The begining of the Bearded One.

Chris Mullin pulled off the first of his few good trades, as he weaseled Baron Davis out of the Hornets, high on fresh hopes of CP3 leading them to the promised land. I believe we sent the ghost of Dale Davis & Speedy Claxton. I remember thinking at the time that this was the best we had done in the draft since Gilbert “the gun” Arenas. Not because of that beast Ike Diogu, but because Chris Paul let us have a chance to take a injured and no longer needed BD off of New Orleans hands. Whatever the case, this trade as well as SJax/Harrington for Dunleavy/Murphy are the only reasons we sniffed the playoffs this decade.

Funny how im starting to see a similar situation develop in N.O. rite now, CP3 injured allstar, budding rookie Darren Collison. Only this time the youngster is from UCLA, not the other way round.

B. Diddy becomes a Warrior!

I remember February 24, 2005 like it was yesterday. I was working at a small accounting firm at the time and knew that the trade deadline was upon us. I had access to a computer at my workplace, so I was constantly checking ESPN.com, to see what trades would go down. I love the Warriors to death, but given their track record, I didn’t expect anything too big from them, trade wise. To my surprise, the Warriors completed one of the biggest heists in NBA history. I refresh the ESPN page and see the headline, "Warriors acquire Davis from the Hornets".

I honestly could not believe it! How could the Warriors get Baron Davis for Speedy Claxton and Dale Davis? Either way, B. Diddy was coming to town, and I was hopeful for my beloved Warriors. In my opinion, this is where WE BELIEVE all started.

The Warriors...

…pulled the trigger on the Baron Davis trade, sending Dale Davis and Speedy Claxton to the Hornets in return. Representing one of the few, early good moves of Mullin’s career, as well as the beginning of the best stretch of Davis’ career, it was a trade that felt much more significant than you would expect between two clubs that were, at the time, a dismal fifty-five games under .500.

This was also the day we got the only player who’s jersey I’ve ever owned. I still have that Davis #5 hanging up in my closet. Even right after he left, I’ve never been shy about wearing it, I think because I felt so lucky to have been at those Maverick playoff games in ‘07. Still the most exciting sporting event I’ve ever been to! No matter what negativity or despair I may have around the franchise now, ’07 still resonates to me as having meant enough to be worth the toil. Which shows just how much “belief” can be for a Warriors fan!

Christmas came early!

On the fateful day of the 24th of February in 2005, the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Hornets agreed to a trade that would certainly change the face of our favorite team. The Warriors sent Not-So-Speedy Claxton and Dull-Dale Davis to the Hornets, and in return, received an All-Star in Baron Boom Dizzle Davis.

The pre-bearded Davis most definitely brought a certain swagger that the team desperately needed. The Dubs finally had a legit player that could make things. He and J-Rich in the backcourt was something that was unstoppable baby. All the beautiful alley-oops brought nothing but excitement to us fans. We all believed something great was in store for the fans!

This is Kristin Kreuk, now zip it. - GTTM

We Lived and Believed

Twas the year 2005, I was a frosh in college attempting to build a successful future for myself – little did I know the Warriors did so too on a particular February day. Between the various reports of whom the 49ers will draft 1st overall in the draft and how spring training is underway, I was met with breaking news on the sports’ pages, "Baron Davis traded to Golden State". I reread it again in disbelief and processed my thoughts, "and they only gave up Speedy and Dale?"

Here he was, an All-Star point guard coming to the Bay Area to team up with J-Rich and the great Adonal to take the Warriors to the Promised Land – the NBA playoffs. At first I didn’t believe he can handle such a task, but flash forward to 2 years later in the confetti-filled Roarcle where hugs are exchanged between strangers…WE BELIEVED IT.

Win the inning.

Boomdizzle as we knew it...

Yes, it has happend. YES, as I was sitting on my computer chair waiting on trades that would happen, I looked at my warriors poster and was about to take it down… I also looked across the room at my Jason Richardson Mcfarlane figure and wished he had help beside him. Dale davis and Speedy Claxton to the hornets for Baroin Davis. I immediately almost cried. This was a new hope to this warriors team and I knew the Hornets would just be pissed. This marks the new dawn of Golden State Basketball and the most fun that they have had.

I thought the God had just sent a gift to this terrible franchise. I couldn’t believe it! staring at my computer screen and taking a pic of it and saving it to my old razor phone backround! The 07’ season might have been the most fun I’ve had ever since I can remember being a Warriors fan, this truly sets a lot of things apart in the History of this franchise…we actually made a move! lol

In an era long long ago....

It is a period of losing and dissent in Golden State. The star player is an three time slam dunk contest winner, our starting center is more known for his off court contributions, and we have two players we call the Dun-Murphy sisters.

However, there is a new hope. In a city far far away lives an all star point guard by the name of Baron Davis. This former two time all star will be soon traded to the golden state warriors for Dale Davis and Speedy Claxton. Under Don Nelson’s freedom, Baron Davis realized his true potential and lead the Golden State Warriors to their first playoff appearance in 12 years.

That day in 2005

did two very important things. It laid the foundation for the "We believe Era’, the most terrific period of Warriors basketball that this 22 year old Warriors fan has ever experienced! (I still watch videos of it on Youtube when I want to relive the best basketball I have ever seen!!!) And it also ruined our chanced of drafting B. Roy… Was it worth it? Probably. That day led to some orgasmically pleasurable experience for any Warriors fan, but I can’t help remember how Boom Dizzle’s immediate impact winning more games put us a few draft spots lower then we would have been otherwise. We would have had a draft slot which we could have drafted B Roy in, but we probably would have screwed that up anyway. So We believe!!!!!! Whoooooooo!!!!

Where were you when...

It’s funny, but this is one of those things I still remember so vividly. It was my wife’s birthday, and I had the day off. I read the news on RealGM and called her with “a great birthday surprise”. She may have been a little disappointed when I told her that it was the Warriors trading a bag of balls for Baron Davis, but that was probably lost on me at the time. When we went to dinner that night I must have brought it up like six times, which was probably about five times too many. I should have substituted a couple of those with a “did I mention how beautiful you look tonight?”

"I could be chasing an untamed ornithoid without cause."

Did I mention how funny I think it is that the whole “Baron’s first season” gets completely ignored in Warriors history and we just pretend like “We Believe” happened right away?
