Thank man! I'm feelin this movement!
I think we got a legit shot and a good size ad! That is if most that voted do donate.
Thanks for re-posting this Atma
(was trying to find it). I Love JRich.
I never forget this
This is one of the many reasons I loved Jason Richardson so much. I think he even payed half of the cost to get that ad published, too. He even guaranteed that the Warriors would make the Playoffs in 06-07 which caused a lot of non-Warriors fans to laugh.
This is going to sound ridiculous, but J-Rich has been my hero for a very long time. Nowadays I wouldn’t consider a basketball player as my hero since i’m a grown man already, but J-Rich was my childhood hero. Back when I was in 6th grade I remember looking up to J-Rich and him being my source of pride for the underdog Warriors.
And since he’s been my hero as a little kid he’s still my hero now. I looked up to him back then, seeing him on that court struggling to carry a team made me appreciate him so much. And now, he’s the starting SG on a contending team, it makes me so proud of him and all the hard work he’s gone though. He shows that even if you aren’t perfect and have flaws, you should still strive for something even when the odds are against you.

I still love J-Rich
But he broke my heart in a game vs the Thunder earlier in the year. How you see J-Rich is how I see Kevin Durant. Game was tied with a couple seconds left in the game, then J-Rich made a layup for the GW shot lol. Oh well better him than Kobe I guess :-)
then J-Rich made a layup for the GW shot
haha, that’s our boy! No brokenWing on him
Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

Just sent out 6 bucks.
Can we somehow put
“FOREVER A WARRIOR”
somewhere on the ad just to show our loyalty to him and how we view him even though he’s considered an “ex” warrior?

Thanks! Much appreciated!
I’ll try and work that In, I’ll be working on the design over the weekend. That would like good @ the end though!
Anyway we can get a meter as to gauge how far we are to our goal?

Pay Pal should have a running total...
I believe, at least it looks that way on the donation page. But it would register until the account is linked in the next few days. So far I’ve gotten about 9 donations, 2 for more than the $5, total we have about $70 not including what I’ll be throwing in.
I'll...
…grant you that I liked Richardson as a player, but I think all the laudatory remarks about what a “great” or “fantastic” guy he is may be overlooking his legal troubles the last couple years. Even if he’s a gutsy player with his heart in the right place, he’s also made some very bad decisions (I’m referring to two incidents in his Phoenix days) and I don’t really feel like I should be holding my nose and donating in that light. I agree that the world doesn’t necessarily function as a meritocracy, but as long as the dollar is almighty I think I need to wield it as best I can.
completely understandable....
and considering those instances, I don’t blame you. But I’ve always advocated that players shouldn’t be considered role models really. This is just a matter of what he did on the court, for the fans when he was here. I think he really took to heart trying to perform at his best and make his team win and fans happy. Something that can’t be said of most athletes even. Personally, not knowing the guy, I’ll never judge, he’s made some bad errors in judgement, but IMO that has no bearing on whether I’ll root for him on the court.
Compared to many other good ex warrior players
Who else would you root for and cheer for? Gilbert Arenas? Stephen Jackson? Not saying that I don’t totally disagree with your point, but I consider loyalty a very important characteristic, especially in professional sports where the majority of players just follow the money or go somewhere where they can win. And then you have someone like Jason Richardson, someone who didn’t care if we won or lost, he wanted to be a Warrior forever. I must admit, his contract was a bit bloated, ok, really bloated and grossly overpaid, but it didn’t matter to him if we won or lost every night, he still wanted to be a Warrior through thick and thin and he showed us his appreciation for us, it won’t hurt to show our’s back to him and let him know he still has plenty of love here in the Bay. In my heart, he’s welcome back anytime.

I believe...
…there’s a distinction to be made between rooting for a player strictly in the interests of your favorite team, rooting for him in a personal sense, and most of all paying homage to him with your money. I like that Jason Richardson liked being here, uncommon as any player feeling that way has been the last two decades. I don’t know if you mentioned them because of their off-cout issues as well, but if pressed I’d have to say that Jackson’s is very bad because he fired a gun, though from what I understand he did so in a rather crazy situation in which he’d been assaulted (hit by a car?) outside a club. Arenas’ snafu, though, I have much less problem with than J-Rich’s most notable one, since Gil’s guns weren’t loaded and therefore posed no more inherent threat beyond freaking everybody the hell out because their psychopath point guard brought his weapons to work.
In J-Rich’s case, he was tearing ass around at 90 miles an hour (55 zone) with his son improperly fastened in the backseat, at least insofar as the law is concerned. I don’t necessarily believe in athletes as role models (hell, I’m kind of too old to be looking for celebrity role models in any capacity), but I don’t feel comfortable looking the other way (which I feel I’d have to do to donate to this as much as I would if I bought him a coffee and gave him a big slap on the back) on a matter that reflects such unpleasant behavior.
Any updates on how much money has been raised so far?
And for that matter, what is the goal?

Currently we're at $200 in donations...
just about 1/2 way there, if anyone can ask friends for donations it’d be greatly appreciated. I think we may have to extend the time a bit in order to make the goal.
