GSW extends 2; chooses to not tender 2 - meaning?
Oakland Tribue reported that we secured the right to match offers to Anthony Morrow and CJ Watson, while we did not tender qualifying offers to either Anthony Tolliver nor Chris Hunter.
Goodbye AT!
Hanging on to two low cost guards, Morrow ($1m) and Watson ($1.25m), rather than two low cost big men might suggest that if anyone with a large contract is still to be moved it would be Monta Ellis, rather than Andris (Yahoo! Sports had reported a couple days ago that GSW was looking to move Biedrins).
It's curious that we didn't hang on to one or the other of the big men as cheap insurance since both AR & BWright are coming off injuries and Udoh is unproven, at best.
It's also curious that GS chose to retain Watson, after last summer's dealings it was pretty clear he wanted a fresh start elsewhere (Magic) and returned only because he had no choice. A malcontent in the mix would not seem to be the best ingredient on the bench.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

CJ’s too humble and nice to be a malcontent.

I think
C.J wanted to go somewhere else because he wanted garunteed playing time which he didn’t feel he would get with the Warriors last year with Monta at PG and Curry coming in at the time. I would think he would feel alittle better tis year after this past season

Just because the Warriors didn’t make them a qualifying offer does not mean they will not be back.
I forgot where I read it, but by not giving Tolliver or Hunter a qualifying offer, the we leave the 15th roster spot open. It gives us the opportunity to do a trade that gives us an extra player in return. If an offer was made to Tolliver, then trades would require the same number of players from both teams.
If nothing pans out via trades or the 15th roster spot is still open right before training camp, I wouldn’t be surprised if we signed Tolliver back, assuming he’s still available.
Gadzuric pushes Hunter out
There is little need for a 4th center and they are on the hook for Big G’s salary.
Tolliver lost his job to 3 first round picks who unfortunately for him play his position. He showed enough last year to land on his feet somewhere.
There also are a whole slew of undrafted quality guys who may or may not be better than Tolliver. This gives them flexibility to either bring Tolliver back or find a better fit.
The moves make sense for the team.
to your point
Trade rumors: There have been a ton of trade rumblings regarding potential trades of Ellis or Andris Biedrins, and Gadzuric heard one about himself before he even landed in Oakland. He might be traded with Biedrins to Denver for Kenyon Martin, a move that couldn’t happen until Gadzuric has been with the Warriors for two months.

I'm sad to see Tolliver go...
but not really emotional over Chris Hunter’s departure. IMO, I don’t think he was that great a pickup for the Warriors.
But I liked Tolliver’s game and heart. He could make a really nice rotation player/locker room presence somewhere in the league. And if he somehow finds his way back on the Warrior roster, I think he might have a small chance of playing time at SF.
Morrow’s tender is so so. Maybe this year’s awful streak he had sticking out more than it should, but he doesn’t seem like a very good NBA player. His defense is awful, and his dribbling is one of the ugliest things I’ve ever seen. The only real option for him to be any sort of help on the court is to stand on and wait for an open shot. But I guess, at 1 million it doesn’t really matter that much. Plus he seems like another “locker room presence” guy.
With regards to CJ, I’m glad to see him go. For the longest time, I’ve been hoping the Warriors would get a legitimate backup point guard. Somebody like Goran Dragic who can step in for about 15 mins and can rack up 3 or 4 assists a night while Curry and Monta take breaks. That way we’ll have a real point guard handling, avoiding potential disaster with Monta handling when Curry is out. We could also slide Curry to SG to give Monta some rest too.

CJ is not gone. And Dragic is one of the best backup point guards in the whole league. Especially after seeing him in the playoffs. CJ is a terrific backup to Steph and you shouldn’t expect all too much of him.
Warriors.
Wow read the last paragraph wrong lol. If he stays then so be it.
I don’t think he’s the best backup possible considering he’s more of a natural SG. Averaging 3 assists in 27 minutes doesn’t scream terrific backup PG to me. If the Warriors have Curry out, they should have a high efficiency, high energy guard initiating some good ball movement.
Last year it seemed like when Curry was out, the offense came to a standstill because natural SG’s (Monta and CJ) had to slide to PG, and we obviously didn’t get the same kind of passing we saw with Steph.

Morrow
I don’t care about the other 3

Pretty much
Would be nice to have CJ return too. But yes, we HAVE to keep Morrow.
Yes, we HAVE to
Morrow still has incredible upside. If he can improve his defense and dribbling… he can be an allstar someday. Seriously.

Upside? Yeah. Incredible upside? I think that phrase is usually reserved for very good athletes.

A couple of additional things to consider:
1. They can still trade Andris, they still have 5 guys who can play center/power foreward better or close-to-as-well as Tolliver or Hunter.
2. Independent of an Ellis trade, Watson and Morrow have NBA value. In other words, keeping their RFA rights, allows for sign-and-trade opportunities. There were one or two reported offers for CJ last year. Nobody is likely to give up anything in exchange for Hunter or Tolliver.
Derrick Coleman is my power animal.

no he was strong inside, not another stickman for sure. I could find plenty of playing time for him.

Neither Tolliver or Hunter did anything special...
Meanwhile, Morrow has and CJ’s been semi-productive. This is a pure talent evaluation. Tolliver and Hunter can easily be replaced by calling up D Leaguers during the year if necessary (even Tolliver and Hunter will still probably be available).
No need to read too much into it.
Trust me, learning english isn’t a waste of time. It is actually sort of useful.
