Jeremy Lin: A rare vote for an underdog Bay Area Asian-American (Cousy Award)
Jeremy Lin (previous posts: 1 2) needs your support once again! He is up for the Cousy Award and there's a component of the award that is based on online fan voting.
Please vote for him here, THEN DON'T FORGET TO TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO VOTE FOR HIM TOO, as voting ends in two days!...
http://cousyaward.com/vote.php
He is currently in third place. Please note, the winner of this online popular vote does NOT necessarily win the Cousy Award, but garners a small vote in the Committee selection process. However, I think quite simply this is an opportunity for Asian-Americans, underdogs (remember, Jeremy goes to Harvard, not exactly a big-name basketball school), and the Bay Area to be heard.
I actually believe John Wall is a better player than Jeremy (no surprise there) and should probably win the Cousy Award. However, I don't think Wall needs my vote, as the Committee should be smart enough to pick him, nor do I really feel like voting for anyone except Jeremy.
Another way to look at it is this. I've been around basketball for over a quarter century now and, while Asian-Americans are making progress in the sport, there are still zero Asian-Americans in the NBA. I'm not sure that another Asian-American or Ivy League -- i.e., school more well-known for academics -- point guard this good will come along and present an opportunity for us to vote again, at least not for another half-generation or generation. So take this potential once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support a rare breed!
NOTE: THERE ARE ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT TO VOTE! You can vote once per 24 hours.
Here are some other resources for ongoing Jeremy Lin information...

That disagree that this is worthy of a front page article? Golden State of Stalin here we come….
Seriously…….??? Jeremey Lin is actually not all that good. Thats not hating…thats not anti-asian… yet two of us, me and Uncle Cliffy first, posted why we questioned this as a GSOM front page article AGAIN, considering that GSOM is NOT an Asian basketball site, the majority o the users are not asian…and Lin has no link whatsoever to the Warriors…….and then suddenly our posts are deleted?
So just as a note to everyone…. only post below if you love Jeremy Lin and have not a bad word to say about him… but then again you wont get to read that as well either as it will be probably be deleted…

Posting low quality prose whining that a basketball topic of interest to a GSoM writer is not “worthy” of the GSoM front page is pointless spam.
Posting your analysis of why Lin is not NBA material or worth the hype (if that’s your take) is perfectly fine (e.g., Sleepy Freud’s comments on the topic).
There’s a difference. This is about quality control.

Wow really?
So you now read every comment that gets posted hear and decide its merit? I hardly think so as there are some really bad comments, responses and diatribes that go on around here on a daily biases.
Me thinks you may be cherry picking just a little?

Actually there’s a ton of folks doing just that that behind the scenes. The front page stories are obviously our priority. We do our best!

Huh?
There have been tons of low quality comments that aren’t removed around here. Removing a post due to criticism of why a post should or shouldn’t be on the front of site is not quality control, it’s dictating what opinion is heard and which are. It’s a fair argument, if it’s an interest of a writer thats fine but this post advertised voting for Lin which could have done just fine as a fanshot with a link. This is a Warriors site, not a Harvard site.
We all love the Warriors..
We all hate Cohan as an owner of this franchise…
No Atma...thats called doubled standards.
Quality control? Can we see the basis on which the ‘quality’ is decided? That way we might all be better versed in deciding what we are ‘allowed’ to say or not….you know very well there was nothing wrong with the ‘quality’ of what Cliff and I posted…
If you are going to apply rules to one….you need to apply them to all. Or maybe we are now becoming Golden State of Moderation? (But only if we dont agree with your comments)…
But then again…mods behaviour truly has become…. ‘UNSTOPPABLE’ when it comes to Jeremy Lin….

UncleCliffy posted a spammy and innapropriate “WTF?” and a “First” indicating he didn’t even read the article. Those types of comments are routinely hidden here to keep the comments section high quality.
If you have further questions or comments about what is expected for comments on GSoM, please feel free to do in in a FanShot. Otherwise you are littering PMC’s article with pointless comments.
Thank you.

There was a huge discussion on
“Terms of Service and Moderation on GSoM”
That none of you guys responded to.

Wow. I got quality controlled. Makes me LOL. I didn’t even think my comment was that edgy. Just honest and true. I am disappointed in the censorship gods.
BritWarrior, thanks for the backing. Agree 100%.
My pleasure mate....
Considering some of the ‘LACK’ of quality control of late, I had to back you on that one. The funny thing is…if I am not very much mistaken…. Poor Mans Commish is not even Asian? I could be wrong, but seem to remember he is not Asian? Which would make this even more bizarre!

Lin is far behind Wall, Collins, and Reynolds
Some of those others I’d put in front of him too. The question states:
Who should win the award?
Not, Who do you want to win the award?
My vote went to Wall. Harvard is likely not even to make it to the big dance. The best point guard in the country, is simply not Lin. This is coming from an Asian too, so don’t say I’m biased or prejudiced.

This post is meant for
Harvard State of Mind. I mean this is a dubs blog, and this kid has nothing to do with us, and frankly is not even in the running for the Cousy Award. C’mon Atma, this is a blog where opinions are written to be heard, not censored.
Living for a magical 8th seed run
This is a basketball blog. This is a basketball topic of real genuine interest to one of the writers of this site and of very broad interest (note the retweets and relatively high FB shares for an article on GSoM). This is not something that is up for debate.
Censorship does not happen on this blog. It never has.
This is not very complicated.
Thank you.

Golden State Of Mind - NBA + Golden State Warriors Blog
that is the headline for this site. One:Jeremy Lin is not a golden state warrior: Golden State Warriors Blog Two: Jeremy Lin will never be good enough in the NBA (if he makes it), to have a front page article about him :NBA How many times have you demoted a fanpost about the dubs to a fanshot? This is a fanshot, nothing more. I really respect you Atma, I love the rule about no profanity. I think it makes gsom much much more dignified compared to other blogs. When I o to Mccovey chronicles or silver and black pride I am disgusted at their languae choice/usage. But, this, in my opinion, is taking it too far.
Sincerely,

Censorship does not happen on this blog. It never has.
This is completely and totally inaccurate. I was very clearly ‘censored’ in this thread. And I never even saw BritWarrior’s post because it was removed.
Regardless of my sarcastic “first” and my “WTF?”, I made a very legitimate point. If Jeremy Lin was white or black, would we be talking about him? I think it is a very clear “No” so the only topic of conversation is his ethnicity or color of his skin. I have a problem with that. I do not believe that is “low quality.”
Judging by the posts in this thread, both Asians and non-Asians alike seem to have a problem with this emphasis on a player’s ethnicity/skin color. That is not what we come here to discuss. We come to discuss basketball. Censoring those who do not care for the content of this thread and its dominance on a Warriors website (and apparently there are a bunch) is extremely childish and decidedly un-American.
If so many posters seem to have a problem with this, then maybe there is a good reason for it. Claiming “this is me and my friends site so we’ll do what we wanna” is ridiculous and immature.
No...
This is the Golden State Warrior’s basketball blog.
It’s all good with posting unrelated Warriors news but I don’t think it deserves a spot on the front page.
Just my opinion.

Actually this is precisely why it’s annoying to see some people trying to censor PMC just because it doesn’t fit their programming expectations for this blog.

Seriously Atma...thats weak at best.
If IQ or any one else suddenly wanted to place an entry on our front page about Dwyane Wade and how we should vote for him as an All-star, in addition to 2 other articles on him…? are you seriously saying you would not find this a little odd on a Warriors blog?
Lin has no connection to this blog other than one persons, personal man crush, and dont give me ‘its a basketball topic’ nonsense….as we have not carried much in the way of Stanford or Cal basketball coverage on our front page other than Jeremy Lin….
Its favourtism and abuse of position to place this on the front page…. A fanpost/fanshot no problem…. but front page…ok maybe once…twice….stretching it a bit….3 times???? taking the proverbial horse urine….
Nobody seems to give a flying rats backside, about Jeremy Lin other than a handful of people…so no, I dont believe this is high quality….I think this is fanboyism at best.
So for a change…instead of thumbing your nose at people who add value to this blog that actually make it what it is….. why dont you take a moment to listen..as clearly the majority.. are fed up with Jeremy Lin promotion on the front page.

IQ is a valued writer on this site. If he was passionate about that topic, good for him. GSoM is his mic just like it’s mine to go crazy with The Lin Movement back in 2007.
Nobody seems to give a flying rats backside, about Jeremy Lin other than a handful of people
And you would be mistaken. Very mistaken. PMC’s posts about Lin consistently are the most widely read and distributed/ shared posts on GSoM the past year.
I think you and some others are a little confused. There wasn’t this magical Warriors site that popped up out of somewhere and we were ordered to write only about the Warriors. This is a blog my friends and I started that has grown over the years. We are not limited or required to cover what a supposed majority demands. Your failure to understand this is very puzzling and polluting the comments section of this post.
Again feel free to discuss this in a FanShot, but any further whining along the lines “I don’t want this topic on a Warriors blog” in the comment section of this article is just disrespectful to both PMC and getting off topic and will be hidden.
Again, this is not very complicated. Thank you.

Whats actually not very complicated...is the fact that...
There are next to no comments discussing PMC’s content…which should tell you all you need to know about your core readerships interest in Jeremy Lin. Yet many wishing to discuss why they feel they dont want to see anymore pieces on this kid (ON THE FRONT PAGE)..again whats wrong with a fanpost?..
Now feel free to delete away… But you will risk returning GSOM to what it once was, but deleting comments you simply disagree with, is juvenile.
I gave you more credit than that…maybe I was mistaken…

I agree with BritWarriorGSW
I’m pretty sure this guy’s only reason of having so much love for Jeremy Lin is because Lin’s Asian. Last post I remember from this guy was him comparing Jeremy Lin to Steve Nash. Come on. I know he’s Asian as well and is the “commissioner” of what was once an Asian Only basketball league, but that doesn’t give reason to show his love for Jeremy Lin on a Golden State Warriors page. Just saying.
Yes
I mean Harvard isn’t even gonna make the tourney (Cornell may).
Living for a magical 8th seed run
I am also asian by the way
so the both of us are not racist
Living for a magical 8th seed run
Strange.
I find it strange the selective process by which SOME people things are appropriate and inappropriate for the “front page” of GSOM. Why is it that anything Asian on the front page suddenly becomes an issue of “non-Golden State Warrior related.” More often that not we’re (or at least, I am) joking about “X Movement!” If you can’t see the sarcasm, then I think you’re taking this a little too seriously. But honestly, I find it a little strange that some of you feel so threatened by anything regarding an Asian person on the front page.
There are plenty of non-Golden State Warriors news that makes it to the front page, which I notice many of you just choose to ignore based on your non-comments. But honestly, what gives?
The same could be said for the criticism of Andris Biedrins. Why is critiquing Biedrins game considered non-front page worthy when it has everything to do with the Warriors? And it’s not as if it’s out of context; coaches and local writers are all critiquing his poor play. Former coach Doug Collins spoke about Biedrin’s disappointing play on the TNT broadcast.
It is just bizarre to me how “threatened” some GSoM readers are by certain things, which leads me to believe there are possibly reflective of some things people refuse to admit. In my opinion having a discussion about whether Jeremy Lin deserves this award and who possibly might be more deserving is a much more exciting discussion than whether or not this should be on the front page. The latter, honestly, just leads me to believe that people feel threatened by anything Asian….

Which flight of fantasy did you just create that from???
in case you had not noticed…MOST of the comments made are actually from Asian Americans..so what exactly are they ‘threatened’ by??? Stop trying to stir this into something its not…
I frankly could not care less that the kid is Asian… I dont think he is very good and he has nothing to do with the warriors… THAT is why I dont think its front page worthy for a third time..
And Atma…now if people disagree and they are airing their opinion…they are “polluting and whining??”… Again….coming from the Blog host….thats p!$$ poor! It’s a shame you dont apply the same rules that you do here to formal complaints or requests…
I think GSOM has its position in the market now…BECAUSE…the blog has good content, quality and posters…that focus on the Warriors.. if you wish to revert to being a couple fans that say…“this is our blog… and we will do what we like…” then it becomes just like every other blog out there…simply a glorified fanboy site…and that would be a great shame..

Why do people think this article is not worthy of a front page article? This blog is mostly about Warriors and anything related to basketball across the Bay Area. What’s wrong with rooting for the underdog in Jeremy Lin? He’s from the Bay Area. Besides, the article doesn’t take up that much space on your screen. All you have to do is scroll down a little.
