Corey Maggette is great!?
As a scorer and teammate but an absolute horrible fit for the Warriors with Monta and Nellie here. Getting rid of him needs to be priority number 1 if we want to maximize the potential of our roster and become a playoff team. Even ahead of all the FO BS because we have a very nice mix of young players who want to win and play for eachother. I'm saying this because we can visibly see the lack of ball movement, poor shot selection, and negative score differential that goes on when he's playing and especially when he and Monta are in the game together. Not to mention his inability to hit 3's and not disrupt offensive flow. Even as efficient as he has been this year his inability/unwillingness to make the extra pass hinder the strengths of the rest of the guys on the floor with him.
We are full of able scorers and we do not need a go to big like most on here suggest if we are willing to play as a team and we have a healthy Randolph, Wright, Biedrins, and Turiaf who can be strong rebounders and shot blockers while getting their points on pick and rolls and offensive rebounds. Having Wrights current post game(i know we haven't been able to see it cause of injury) and Randolph's growing post game(slowly i know) give us enough post up presence considering a starting backcourt of Monta and Steph with a shooter like Buike, Morrow, or possibly Bell would be who we want taking the majority of shots while our bigs do the dirtty work and get lay ups and dunks.
Nellie's system isn't built for back to the basket players and to no suprise we dont have many. It's all about running, unselfish ball movement, getting/hitting more shots than your opponents, staying relatively even on the boards and winning the turnover battle. Obviously right now we suck on the boards but have been taking better care of the ball as of late. What I've noticed lately with Monta but not so much in Maggette is a willingness to partake in the ball movement aspect of the offense and be a bit more aggressive on D. As long as Monta continues that, a backcourt of him and Steph will work as possibly the most potent offensive backcourt in the NBA. Defensively as long as they keep an average of 2+ steals per game and give consistent effort they will be sufficient enough in helping us achieve more shots than our opponents which will be pivotal to our success.
We have 15 games left and it would not be shocking to see them go 7-8 the rest of the way but 3-12 would also not be shocking if Maggette continues to play heavy minutes with Monta without adjusting his game accordingly. Either way it will probably take a miracle to get someone to take on Maggette's contract but with this franchises fortunes over the last 2 years a miracle shouldn't be too much to ask for. Let me hear your guys views on Maggs and what you think about the Warriors recent play.
P.S. Getting Turner would also be a miracle!

P.S. getting Wall would too!
And spell Corey Maggette right, if he is going to be the main subject of this post.
Nellie needs to go! but while we suffer....John Wall or Evan Turner please!
Jesus, how did I do that.
How embarrassing, my bad.
Ya Wall is a stud too but Turner to me is a better fit with what we already have.

How big of a difference do you think there is between the two? That’s an important consideration.

well if you believe draft sites
1 will be a more athletic version of Gary Payton and the other is a hybrid Scottie Pippen/Brandon Roy mix. So I’m cool with either :) [/sarcasm]
As a warriors fan I’d be nice to pick #2 to not have to make the decision. But if you do pick #1, it’s almost impossible to go against Wall. Wall is perfect Nellie ball point guard by. He can drive by anyone and has great vision.
The 3 inches Turner has on Wall
are huge in my opinion. Especially when we have 2 6’3" guards already and we struggle on the boards as it is. Would you rather play Monta, Steph, and Turner with 2 bigs or Monta, Steph, and Wall with 2 bigs? I see Turner being able to excel as a 1, 2, or 3. While Wall would be a great point but still a couple years away from being effective off the ball. Plus I love having Curry run the show and don’t particularly want Wall coming in and taking the ball outta Stephs hands any more than Monta already does. Wall arguably has a bigger upside but Turner with his size addresses a bigger need for us than Wall.
I agree Turner addresses a bigger need for us, but the point is whether they’ll be comparable talents or Wall will be much better than Turner. We aren’t a good enough team to care about need. We need talent. If they’re pretty close in talent, sure, take the better fit, but if there’s a talent discrepency….well, ~20 win teams need as much talent as possible compared to need. We can always figure out what to do with Monta (or whoever else we decide to trade) later. So the question I’m asking is how comparable are Wall and Turner, do you think it’s enough to go with “need”, or do you see a real talent gap? If you see a real talent gap and still want Turner, I completely disagree. If you see an insignificant talent gap, sure, take the guy who fits our team better.

This is one thing I don’t agree with – playing off the ball is easy. Not a difficult transition at all – it’s much more difficult to do it the other way around where you have to create for teammates if you don’t regularly do that.

Having watched both alot and running the risk of getting ridiculed. I think Turner is the btter overall player.

Right now talent wise they are very close
as I said Wall may have a higher ceiling but it will take 2-3 seasons to reach and it may end up being that they are both Superstars and it won’t matter in the long run while Turner addresses a bigger need in the short term as well as long term.
Playing off the ball is an easy transition when you have a reliable J but Wall doesn’t have that yet and defenders will just sag off him until he proves he can hit it at a high clip taking away his strength of getting to the rim. I’m not saying Turners J is that much better but it is a little bit and honestly his size and rebounding ability are 2 attributes Wall cannot duplicate.
Agreed
When the Bulls drafted Derrick Rose instead of Michael Beasley, a lot thought Beasley should have went first because the Bulls needed a good PF (Tyrus Thomas sucks). But when they drafted Rose, a lot of people wondered why because they already had Hinrich. The point in an NBA draft is to draft the best player and I think John Wall is going to be better than Turner. Although, I don’t really mind if we get one of those two. Just as long as it’s Wall or Turner, I’d be satisfied.
Honestly, seeing as Beasley is a big man, and has produced better, i don’t think it is far fetched to see Beasley being the better player, and the better pick.
Nellie needs to go! but while we suffer....John Wall or Evan Turner please!
How so?
As far as production goes, Rose has done more. He’s more efficient and effective than Beasley. I’m not saying Beasley is bad, but he’s not as good as Rose. Beasley is just a scorer, nothing else really. His defense isn’t that great, and his rebounding is average. Randolph gets the same amount of rebounds as Beasley does while playing 8 minutes less per game.
Sorry, my mistake. They have both been busts.
Nellie needs to go! but while we suffer....John Wall or Evan Turner please!
Haha.
You’re an interesting dude, MDB…
There will be no extra point!

Yeah, i remembered Beasley shooting 40% from 3 last year so automatically assumed he was efficient….boy was i wrong.
And he’s like Vlad on the boards, except Beasley is so much more athletic, it raises a red flag…. i would still take him over Rose, but i would take AR, Love, even Mayo over those two.
Nellie needs to go! but while we suffer....John Wall or Evan Turner please!
Sorry to confuse you
but i really do like Maggette and feel he is a very good player but he’s much more suited for a team that is defensive minded and needs his scoring as a second option or sixth man. Simple as that.
Well if our team is healthy next season then he will be the 6th man with needed scoring off the bench.
Not sure what you meant by him as a better fit on a defense minded team ? My concern is that we should not dump him for nothing like we did Crawford. He does bring value off the bench untill we could really get a value trade for him(but not sure that is at all possible).

The thing about being a sixth man
is your usually counted on to produce in crunch time and by no means do i want him on the court with Ellis when the game is on the line. Whats the problem with going young and allowing them to grow together? Maggette is not needed here and should be used to get cap space and if we get someone useful in return than fine but it’s not necessary, he just needs to go.
Better fit on a defensive minded team(as in generally slower paced and short on scorers) like charlotte, boston, or san antonio who run their offense through their post players and don’t rely on the transition game to be effective.
Shot selection greatly affects the momentum of a game and Maggs has a nack for shooting a brick at a time when he should attack the hoop and attacking the hoop at times when we should slow the pace.
Oh snap
Just found out my girl got free tix to the game in L.A. on the 28th! I’ll be there reppin us strong! Give me some sign ideas!
Funny you ask
my girl sorta played me. She said it was against the Lakers then i check the schedule and see its the Clips. I got a orange Baron jersey and I plan on wearing it with “Cohan Sell” over Davis on the back.
I like Maggette.
I just don’t like it when Monta and him are on the floor together.

Maggette at the 3 is sensible
Maggette at the 4 becomes Bad Porn, Maggette at the 5 and he is the Tank Commander.
So let me get this straight... Maggette is the healthy guy.

D'oh
Left out the part mentioning Maggette and Monta can work (well, Curry still needs to be there I guess) when Magg is at the 3 playing no more than 25 minutes. If he’s not doing that you get the options I said above.
