Should the Lakers retire Derek Fisher's number? [True Hoop]
Excuse me, but I think I'm going to throw up. Why is this even a question?
Take a look at some of the comments. Further proof that LA Laker fans are some of the dumbest sports fans in the world.

LOL not GSW related
Just a post to spill some hate
"I tell him straight, 'If you're going to lead, you have to be the first to practice. You have to come in, get your work down and be prepared for practice,' " assistant coach Keith Smart said. "He needs to figure out why he is having stomach problems and he's got to watch how LeBron (James), Kobe (Bryant) and D-Wade (Dwyane Wade) work. He needs to mimic that if he wants his teammates to speak volumes about him." -Keith Smart on Motna Ellis

just pointing out how stupid people can be.

Fisher to the rafters?
would be a good statement for the working man. Do you job to the best of your ability for your whole career and you will be rewarded? I don’t really care what they do down there though as long as they can beat the eastern conference in the finals when it’s their job.
As long as they don’t run out of uni numbers it shouldn’t really matter if they do or don’t honor Fish?
Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

Then they should hang his jersey from the rafters of Fantasyland.
Derrick Coleman is my power animal.

Haha, or enshrine Fish as the symbol for the dying USofA middle class?

isn't there someone that can filter Atma?
His opinions are his own, and he has a right to them, sure…but sometimes I think "Does this guy realize he is in a position where (to many on the web) he’s representing the Golden State fans. This site is very popular and reaches many, just google search anything Warriors related and this site pops up. Sure, maybe he doesn’t get paid to keep this blog going and it’s a labor of love, but put that aside and just think about what you post. Have some respect for other teams and fans of other teams. Is it really THAT horrible of a question that it would make you vomit? Your post comes off not as witty, or cute, but as immature and bitter. Derrick sucked here, we get it. But he’s done a fine job being a steady hand and helping the Lakers win 5 chips. He’s a real person with real life problems and is a pro on and off the court. Even if you don’t like him, you have to respect the fact that Laker fans can DEBATE whether his number should be retired just like we can DEBATE whether Randolph is an all world talent who is going to be a future All Star.
I bring this up because time and time again I see digs and pokes at the Lakers, or other teams FAN BASES and Cities….we have sister-sites who I don’t think would respect that. And I find it funny that all the other regulars on GSOM really don’t have a problem being upstanding and representing not only GSOM, but the POV of the BAY AREA in a better manner.

Agree, at times I think Atma says stuff to bring page hits, but as front page material, it really is supposed to do a better job representing Warriors fans than it does. Also, pretty sure he DOES get paid for it….

I don’t think he was that bad, just not good enough to be our first option at point.

Completely Agree
Wasn’t the right role for him. It happens. I don’t mind that that is Atma’s opinion…but just think of a person surfing the web and coming to this site for the first time. You really want that post, plastered at the very top to be their first impression of GSW Fans? This site, for better or for worse, has become bigger than Atma or any one of the frequent posters….we have representatives of the Warriors Organization sending people T-shirts to promote the new look! GSOM Night!….and though that may sound overly-dramatic, posts like that hurt this sites credibility which is a damn shame because we have some really good debates and dialog that go on here.

Perhaps
The Golden State Warriors should retire Fisher’s number. Now THAT would be hilarious. Beat the Lakers to it! I think the Warriors have every right to complain him, right?
cause really if you have nothing nice to say you should say nothing at all…
There’s a lot more to the game than numbers. Derek Fisher does not deserve to be in the hall of fame, or the cover of NBA 2K11, or to go to the all-star game.
But he epitomizes everything the Los Angeles Lakers stand for: winning, toughness, winning, courageousness, winning, selflessness, winning. Excluding the Lakers, there are only 2 franchises that have more championships than Fish has with the Lakers. He has hit more big shots in big games than any other role-player not named Robert Horry.
In eleven seasons with the Lakers he has helped them to seven NBA Finals, and five NBA championships. Just because as GSW fans we can’t comprehend those numbers doesn’t mean we shouldn’t applaud them.
He is the only player on the Lakers that has Kobe’s full respect, and without that, who knows if they would have won these past two titles.
I’m sorry, but stop sipping the hater-aid. This guy embodies winning, which is what the Los Angeles Lakers are all about. If you ask Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson and Jerry West if Derek Fisher’s number should be retired, they will all answer yes.
I have been living in LA for these NBA Finals (though not rooting for the Lakers; I do hate them), and I can tell you that the fans here love him, admire him and respect him almost as much as they do Kobe. Does he deserve to be eternalized in the NBA? No. But does he deserve to be eternalized in Lakers history? Absolutely.
fish
LA isn’t Boston where every Tom, Dick and Dennis Johnson get their number retired. You’ve really got to be one of the all-time great players in LA to get your # retired. I mean look how few jerseys are up in the rafters. SEVEN. Logo, Wilt, Elgin, Gail Goodrich, Magic, Kareem and Big Game James. That’s it.
Fish will go down in Laker history as a loved player, but he’s not rafter worthy. You don’t see Kurt Rambis, AC Green or Byron Scott up there, and they were loved in LA for years. They were all multiple ring champs.
Nah, the only current Lake you’ll see in the rafters is Kobe, maybe Pau if they manage to string together a few more rings.
