I want to stay here and play under Nellie. I like it. I just like the freedom to play ball. If you play hard for coach, he loves you. If you play hard, he has no problems ... He gives you freedom. He's really easy to play for.

Makes you wonder about some of the players who been rumored to be having issues with Coach Don Nelson recently. No names of course.

He’s easy to play for because he doesn’t require much of his players, especially on the defensive end.

Players who at varying degrees arrive in his doghouse have issues with Nellie because it seems inconsistent to flat-out bench players for “dogging it” when Nellie consistently dogs it as a coach by not thoroughly preparing his team.

I think I would get minutes over Anthony Randolph under Nellie.

"If you play hard, he has no problems"

“He’s really easy to play for.”

I’d have to disagree with both statements.

I think every player that has played for Nellie plays hard. They love his offensive freestyle of playing.

Anthony Morrow plays hard every game. He’s had his off games but he always plays his guts and soul out day in day out. So his “play hard” displays shouldn’t have resulted in him getting 2:24 minutes of playing time vs. Memphis at home recently.

The way Don Nelson treated Jamal Crawford as a Warrior last year was a problem. You don’t think Jamal Crawford was playing hard for Nellie? He really loved it here and wanted to stay. I’m really happy for Crawford’s success with the Hawks because he absolutely deserves it. Plus he was always a professional when that warrior drama went down and he seems like a great guy.

Al Harrington played hard for nellie and was trying to convince him that he was more than just a 3 point specialist. He wanted to prove to nellie he had more to his game but Nellie disagreed and didnt even want to hear it.

Mickael Pietrus played hard for Don Nelson but wanted him to be a PF. Of course in the beginning Pietrus wasnt going to complain because he just wanted to play. he knew he plays tough on the court and was willing to gut it out. But after awhile I’m sure Pietrus was like…“I could be a lot more successful playing the 2. A 6 foot 6 guard like me shouldn’t be playing the 4 and banging with 6’10 270 Power Forwards day in day out.”

Whatever. Thank you Nellie for the success you have brought us but you seriously serve no purpose for our future. Let us move on already. Just leave. Bye.

I also forgot to mention Rob Kurz.

Ya there are a lot of other players who I may have failed to mention, but Kurz is a perfect example that “If you play hard, he has no problems” and "He’s really easy to play for." is ABSOLUTELY FALSE.

December 13. Kurz scored 20 points. Grabbed 7 rebounds. 2 steals. 2 blocks. Shot 3-3 from 3pt land 100%. 3-4 from FT.

How the hell do you reward the guy with 0 playing minutes when we could have used his size vs. Dwight Howard.

Sure most likely he gets destroyed by D-Howard but so what. He deserved the play.

His hard work shouldn’t have caused a problem with Don Nelson. Right?

Sure. Reeeeeeeeeeeeal easy to play for.

Fob.

Correction:

is a perfect example that "If you play hard, he has no problems" and “He’s really easy to play for.” ARE absolutely false.

How the hell do you reward the guy with 0 playing minutes the next game when we could have used his size vs. Dwight Howard.

Rob Kurz?

You mean the undrafted guy who actually STARTED some games under Nellie? The same guy who seemed to be getting smaller as the season went on (Maybe 6’8, 215? tops?) to where I no longer considered him a ‘big’ and you wanted him to match up with Dwight Howard?

by breaker on Apr 7, 2010 12:06 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

Please read carefully:

I did say:

Sure most likely he gets destroyed by D-Howard but so what. He deserved the play.

I didn’t say he was the ABSOLUTE BEST MATCH UP against Howard. I felt we could have paired him up with Turiaf, AB or Randolph. My point was he deserved to play because of the effort he gave the previous game. Why would you reward someone who “played hard” one game and with 0 playing time the very next? That would cause a problem with me if I were Rob Kurz.

The thing is Dwight Howard didn’t even play that game so I was Moded Wrong there. It was Gortat that played in place of him. He did have 16 points. 13 rebounds and 3 blocks so pairing up Kurz that game with Turiaf, AB or AR or BW could have made a difference.

If I’m wrong. Oh well…I would like to have witnessed it and be moded.

They had Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis and Gortat going up against five guards under 6’5 on the floor at the same time. (sarcasm but not so much)

We had a healthy Brandan Wright (12: minutes played), a healthy Anthony Randolph (2:21 minutes played), a healthy Ronnie Turiaf (14:26 minutes played) and Rob Kurz ( ZERO minutes played). With those big healthy players, Nellie could have mixed up a squad to have a better competitive game but he decided to be hard headed and try to prove everyone that small ball always works.

Rob Kurz plays SF, PF, and C. It didn’t matter to him at the time if SF or PF was the best position for him. He seemed to be comfortable playing the 4 during our run here. Since he was new to the team and new to the NBA I’m sure he wouldn’t have mind to play PF against Howard or Gortat. Was even 5 minutes of play too much to ask from Nellie after the game he had vs. the Nuggets? I don’t think so.

Yank him outta there if he starts to upset you with mistakes or play that poorly. At least reward him for his good play from the previous game. It’s the neglected principle from Nellie of it all that irritated me, and I was just sick of Nellie’s ego getting in the way or his dumb mind games he typically plays with the players.

You just want to argue for the sake or argument. Do you have anything else to say about my other points with Jamal Crawford, Pietrus or Harrington? WeLLLL?!??

Bleh. Whatever. Im wrong. Sure..Don Nelson is the best. Let’s keep him as our coach for the next 15 years.

Send Nellie my best and a heart in a box while you smooche him on his way to the Best Coach in the NBA ever.

Some prime examples right there

Especially Morrow. He’s really trying to prove himself. Playing him 2:24 in a game where we already had a depleted bench is unacceptable. Devean is just happy he’s getting some PT

Nelly knows what he's doing no matter what you guys think

If he doesn’t play Morrow it’s because there’s a reason. Reggie has been outplaying Morrow in every aspect of the game. He knows how to take shots and knows what to do with the ball once he gets it. We don’t see what goes on in practice. Sure hands down Morrow is a better shooter but the other parts of his game just aren’t as refined as Reggie’s. These two probably go up against each other in practice allll day. For now, Nellie is trying to see what we can expect from Reggie and what he needs to improve for the summer. You can’t forget we’ve got this guy signed for sure for next year and Morrow is a restricted free agent.

More like...

Morrow is really a 2, but in Nellie’s system, and with Monta here already Morrow has to play the 3. A 3 in our system needs handles and be able to distribute, which is probably why the FO fell in love with Reggie and signed him for next year.

Nellie is a match up genius

Know what that means? If you’ve got a bad match up today, you’re riding pine. If you’ve got a good match up today? You’re playing all day long. The old guys have been around the block and accept this reality. The youngsters just want to play and play now.

Crawfor-… I dunno, it was a bad situation for everybody. He wasn’t great when he was here, he wasn’t ever part of the long term plan, and we’re all better off separated.

This all started with Webber

Webber didn’t like being yelled at – as a rookie. Almost ALL head coaches back in 93 yelled at their rookies. Webber was a baby and pretty much admitted so when he came back to the W’s for the 1/2 season. He said any player will have their best years of their career playing for Nellie.

Randolph is very OBVIOUSLY a head case. Just because he has raw talent and athleticism doesn’t mean he can help his team win because it’s a TEAM game. Unless Randolph gets his head right (which he was improving before his injury) he won’t help the team win.

Crawford – Nellie had to get rid of Crawford because of MONTA. It was very clear that when those 2 were on the court together – the game did NOT flow well. Not the fault specifically of either player — just was what it was. Basically you had two of the same player (point guards that aren’t really point guard – they’re shooters). Since Monta was the future of the team (last year) and they were trying to show their commitment to him (after the Rowell fiasco) – Crawford had to be the odd man out.

I think Nellie thought he was being honorable by telling Crawford what was up instead of BS-ing him. I think it backfired on him - in the press and public opinion — because Crawford was such a nice guy, it seemed he didn’t deserve it.

But, Crawford vs. Ellis – pick one. But you can’t have both.

There have only been a handful of players in Nellie’s history that clashed with him - and usually those players were head cases.

This team genuinely likes Nellie, except maybe Monta since Nellie handed the team over to Curry.

It does seem curious that Ellis is suffering through the longest/mystery flu during the same days that Nellie is going to break the record. Just a bit curious…

I've barely posted the past month

50% of the reason is b/c the Warriors suck and they can be unbearable to watch.

50% of the reason is b/c of posts like this one. The unrelenting bias of the OP (yes, we know where you stand) is killing this blog. Day in and day out, we get the same views from the OP, and we get the same responses to those views. Nothing seems to change; it doesn’t matter if you only log in once a week as it’s the same tired arguments over and over. What a waste of time and energy.

Meh

Every one of his posts has these underlying tones. Praise Nellie at all costs, curse Mullin, blame it all on Biedrins, blah, blah, blah. If you’ve read one, you’ve read them all. It has kinda ceased to be fun to be a poster around these parts because of it.

I like George

When he plays he has a good impact, he’s not a big time player but helps. He plays good defense and can hit a few 3’s. I’d have no problem if we resign him. He’s also a great locker room guy and a good vet to have around for the young guys.
