Ways to cope with Lakers Fans
I am a long time die hard Warriors fan who grew up in the Bay Area loving this team from the days of J-Rich, Antawn Jamison, and Gilbert Arenas to the current trio of Monta Ellis, Steph Curry, and Anthony Randolph. However, this year I had to leave the Bay to go to college, and unfortunately I ended up in So-CAL. I don't have any complaints about the college or So-CAL in general, it just pisses me off how many Faker fans there are down here. Instead of seeing Richardson, Davis, and Ellis jerseys everywhere all is see is Kobe. That alone is ignorable, but over the course of the season it became evident that I am a Warriors fan and ever since then I've been taking crap from all these so called "Laker Fans."
I put it in quotes because as many of you know, there is no such thing as a real Lakers fan. People only like that team because they win all the time and because they have no idea what basketball is really about. Try asking any of them to name 5 other Lakers than Kobe and they have no idea what's going on. It gets worse when they claim that their team is better than my team. Really? Are you serious? How can you even claim that a team is yours if the only player you can name is Kobe Bryant?
This FanPost was really just created for me to get my feelings out on the matter. I was just wondering if any of you have had to deal with Faker fans like this and have any advice on how to put up with them. I'm stuck here for another month so any help would be appreciated...

Well, you are residing in So Cal now...
So you are going to have to be way more patient living around Laker fans. Gotta be more patient than not making the playoffs for 12 years.
You are living in their territory so you gotta respect that. Doesn’t mean you can’t flash your Warrior pride out there…so big ups to you man for being Dubz represent.
What is more annoying of an experience than yours is when the Lakers come into Oakland to play the Dubz and the Roaracle turns into Staples Center Bay Area.
It’s even worse when you are a fan who stays after every live game but losing by 30+ points and Laker fans walking passed your row talkin smack to you that “Warriors suck” when you don’t even say one word to them to begin with to escalate such treatment.
People love to talk smack about FAKER FANS but I do question where the hell were the Warrior fans that game?
I felt like I was one of the 10 people that night cheering for the Warriors.
Oh well whatever. Next season please.

I agree...
I haven’t seen any of the Warriors vs. Lakers games live, but even on TV you can tell that there are a lot of fans rooting for the Lakers over the Warriors. I don’t question the loyalty of Warrior fans in that situation, but rather that’s just the only 2 times of the year when the Laker fans come out of their shells.
And I do respect Laker fans since I’m living in their territory now, but only when they’re educated. It’s the people who associate Kobe with the Lakers and that’s the extent of their knowledge who I have a problem with. They just start stupid chants like “the Lakers are better” and don’t want to have an honest conversation about their team. I hate people like that…

Word to that.
I’ve visited So Cal many times in the past rockin a Warriors Jersey and ran into many hard core Laker fans that were cool, showed a lot of respect, and was able to have a good basketball conversation with. This was before the We Believe era and a lot of those Laker fans wished us the best because they did like our squad back then (Arenas, jrich, Murph, Jamison, Damp Era) and felt like dubz were finally going in the right direction. They also gave props to Warrior fans still existent because during that time they thought Warrior fans were extinct. LOL. Lot of them knew about Arenas since he was from so cal. (some of them really wanted Arenas on the Lakers and were jealous the dubz copped him up)
Anyways…my point is…no matter what fan base there is out there..you’ll always have Idiot fans and fake fans, but you’ll also have cool opposing fans that you can chop up hoops with.

Hate to say it but
Most of the Warriors fans/STH sold there tickets to lakers fans for 10X what they are worth to make up for the game we can’t go to that we have to sell for pennies on the dollar to “True Warriors fans” LOL
nobody wants to show up to a game when we could potentially get blown out by 20-30 pts and have to hear all the “Faker fans” celebrate in our house….No way I would want to pay to put myself though that. I learned my lesson after about the 10th time i made that mistake…LOL
What the hell is a Laker anyway???
God Willing...
It's just a carryover from their Minneapolis days
It’s just a person associated with a lake. Like a resident or tourist. You know how Minnesota is the “land of 10,000 lakes,” so it actually made since as a nickname when the organization was founded. I actually find it funny that they kept the nickname when moving to L.A. because it makes it really unique, even if stupid.

I just don’t like guys that claim to be ‘Laker fans’ since birth and therefore they are fans of the Lakers. That’s called bandwagoning.
You guys are welcome here, but Laker fans are disliked all throughout NorCal.

But trolling has nothing to do with bandwagoning. So why is he a troll?

Why is the majority of the Laker fanbase as ignorant as can be?
by LarryLegendofOracle on May 14, 2010 5:30 PM PDT up reply actions
The Clips have always been the "weird sister-in-law" type of team
Because they used to play in San Diego, then when they moved to L.A. they played in the Sports Arena, which is a sorry excuse for a professional venue. And the atmosphere around the Clips has always been way different, even in the rare occasions that they have been good. They’ve always kind of been the West Coast version of the Mets. It’s just kind of different. Kind of like the Kings up here. It’s obviously a bit different, because they don’t play in the same city, but the similarities are there. They haven’t been there as long, and play in a craphole of a facility (which the Clips used to).
It’s just kind of different. Kind of like the Kings up here.
You’re compring the Kings to the Mets/Clippers?
The Kings have one of the best fanbases in the NBA and certainly one of the most loyal. I don’t see the comparison.

That's what I hate most.
The worst part is how they don’t give any respect to any other team in the NBA besides maybe the Cavs (because of LeBron). They have no idea how the salary cap works and keep saying stuff like how they’re going to get LeBron next year. They need to learn to respect other teams. Every team in the NBA has AT LEAST one bright spot. I may be biased, but I think the Warriors have several, starting with the new owner coming in and what is sure to be one of the top 5 point guards in the NBA in Steph Curry.

same thing happined to me
I moved down to SoCal for college as well which was great but they only had Laker games on Comcast and then all my roomates were Laker Fans….it was a nightmare…but they were at least knowledgeable and respected the Warriors somewhat. What I can’t stand is the Laker fans that are Bay Area born and raised or the drunk Laker fans at the Warriors game talking trash and then acting like they are living Gods when the Lakers barely beat the Warriors…How do you cope with those guys???
"...when the Lakers barely beat the Warriors..."
I love this statement. It is so true. I don’t remember the exact date but there was a game this year in which Kobe had to drop like 45 points to beat us. And this was with a fully healthy and developed Lakers team vs. (what Laker fans call) “the crappy Warriors.”
Honestly, if your team is that much better than ours, then you should have the game wrapped up by the end of the 3rd quarter. Kobe had to slug it out for them to win that game. If I remember correctly, Monta got a chance to hit what would have been an AMAZING game winner, but it just rolled off the side of the rim at the final buzzer. That is not domination. That is luck that let the Lakers win that game.

"I could be chasing an untamed ornithoid without cause."
Here's how you deal with Laker fans
First, understand that the people you described are not fans of basketball. There’s no point even trying to discuss basketball with people who don’t know who is on the local team. Ignore them. They do not even count in the discussion of dealing with fans. Because they are not fans.
If someone is a real fan (such as me), which can be determined fairly shortly into a discussion about basketball, then feel free to debate. Most Laker FANS would probably readily admit that they don’t know much about the Warriors (I didn’t until I moved up to the Bay Area) but will still discuss the game with you. But you must understand that the actual Laker fans, such as myself, get real defensive when we hear statements like “there’s no such thing as a Laker fan” and “you just like them because they win” and things like that, because I for one have been a fan since the day I was born and it is really insulting to hear someone you don’t know anything about basketball just because you are a fan of the best team. Hell, most of us are Dodger fans too, and they are usually unmitigated crap (outside of the last couple years).
As a matter of fact, that’s the easy way to find the real fans. Ask them who they like in other sports. If a person that says they are a Laker and Yankee fan, end the discussion immediately. Most real fans, people like myself, would say Lakers, Dodgers. Football is kind of a toss-up. I personally am a Raiders fan (which means that after the playoffs sports get crappy again for me), since they were the local team growing up and my youth football coach told endless stories of Jack Tatum mutilating people.
Also, you complain that nobody wears Warriors jerseys in Southern Cal. I don’t know if you’ve gone into any sports stores down there, but they’re kinda hard to find, I’m not gonna lie. Maybe that’ll change when they get the new jerseys, assuming they’re not as hideous as the current ones which by all accounts they won’t be. Complaining about local people wearing the jersey of the local team, when they are barely even sold in stores there, is kind of silly.
I should note my comment below is going to be really stupid
But you must understand that the actual Laker fans, such as myself, get real defensive when we hear statements like "there’s no such thing as a Laker fan" and "you just like them because they win" and things like that, because I for one have been a fan since the day I was born
What the heck? Were you some super intelligent newborn or something? I had a hard enough time learning how to hold my poo in and using my eye balls, let alone be able to pick a sports team I like.

Let me put it this way: I am a Laker fan. My father was a Laker fan. My earliest sports memories are watching Laker games. The first pro sports event I went to was a Laker game. The first jersey my dad ever bought me was a Byron Scott jersey. My favorite pair of shoes I have ever owned was a pair of light-up L.A. Gear shoes that lit up in Lakers colors.
That was what I meant. That is why I am a Laker fan. If I may ask, if that isn’t a valid reason to be a fan of a team, why are you guys Warrior fans? Do you have different reasons?
Both of you knew what I meant
If I am one of those “both” yes i did know what you meant. I was just joking around. I have zero reason to question you on this and don’t see the reason to do so. I just saw the sentence in your post and it sounded sort of funny so I decided to be an idiot. Didn’t mean to suggest anything by it.

You sure it’s not ’cause the Lakers are good?
That’s why most ‘Laker fans’ are fans of the Lakers; because ‘I was a Laker fan since I was a kid, and it has nothing to do with the fact that they are one of the best teams in the NBA with a potential all-star in every spot of the starting lineup.’
Sure…I believe you.
If I may ask, if that isn’t a valid reason to be a fan of a team, why are you guys Warrior fans? Do you have different reasons?
Yeah. I am a Warrior fan because they suck. Sacramento fans are fans of the Kings because they suck slightly less than we do. People are fans of the Clippers becuase they suck ever so slightly less than the Kings.
Get it?
We suck. We’re a horrible team. And when our rookies (Evans, Curry, Griffin) lead us out of this pothole and your obnoxious counterparts stop asking us who the Warriors are and what the hell a basketball is, we can say ‘We aren’t bandwagoners, we there right here when our team sucked.’ Get it?

You’re a Warrior fan only because they suck?
Which means you would stop liking them if they became good and start liking some other crappy team?
And yes. I am sure of why I am a Laker fan. Like I said, I am also a Raider fan when it comes to football. Always have been, always will be. Even if Al Davis somehow outlives us all. Can’t accuse me of being bandwagon there. But you’re probably a Lions fan, right? Just because they suck?
Which means you would stop liking them if they became good and start liking some other crappy team?
No, reread what I said.
Can’t accuse me of being bandwagon there. But you’re probably a Lions fan, right? Just because they suck?
I’m not a Lions fan. I really am not a fan of the Raiders anymore, as they cut Russell.
I wanted Russell gone, but now, in retrospect, the Raiders would be better to root for whilst they sucked.
However, for the Warriors- It would be better to root for them as a winning team.

Saying that implies that you only like them because they suck. And that you would not like them if they were good. Where am I wrong in that conclusion?

And when our rookies (Evans, Curry, Griffin) lead us out of this pothole and your obnoxious counterparts stop asking us who the Warriors are and what the hell a basketball is, we can say ‘We aren’t bandwagoners, we there right here when our team sucked.’ Get it?
Where am I wrong in that conclusion?

Still didn't tell me where I was wrong
Again, I asked what was your motivation for being a Warrior fan. I assumed that your reason for being a Warrior fan would be the same that I am a Lakers fan. You, instead, said that you like the Warriors simply because, to quote you, “they suck.” Which, logically, led me to conclude that you only like teams that suck. You claim that I like the Lakers simply because they are good, and I wouldn’t like them if they started losing. Which I already stated isn’t the case. However, using your own logic, that means that if you only like the Warriors because “they suck” then you wouldn’t like them if they started winning.
Please tell me the fault in that conclusion, based off your original statement.
15 going on 16. No, it's not a show on TLC. I'm talking about the Lakers!
There is no fault in your conclusion
but, for the sake of the discussion, assume he means that ‘We aren’t bandwagoners, we there right here when our team sucked’ is what he meant. I think that’s best at this point.

Always. And this post illustrates it perfectly.
Check out how offensive this part is:
And when our rookies (Evans, Curry, Griffin) lead us out of this pothole and your obnoxious counterparts stop asking us who the Warriors are and what the hell a basketball is, we can say ‘We aren’t bandwagoners, we there right here when our team sucked.’ Get it?
It’s so much more offensive than:
I don’t have any complaints about the college or So-CAL in general, it just pisses me off how many Faker fans there are down here. Instead of seeing Richardson, Davis, and Ellis jerseys everywhere all is see is Kobe. That alone is ignorable, but over the course of the season it became evident that I am a Warriors fan and ever since then I’ve been taking crap from all these so called “Laker Fans.”
It’s almost like I’m trying to stay on topic.
“Yeah. I am a Warrior fan because they suck. Sacramento fans are fans of the Kings because they suck slightly less than we do. People are fans of the Clippers becuase they suck ever so slightly less than the Kings.”
How rude and condescending to the Warriors! The organization over the last 15 years have been great! Cohan is a great man!

I know. The only argument they have is ‘we have more rings’.
Can’t wait till Monday and Nash, Amar’e, and J-Rich destroy those spoiled a-holes and make those Fakers cry.
You wanna know how to ‘cope’ with them?
You [explicit] kick their [explicit]. You [explicit] talk [explicit] about their [explicit] team.
You [explicit]talk [explicit]about their city.
You [explicit] wait it out and let Ellison buy the [explicit] team.
You [explicit] for next year for someone to buy the team, and for Curry and the Warriors to [explicit] upset the [explicit] Fakers.
Got it?Please- they don’t give any respect to the Cavs. They won’t even consider Lebron a superstar.
Sometimes, they just make me laugh.
Yeah. I am a Warrior fan because they suck. Sacramento fans are fans of the Kings because they suck slightly less than we do. People are fans of the Clippers becuase they suck ever so slightly less than the Kings.Get it?
Not trying to be too offensive, just- get it? That’s why.
I’m not a Lions fan. I really am not a fan of the Raiders anymore, as they cut Russell.
I wanted Russell gone, but now, in retrospect, the Raiders would be better to root for whilst they sucked. However, for the Warriors- It would be better to root for them as a winning team.
Is that the offensive part?
Because nothing I said was more offensive than that one post where I indicated that I was rooting for the Suns (like most of GSoM) to beat the Lakers (which most of GSoM, StR, and virtually the majority of the rest of the NBA wants to beat; hence the chant: Beat L.A.).
I don’t see it.

Finding jerseys:
In most locales you can find three types of jerseys:
Those for the local teams.
Those for the teams with a large national following.
Those for players with large national followings.
That means you can get a Kobe jersey lots of places, but you’re not going to find a Randolph jersey anywhere. But if you owned a store that wasn’t in the bay area, be honest, would you stock Warrior jerseys?
I wouldn’t.
All the time
LMAO I love this post. I’ve written a post here about my Laker hatred before too. Thanks man.
Im A Laker fan from the bay area
I know many Bay area Laker fans, some of which I will admit are bandwagoners. I am not however. Ive only supported one team. My first laker jersey was a Nick Van Excel. During that time there wasnt any championships. then they came and I was still a fan. Then Shaq was and I was still a fan even when we had Kwame Brown and Chucky Atkins. I see where warriors fans are coming from. Im an Oakland A’s fan and I want to throw my TV whenever the Yankees and Red Sox come to town and we get to see all these “fans”. That I believe is much much worse. Atleast the Lakers are another CA team. The yanks and sox are wayy across the country
I hope the warriors get it back together though. Oracle is a great place to watch the playoffs

Then Shaq was and I was still a fan even when we had Kwame Brown and Chucky Atkins.
To put it in comparison, that team of ’06 and ’07 with Kobe and Kwame was about as good as our grand team during the one year in the last fifteen years that we were in the playoffs.
Yeah, this one.

If you had it your way everyone in CA would be Warriors and giants fans...
You cant tell people who they are to support. My family wasnt originally from CA. They came from Hawaii, a land with no sports teams. Then they moved to the Bay Area. Their teams were the Lakers, Niners, and A’s. When I was born my dad was wearing a Lakers sweatshirt. Were my Dad and Grandpa bandwagoners? By your standards yes. Am I? hell no. What am I supposed to do? Say sorry Grandpa, Dad, Warriors fans say Im a bandwagoner so I cant support the Lakers anymore. According to them I have to support whatever team is geographically closer to my house.
I know where youre coming from. You dont think it pisses me off when I go to an A’s game and Yankee fans are running a muck? I hate the yankees.
You wanna know why I hate them? Because they win all the time. They take good players from my A’s because they have the money, Because unlike the A’s, Their management actually wants to win and put a Championship caliber team on the field. Simple as that.
I go in peace. No hard feelings for Dub fans who hate the Lakers, I understand.

What? I don’t hate the Yankees. Their fans are well aware of their players and can name every other team in the MLB.Their management actually wants to win and put a Championship caliber team on the field. Simple as that. So? I don’t hate the Kings. They’ve done a great job drafting for size and have a bright future, and can afford fancy things because Joe Maloof is rich. They may very well become a dominant team. For that, I hate our management.

Actually, from what I’ve seen around SBN, the highest basketball IQ would somewhat be a split between Brew Hoops and SacTown Royalty.
StR is much more active than our site, they have an underrated fanbase.
And at the bottom of the league…GSoM (maybe) and then SSR.

Be unphased
That’s the best way to cope with Laker fans. If they only watch basketball, it’s evident that they can’t appreciate how hard it is to cheer for a consistently losing team. You can rest assured that they’re in deep despair over every single playoff defeat while we would be happy just to be there. Extremely high expectations isn’t a good thing. Plus, Laker fans that make fun of the Warriors have their own insecurity problems. Ignore them.

Yea that's what I feel about playoff seeding
Of course I’d love a 1 seed and home court playoffs throughout, but the pressure that comes with that is ridiculous (i.e Cleveland the past two years). But, I do have to say, even thought it did feel great just to be in the playoffs in 2007, I was still pissed when we lost!
That happened to me too.
When I went to college in LA, I ended up making friends with a lot of SoCal folks who just grow up being Laker fans. While LA is full of airhead bandwagon types, there are also plenty of real deal fans who are knowledgeable about the game and stick with their team even through their lean years. Granted, their dry spells are nothing like ours, so take that last statement with a grain of salt. Back when I watched games at the Forum, their showtime squad was no more and they didn’t have Shaq and Kobe yet. They had hard working guys like Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel, and Cedric Ceballos, which made it easier for me to relate with those Laker fans. It wasn’t until success came back to LA that you got to see more and more of the obnoxious types of fans that only like the team because it’s fashionable. Anyhow, just remember that same thing can happen to us too…since too much success tends to breed arrogance.

When a team wins, alot of crazy stuff happens
Im one of the 90’s laker fans who was aroundbefore the Kobe-Shaq era. Theres always going to be a bad percentage of fans for winning teams. Just because the Lakers have the largest percentage of bandwagon fans doesnt take away from their real fans. No one questions a Bucks or Timberwolves fan. Bandwagoning hits everywhere. What happened? The Celtics forgot every other team in basketball?
Their fans think one of their players is the greatest of all time?
They can’t remember their own players’ names?
Their team wins because they are extremely deep, and it has almost nothing to do with effort?

It looks like the Celtics get the least bandwagoning of all the great teams. I was a fan since 2002 when my first NBA game was Warriors vs. Celtics. Loved both ever since. KG was already one of my faves before Boston, and likewise with Allen.
Boston fans are very knowledgeable. Maybe obnoxious but well informed, and loyal to death.
