Cleveland Cavaliers @ Boston Celtics :: 2010 NBA Playoffs Day 27

I_medium

Is this LeBron's final game as a Cavalier?

via a.espncdn.com

In yesterday's action, nothing happened! That's because all of the other Round 2 series have been decided by 4-0 sweeps. But in the previous game of this series, we saw the Celtics take control of the game in the 2nd half and demolish the Cavaliers. We also saw a lackluster performance from LeBron James, leading some to question if his elbow sprain is flaring up, or if he has given up on his team.

Today, we will see if the Celtics can hold on to their 3-2 series lead and advance. Just last season, they held a 3-2 series lead against the Magic and lost the final 2 games, so it's not automatic that the Celtics will win tonight's game. And that's why we watch the game!

Accuscore fun: Cavaliers 49% - Celtics 51%
Series gameflows: Game 1 | Game 2 | Game 3 | Game 4 | Game 5

Today's lineup:
Cavaliers @ Celtics Game 6, ESPN 5:00pm PDT

We should give Lebron a break.

Is it me or am I the only person who thinks the media (and fan) frenzy over Lebron James’ play over the last few games is overblown?

Granted, the stakes are high for Lebron, the Cleveland Cavaliers, City of Cleveland, and arguably the state of Ohio who’s economy probably rests on Lebron’s extremely toned and muscular shoulders. He’s only 25… but a mature 25 with several playoff berths and already a finals appearance. With the hate aimed towards Lebron after the 32 point embarrassment that you thought only the Atlanta Hawks could do, you would think Lebron has gone from the Golden Child to the Donovan McNabb of the NBA. Give the dude a break! Did we forget that he averaged 38.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists last year in the conference finals? Do we forget that an aging Shaquille O’Neal is practically as dominant as Andris Biedrins? Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker are crap, in my opinion, and are nowhere near the sharp shooters and great defenders of say Michael Cooper and Byron Scott of the showtime lakers (who I assume Moon and Parker are supposed to be to James’ Magic Johnson).

It’s not like he went on his day off between playoff games to graduate from college…

The most important game in the career of Lebron James.

Note it down guys: Lebron will drop 82.

How soon they forget. Lebron is still Lebron when he’s hurt, he’s not suddenly Darko Victorycigar. I’m hoping he’ll recover and pull off a 7 game series victory cause I’d like to see him go up against Jrich’s Suns or the LALakers.

Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

Why is Mike Brown such an awful coach?

Am I the only one who saw the Cavs not move without the ball and play RIGHT into Boston’s slowdown scheme? Why would he not put Varajao at center. As good as Shaq played he played them into Boston’s hands. No way that aging Boston team could keep up with Mo, Delonte, Lebron, Antawn, Varajao running the break.

I just don’t get how this guy has held a job. Even with Cleveland’s mediocre roster. I’m positive atleast 5 or 6 other coaches would have delivered a title. His in game adjustments are awful.

Man, both knees have problems huh?

Hopefully he’ll hold up. We need him next year.

"I tell him straight, 'If you're going to lead, you have to be the first to practice. You have to come in, get your work down and be prepared for practice,' " assistant coach Keith Smart said. "He needs to figure out why he is having stomach problems and he's got to watch how LeBron (James), Kobe (Bryant) and D-Wade (Dwyane Wade) work. He needs to mimic that if he wants his teammates to speak volumes about him." -Keith Smart on Motna Ellis

This isn’t a baseball blog, but man I bet the Giants wish they had Fred Lewis right now. The guy has a 1.026 OPS in May with the Blue Jays after an abysmal April.

The Ultimate Opportunist

by Rated-R Superstar on May 13, 2010 6:09 PM PDT reply actions

The Giants just got swept by the Padres again. (I hate the Giants, so I am not complaining at all.) Man, I don’t even know how San Diego is 22-12. They have four guys with an OPS of over .710, two are over .800 and nobody is even at .900 including Adrian Gonzalez. Their pitching has been surprisingly elite and I guess they’re just managing to score enough runs for Garland, LeBlanc, Latos and Richard.

From San Francisco’s perspective, they obviously need a bat. Lance Berkman might be available, but he can’t play in the outfield. That’s where they need the bat to be, really. Sandoval has third base locked down since they need Huff’s .370 wOBA. Huff can’t play the outfield. He’s confined to first base. I don’t know if adding Berkman can really help since he can’t play in the outfield. What he gives you with the bat cannot overcome his defensive woes in right and left.

Just for fun … suppose we pluck #1-3 and offer up the pick, Monta and Maggette. You have to think the Cavs would do it rather than let LeBron walk for nothing and see what they could scrounge up in the free agent market. Unlikely LeBron would agree to it, but who knows? Maybe as a nice parting gesture to his home state…?

Curry/Livingston
Williams/Morrow
LeBron/Azubuike

by Sleepy Freud on May 13, 2010 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions

A sign and trade isn't requested by the team

it’s when the player says “Hey guys, I’m gone. If you want to get something in return, you should sign and trade me.”

by Reverend_Randy on May 13, 2010 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions

That’s not going to be the case at all. He’s either going to stay, or he is just going to leave and sign elsewhere. I don’t think he would want to go to a team that is trading some of it’s best players for him. He wants to go to a team that can win a championship. That would be dumb of him to even think about a sign and trade because it only worsens his chances of winning a title.

by duballers23 on May 13, 2010 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions

I was saying that

Probably not, but that doesn’t mean the reason you gave is a valid one.

by Sleepy Freud on May 13, 2010 8:30 PM PDT up reply actions

How is it not valid? LeBron is not going to go to a team that is giving up some of it’s best players for him. He wants to go to a team that has other really good players so that it will better his chances of winning a title.

by duballers23 on May 13, 2010 8:32 PM PDT up reply actions

I didn’t say anything about a sign and trade. I said if they’re going to sign him, then they’ll keep him.

That’s not how it works. Say he decides he wants to go to Dallas to play with Dirk. That’s when the sign and trade comes into play. He says “You guys will get nothing otherwise” and they go for it, offer Roddy Buckets and Damp’s weird contract. They can’t just say “oh whoops, we’re keeping you LeBron.”
I agree that he won’t be involved in a sign and trade, but that’s cause the Cavs have said that they don’t want to do that and because the Bulls have a good team for him to move in and fill.

by Reverend_Randy on May 13, 2010 8:35 PM PDT up reply actions

This was your initial reason:

Why would they trade? If they sign him, then they’ll keep him.

This made no sense. If your argument is that LeBron probably wouldn’t go for it (a totally different point), I don’t think you’ll find much disagreement.

This just in: Mike Brown has been fired

Man, he should have been gone l-o-n-g ago. If there ever was a coach whose whole demeanor screamed “loser,” it’s Mike Brown. Awful tactics aside, the most obvious loserly moment tonight came in the third Q, when the Cavs, after battling the whole game for their lives, found their heads momentarily above water, up 4 in third. Cut to Mike Brown courtside … joking and clowning. In Fleet Center! With his team on the brink! With the entire city of Cleveland on tenterhooks, desperate for their first championship in generations. Can you imagine Phil Jackson, or Doc Rivers, or Stan Van Gundy, or Nellie, or anyone who isn’t a complete joker and clown, laughing in that situation?

I mean, I know coaches don’t matter that much, but Mike Brown the last two seasons has submitted two of the most loserly coaching performances I’ve ever seen. If I were a Cavs fan, I’d be absolutely beside myself.

Since I’m a Celtics fan … Woohooooo!!! Down goes James! Ubuntu!!!!

There will be no extra point!
