GameThread #62: Golden State Warriors @ Charlotte Bobcats- Dubs take on Michael Jordan's squad

Golden State Warriors at Charlotte Bobcats, Mar 6, 2010 4:00 PM PST

Curry_lecka_400_medium

See that up there? The ROOF IS ON FIRE!

Warriors (44-17) vs Bobcats (31-29)

Tip Off: 4pm PST

TV: CSN Bay Area | Radio: KNBR

Blog Buddy: Rufus on Fire

The Dubs are coming off a very scrappy performance in the ATL (see RECAP: Golden State Warriors 122, Atlanta Hawks 127- 100% Scrappy, 0% Crappy), but that's of course not what everyone is talking about today. It's the hot rumor of the day about what Nellie would have done "in a heartbeat" (see RUMOR: Golden State Warriors head coach Don Nelson would have traded Monta Ellis to Memphis Grizzlies for O.J. Mayo + Hasheem Thabeet "in a heartbeat").

But there's still a game to be played today! JUMP for a little preview madness.

Star-divide

We could go on about a certain unnamed former captain of the Warriors, but we won't. He didn't want to be here and honestly I can't say I really wanted him here with his immature and classless tantrums earlier this season, which has been documented here ad naseum.

So we'll move on and focus on Stephen Curry's homecoming. Check out Davidson fans support Stephen Curry in Golden State Warriors loss [Bay Area News Group]:

"It's going to be fun," Curry said. "Lot of family in town. Lot of Davidson fans are going to be there. My teammates from last year are going to be there. They're going to be loud, and it's going to be fun to play in that arena. I worked out there all summer, so it's going to feel like home. "... You'll know where the Curry section is, I promise you that."

2 things to note about the Bobcats:

Also don't miss out on David Arnott's preview over at Rufus on FIre. He's got some genuine Dub Luv and a deep GSW memory:

The Big Picture: It's never been a secret that I grew up in San Francisco. Thus, I was well aware of the exploits of Chris Mullin, Tim Hardaway, Latrell Sprewell, Chris Gatling, Troy Murphy, et al. I was at Candlestick Park for a Giants game when they showed the NBA Draft Lottery on the jumbotron and the crowd exploded upon seeing the Golden State Warriors get the third pick overall, which, at the time, was surely going to be either Jamal Mashburn, Isaiah Rider, or Anfernee Hardaway -- no way they'd get Webber. My best friend in middle school was obsessed with Felton Spencer. I was at AT&T Park for a Giants game shortly after Baron Davis was traded to the Warriors and witnessed the standing ovation he received when he was shown on the big screen. And I watched a bunch of their games down the stretch and every one of their playoff games during the We Believe run of 2006-07. All that's to say that the Warriors occupy a good amount of real estate in my heart because I grew up around them, but I'm not a fan. They had their chance and missed it. Blame Felton Spencer.

Predictions

  • Stephen gets a great hometown welcome and then proceeds to drop 20+ points and 8+ assists.
  • The "Captain" has a "high volume" shooting night and stinks up the joint. The league's leader in turnovers will be sitting this one out, but that doesn't mean a former Warrior won't step up in his absence today.
  • The GSW D-Leaguers show that they belong in the NBA... again.
  • Gerald Wallace throws it down nasty- much better than his weak dunk contest outing.
  • Warriors by 1

Jack was a good player with a variety of skills

but I was done with Jack before the season started. I feel like Curry’s going to have a bad game, partly because of the back-to-back, partly because he’s going to try to overperform in front of his family and friends.

Beyond that, let’s keep the oh-for streak alive with another loss! Last night, Pacers, Pistons, Kings, Knicks all lost, so they continue to nip at our heels.

Besides his attitude...

Jack was a great player to have.
I do wish he never requested a trade, and no,I’m not Jack.
