked up between now and the trade deadline. He’s ok, but not “wow” good. Then see if you can make a deal with the expirings and THEN sign Tolliver the rest of the season.

It’s a gamble, but now there’s no way to get anything of value at the trade deadline without trading Monta, Curry or Biedrins.
