Golden State Warriors Make History! Don Nelson gets win #1,333 for most head coaching wins in NBA history
The season of breaking records for the Golden State Warriors continues. We won't go into the dubious ones they've broken this season, but today the most important of them all was broken folks.

The Golden State Warriors beat the Minnesota Timberwolves (see Game Thread) to give head coach Don Nelson win #1,333, giving him the most head coaching wins in NBA history.

Congratulations...
…to Nelson! Momentous achievement. He’s hoping he gets the call next year.
Congrats Nellie
You worked hard your whole career and it’s come to this. The most winning est coach ever!

A comment I made in March 2006 about the suckiness that was (at the time) Mike Montgomerry
It was perplexing to see Baron guarding Kobe for a stretch but there is really nobody else who stands a chance besides Petrius.
Maybe the thought was why bother wasting your best defenders on him when he’s just going to rise up and shoot over anyone quick enough to stay with him. Like there’s ever a coherent plan though.
The coaching is embarassing. Every night. Defenders on the wrong sides of picks, crowding quick guards 30’ from the basket and all the late game meltdowns. Much of the fun of being a Warriors fan in the early 90’s was watching Nellie outsmarting opposing coaches. Sickening.

So, blame me because you knew Mullin was checking out GSoM as usual and was like “Oh, hell yah!”. So you’re all welcome for We Believe ;) .
I give pressure the reach-around.

You know, one thing that nobody ever mentions; when Nelson took over for Montgomery in ’06, the Warriors had the exact same roster. There were no roster changes from the previous season (save for the great rookie, Patrick O Bryant) until The Harrington/Jax / Dunleavy/Murphy/Diogu trade was prodded by Nellie.
People complain about Nellie (and indeed until the last month, I thought this was his worst coaching year), but the difference between him and Montgomery was mind boggling. Perhaps Nellie’s largest impact this time around was that for a year and a half, he was the one coach that got Baron Davis to realize his potential. “We believe” died when Baron quit on Nellie towards the end of 07/08.

Baron knew his own potential long before he came to the Dubs. We believe died when they traded away JRich after the playoff run, Nellie just couldn’t stand the pressure of no longer being the underdog, so he had to make sure the team had an excuse to fail the next year.
Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

My favorite part...
is how Nellie shows us a little belly every game.

I put other because
he found a way to make us love and hate him at the same time – how many coaches can say that?
Congrats!
The cursive Nellie signature...
I wonder if that’s how he writes his name.

I heard it’s how his dog Lucky writes it.

Haha.
His dog has better handwriting than i do.
I like in that photo how you can see the evolution of the “Nellie Bellie” pose with the evolution of his bellie size.

Congrats Don!
One of the few to have appreciated Cap'n Jax. Do well in NC, get that 8th seed!

People must not have seen Run TMC
To have picked We Believe over that era. But congrats to Nellie! This would be a good season to retire after, or become an assistant coach.

Okay full-on tanking time?
We can win 50 next year if we get a really good pick :).
Congrats Nellie!!

congrats
nellie so many years of everything you went through all of it and endured it.
So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

Favorite part...
getting the most from what he’s got, often showing creativity beyond other coaches. I repeat: when Nellie coached against Phil Jackson in the ’92 All-Star game, the West won by 40 points. 40!
More favorites: aquiring Nowitzki and Nash during same half-hour; upsetting Larry Brown and Jerry Sloan in playoff series; winning games with mirrors; riding a tractor through Wisconsin in support of farmers; advocacy of 4 point shot; post-game interview brewsky; spiral tie-dye at NYE dead show; rumour of desire to trade Ewing for Shaq; late-night penthouse team party after WE BELIEVE; fish ties; poker, whiskey, and weed with Willie, Woody, and Owen!

By the way, does anybody know...
which coach has the most upset playoff series victories (defined as winning series against higher seeded team)? Nellie’s gotta be up there.
Yay for Nellie
His entire career has come down to this, 31 years as a coach and all those years as a player. A sure fire hall of famer, Nellie deserved this for all the work he has put in. Congrats Nellie, now go enjoy yourself the most historic cold one you have ever had

I dunno...
…about sure-fire. The hall could have seen that he was going to get the record, and they didn’t let him in. He was named on of the NBA’s ten best coaches, and he didn’t get in. People don’t seem to like him, and it may keep him out. Actually, I suspect he’s a veritable lock eventually, but I suspect he won’t see it in his lifetime.
Run TMC!
Of course!!
The undermanned, undersized, underpowered but highly competitive MILWAUKEE BUCKS from the 80’s in 2nd place, the WE BELIEVE team in 3rd place and the Point Forward concept in 4th.
