Players we should get who are under the radar?

Okay, so this offseason, people are going to be talking about getting big names like Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire. It's probably unlikely for us to get a big name, but who are some players you have in mind that are under the radar?

Before the 2006-2007 season, we randomly picked up Matt Barnes and he ended up being such a great player for us. Do you think there's any players out there who could make the same impact or could be a good pickup for the future?

In my opinion, we should go for DeAndre Jordan of the LA Clippers. We could probably get him without giving up much in return, and have him back up Biedrins and Turiaf at the center position.  He's bigger than Biedrins and he's a freak athlete. His size and athleticism makes his potential pretty good, since he's still young. He needs to work on his post game, but his big presence in the paint could help us out on the boards. He's like a poor man's version of Dwight Howard

Also, if we somehow make moves to get a late lotto pick, I think we should use the late pick and go for Hassan Whiteside in the draft. He's another athletic 7 footer. Like DeAndre Jordan, his size and athleticism alone gives him a high ceiling. Right now, he's too skinny and needs to work on a post game, but I can see him being the steal of the draft. It would be like what the Lakers did when they drafted Andrew Bynum, people didn't like the pick at first, but LA wanted a project big man who would eventually become a decent center in the league.

PF: Anthony Randolph and Brandan Wright

C: Andris Biedrins, DeAndre Jordan and Hassan Whiteside

That is a ton of size and potential right there. Randolph at 6'11", Jordan and Whiteside at 7'.

I've always liked DeAndre

Call him a Warrior-Killer even (not hard lol)..

yeah

DeAndre has a lot of size. He seems like the perfect player to back up Biedrins and Turiaf. When DeAndre comes in the game and Biedrins/Turiaf are on the bench, the Warriors still have a lot of size/speed/athleticism on the floor at the center position. Curry can set him up for a lot of plays, too. If DeAndre gets the ball within 5 feet of the rim, he’s dunking on you.

Right, let’s pick up Deandre Jordan and Hassan Whiteside, 2 more projects.

by LarryLegendofOracle on May 19, 2010 5:18 PM PDT reply actions

yeah

It won’t hurt to have them at the end of our bench to develop for the future, especially if we can have them for cheap. I can see DeAndre making a pretty good impact on this team; I don’t really see him as a project, I see him as a good bench player with high potential to be a starter. He can be productive even though he’s young. Jordan and Whiteside are centers, so I don’t think they’ll slow down Wright and Randolph’s development since those two are power forwards.

But yeah, I agree that we need some veterans/impact players on this team, though.

by Precise Films Productions on May 19, 2010 8:07 PM PDT up reply actions

also

Having 7 footers is a good thing. It’s good to get them while they’re young just like the Lakers did when they got Andrew Bynum in 2005. In 2-3 years, having a deep team with plenty of size will be worth the wait, especially when they have a guy like Stephen Curry running the show.

by Precise Films Productions on May 19, 2010 8:25 PM PDT up reply actions

He is huge

I said Hassan Whiteside is skinny, and that DeAndre Jordan is bigger and more athletic than Biedrins.

Ronnie Brewer or Travis Outlaw. Both would be the best defenders on the team and both are 3’s that can guard Kobe,Lebron,Anthony,Roy, Etc.

by J-RIDAH on May 19, 2010 8:05 PM PDT reply actions

I don't know

I meant to say that we should try to get him if he’s available.

by Precise Films Productions on May 19, 2010 11:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Well okay. Let’s add Howard and Dirk and Lebron to that list.

Sorry to be a jerk but i don’t think he is. I’d love to have a guy like that on this team but there is no way the clips are letting him go. I think they believe he’s coming to form as he had a good year and showed progression. They also traded away camby which makes me think they’ve put faith into Jordan. Plus he’s still on a rookie contract.

Kevin Seraphin!

Pure post guy and is 6’10 250-260 and is a great defender. High potential but will be late 1st early 2nd because him coming out of France without too much experience. I say do a sign and trade with Cj and our 2nd rounder and get either the Grizzlies late 1st, Orlando’s or maybe Atlanta’s (all need some guard help). But I say only get Seraphin if we draft Johnson or Aminu. If we get Monroe or Cuz. Maybe do the same trade for either Damion James, Quincy Pondexter or maybe Devin Ebanks. Preferably Pondexter

Here is Seraphin :

the new Serge Ibaka

That being said. I would love Serge Ibaka

I’m very intrigued with his size and athleticism/ age. Similiar size to Favors, just a little bit older.

I don’t care too much what the draft boards predict. If the FO thinks he’s the guy, take him.

Hassan Whiteside scares the hell of me. Too much resemblance to the Notorious POB.

by KingBuzzo on May 19, 2010 10:07 PM PDT reply actions

yeah

I’m probably one of the few who’s stupid enough to like Whiteside.

I actually thought POB would be good, too. He had a fricken sky hook in his offensive arsenal, a decent mid range shot, and good size. I really don’t get how/why some people don’t make use of their skills.

by Precise Films Productions on May 19, 2010 10:59 PM PDT up reply actions

"He had a fricken sky hook in his offensive arsenal"

doesn’t matter much if you can only make like 20-30% of them in games.

by homer simpson on May 20, 2010 12:05 AM PDT up reply actions

yeah i know

but he could have at least tried to work on his skills more, he could have been better.

Is DeAndre Joirdan even a FA?

Hoopshype says hes under contract next year

In order to get a project big man.....

you need a mentor like Bynum had………… Kareem Abdul Jabbar!
i don’t think there is anyone on the Warriors staff that can mentor and teach a “project big man”

by HireMeAsGM on May 20, 2010 11:00 AM PDT reply actions

Hassan Whiteside is currently working with Hakeem Olajuwon.
Hassan Whiteside is a player that has been growing on me and given his age and inexperience dealing with the media, I found him to be in the upper tier on Thursday.

“I’m just working with Hakeem Olajuwon,” said Whiteside. “He’s like my mentor now.”

Whiteside is a good shooter for a big and I asked him if he feels more comfortable out there and if he’ll be willing to go down low in the NBA.

“I played on the perimeter when I was younger,” said Whiteside. “I was a guard and then I grew seven inches (at 16) and became a big man.

I also asked Whiteside how much room he has to improve and whether he believes he can develop into an All-Star center.

“I’m looking to be a Hall of Famer. I have big goals.”

if he pans out, he could be Nellie's point-center

And if he continues to work with Olajuwon, he can use his previous guard skills to be a deadly player in the post. IMO he has one of the best upsides in this whole draft class, probably even better than Favors and Cousins.

by Precise Films Productions on May 21, 2010 10:52 AM PDT up reply actions

Pass on DeAndre Jordan!

Imo, not really a big fan and dont see any potential. He’s only a Warrior killer because we’d play small and we dont know how to rebound. I mean look at the other players that are “Warrior killers” and look at where they are now;

Reggie Evans (Tor)- Benchwarmer
Craig Smith (Min)- Benchwarmer
DeAndre Jordan (Lac)- Primary Backup

These are only a few that come to mind, but you get the point. Having a guy have a career night against us is an understatement and shouldn’t be taken any further.

Having a guy have a career night against us…

…happens almost every game. We’re the worst defensive team in the league.

Jordan also backs up an all star which means he could be our best player (joking….kind of)
