Kev's Defensive Breakdown - Warriors at Grizzlies (March 20, 2010)
For background on this fanpost, please read the breakdown for Raptors at Warriors March 13, 2010)
******************
Defensive Breakdown
The team total came up -4, which looks a lot better than the -21 the team scored against the Spurs the night before. Obviously, the lack of frontcourt presence doomed the team – especially because of the presence of Zach Randolph.
C J Watson (+13)
Check out his activity:
· Steal from Marcus Williams (2nd -7:30)
· Flew at (contested) Michael Conley (7:00)
· Stripped Sam Young (3rd - 0:40)
· Deflection (:30)
· Contested (End of 3rd)
· Deflection (4th: 11:00)
· Contested Marcus Williams (8:30)
· Deflection (6:00)
· Deflection/Steal with Monta (4:10)
NO mistakes – that’s pretty good defensive production for twenty minutes of court time.
Anthony Tolliver (+3)
The defensive play of the game occurred with less than nine minutes to go in the game. Guard Marcus Williams has the ball for the Grizzlies on the break. Wingman Sam Young streaks to the basket on the right. Young is flanked by CJ Watson and Anthony Tolliver. Williams hits Young in stride between the two defenders. Tolliver trails behind him and goes up with Young as Young attempts the finger roll. Tolliver swats it out of bounds. The Warriors were down twenty two at the time. When you’re giving this kind of effort on the defensive end with the game over, then you know that you have a defensive mindset.
Monta Ellis (+3)
Anthony Morrow (+3)
Stephen Curry (zero)
Reggie Williams (-3)
Chris Hunter (-5)
Devean George (-6)
Corey Maggette (-12)
His Notes:
· Forced double team – rotation – Rudy Gay for three (1st – 11:40)
· Posted by Zach Randolph (11:00)
· Fouled O J Mayo (9:40)
· Post Defense - Randolph (9:00)
· Fouled O J Mayo (3:40)
· Post Defense - Randolph (3:00)
· Zone look – let Darrell Arthur score easily (2nd 9:00)
· Contest Arthur outside (8:10)
· Contested Zach Randolph (3rd 11:50)
· Gave up penetration – Rudy Gay layup (4th 7:00)
· Fouled Sam Young (6:30)
· Posted by Zach Randolph ( 3:50)
· Blown Box out – Sam Young Layup (4th 2:30)
Yes, he’s playing out of position at the four, but still . . .

I cannot believe you took the time to chart the Spurs loss
I would have tossed the chart into a river, and hurled the river into space.
I cannot believe you took the time to chart the Spurs loss
haha, guess it’s not really a loss unless the charts sez it is?
Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

JEEZZZ!!!
You hate on Monta Ellis so much! Your stat must be flawed because you rate him as a poor player!!! You suck!!!
;-)
A question: When you note “deflection/steal with Monta Ellis” do you give each player a point or half a point and what’s your rationale?
Trust me, learning english isn’t a waste of time. It is actually sort of useful.

This was so predictable
This is exactly why the Spurs wanted Magette…high production but don’t have to rely on his defense…Kev, if you’re reading this, think you can give up the overall defensive production for FA? I don’t know if you have any records or anything. Brandon Jennings is known more than Stephen for his defensive ability, yet Jennings, earlier in the year, said Curry was going to be “a great defensive player for years to come”… do you have his (+/-)’s?
