Source: Wall Street financier David Bonderman heads group bidding to buy the Golden State Warriors [Oakland Tribune]
The Golden State Warriors version of the Final Four:
* Oracle CEO Larry Ellison
* 24-Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov
* Mandalay Entertainment chair Peter Guber
* Wall Street financier David Bonderman
Who will win?
Comments
I was rooting for Ellison
but Mastrov is actually from the Bay Area and may actually give a damn about bringing home a trophy.

Ellison is one of the most competitive people alive.
I think he’d want to bring home the trophy too…

sure
I didn’t mean to imply that Ellison wouldn’t want to, but just that Mastrov may be a bit more personally “invested”, so to speak.
The thing is
Anything that Ellison takes on, he feels reflects on him personally. I think he would feel just as much, or more so, personally invested. If he fails at one thing, he will feel like he failed as a person. I don’t think failure is an option for him.
He is Tony Stark.

Agreed
Come on, the man spent $200mil+ on the boat that won America’s Cup. Let me repeat that, he spent $200mil+ on a SINGLE BOAT for a SINGLE EVENT just so he won. That’s almost four times the Warriors’ salary for next season. He will find a way to win by any means necessary.

I want Mastrov to win.
But if Ellison wins, I wouldn’t mind either.

I want Mastrov to win.
Yeah, he seems like it would mean more to him, I think he’d be more focused on the Warriors than the other guys.
Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

Are you serious?
Mastrov more focused than Ellison on winning?
And how much history does Mastrov have in dropping coin to win a world championship in any particular sport? Like, say, the America’s Cup? And Mastov is a “mere” billionaire compared to Ellison.
I haven’t a clue about how good either will be, but I look at Larry’s track record and, geez…
If Ellison decides he wants the team, he’ll be “focused.” Just saying…

His track record shows he’s a bandwagoner with a short attention span? Who in their right mind would care about winning the america’s cup if they were a hard core hoops fan? I’m a sailor and it don’t even interest me anymore since they let the lawyers take it over. From what I’ve read Mastroff has always been a warriors fan and wanted to own the team? He might not have the big bucks but he probably has more passion for the sport and with the salary cap rules they can only spend so much anyway. and having Magic Johnson involved in even a small way would be sweet.
Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

I wouldn't mind Mastrov
Because that would also bring in possible free passes to 24 hour or deals and Magic Johnson =D
This doesn’t really mean anything. It could just be that this Bonderman guy put in the first bid, therefore, is “leading” the process. Ellison’s bid will be the last and the highest.

Title misleading
I think it implies he’s the leader of the 4th group bidding on the Warriors and not the leader of the 4 bidders. Just like Mastrov is the leader of Magic Johnson’s group. Lol

Prefer Ellison, wouldn’t mind Mastrov. EIther one of those guys has scads of money and instantly raises the profile of the organization.

I would like to know what all these guys are really worth.
We all think that Ellison would not be hurt from the purchase and would have the resources to take care of business.
Mastrov? Could not guess. Would owning 24hr really get you the resources to put into what this would require?
Last I heard, the Mandalay Bay properties we not doing that well.
And a Wall St. financer? Lot of jokes to throw around with this one.
What I don’t want is A: another bad business owner and B: another owner who would not be “All in” when it comes to the team.

Mastrove founded 24-hr
and sold it for $1.6B, which is nowhere near the level of Ellison. I don’t know what his other investments are, though.
Hopefully not Curves. I’d have to boycott Mastrov then.

Remember Magic Johnson is part of the Mastrov group
so that would be kind of cool to have magic out as the front man and giving us way more cred then we have now.
Set a record by getting banned for the 8th time!
After rehab I saw the light and promise to be kinder and gentler!
Probation is a very slippery slope!
Ellison
Knows everyone too. Jerry West would be nice to have on our side.

Screw Magic
Yeah he would bring credibility to this franchise, but it’s not worth it to me. He loves his Fakers too much. Hell, he was even there when they presented the trophy, calling the Lakers fans “the best in the world”.

Guber?
We’ve already had a goober running our franchise the last 15 years, don’t know if we could take another.
Cohan is a punk for creating a bidding war
just hand the org to Ellison and be done with it!
It's Ellison's team
Cohan is just making him pay more like a douche that he is. Also, Ellison has silly money that are burning a hole in his Oracle stocks.

if mastov and magic by the warriors
that would mean magic would own part of the lakers and warriors?? you remember he was down on the court accepting the nba finals trophy
that would mean magic would own part of the lakers and warriors??
No, he would have to sell his shares of the lakers before being approved to buy part of the Warriors.
