Matt Steinmetz just tweeted

that the deal is now official “in principle”. Maybe they have to wait until Monday when the NBA offices open for this deal to be completely official.

Coming from a Heat fan. . .

I am a huge fan of Dorell. He’s long, quick, can defend 2/3’s. It should also be noted that his ball handling is very good and he was originally drafted as a PG, but grew (literally grew, went from 6’7 to like 6’9) out of the position. He also developed a shot his last season here. He’ll be a star in GS.

Nellie finally gets his...

point forward in his final season?

Predicted here first (ha!) sometime during the season as Curry sits/rests!

Okay, ain’t happening, but dang, it is a more interesting off-season than I expected (pre-sale, that is….)

Are you serious?

Serious?

Hell no, it was a Sunday morn post in the middle of the off-season. But it’s the FUN PART of the off-season! ;-)

But I can’t be the only Nellie fan here, hoping he goes out with a bang. If he gets Biedrins back on track, and Monte keeps his head straight, this is going to be a fun year. ;-)

1 – Curry
2 – Monte
3 – D Wright
4 – Lee
5 – Andris

Bench has holes, but it’s a start: BWright, Reggie, Ammo (oh puhleeeze!) Udoh, etc..

Compare that lineup with the 82 different starting lineups we (felt like we) had last season.

We need: Ammo and Watson kept, one more good deal from the FO, and the sale to go thru.

ever the off-season optimist….

by WillyWhiteShoes on Jul 11, 2010 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I think it may make more sense for D Wright to be a backup.

He’s potentially a much better rebounder than whomever else we might run out at that spot (as the roster is currently constructed.) When we sub in B Wright for Lee or Beans, our rebounding takes a major hit.

If we keep Morrow, I think maybe we start him at the 3 most of the time, but I could definitely see the starting lineup shift around based on matchups.

But I think having Morrow on the floor with Curry, Lee, and Beans maximizes what Morrow is capable of giving us, whereas D Wright helps cover for the reboudning shortcomings of our backups while Williams serves the “offensive sparkplug” role off the bench.

by Ronaldinho on Jul 11, 2010 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

I kind of disagree...

Only for the reason, I want out starting 3 to be defense first. Not really think of touching ball. hit some open jumpers. Bruce Bowen in his prime would be ideal. We got Curry, Monta, Lee who can carry the offense. Biedrins does his thing. Then Morrow, Williams, BWright as offensive situational subs.

by tafkasam on Jul 11, 2010 7:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed

We need size at the 3. Morrow is not big enough and his 1 on 1 defense is not good enough to start at the 3. Unless there are more moves coming, I think Wright is the best option for us to start at the three. From the few times I’ve seen him play, as well as what heat fans have said, he seems like a solid defensive minded player who can handle the rock and finish. He may not be a great shooter but is not terrible either. He has the athleticism to thrive with our team. I say give him a shot. We have 3 starters who can potentially be 20 ppg scorers in Monta, Lee, and Curry. We don’t need another starter whose main influence on the game is from the offensive end. Time will tell how well Wright does, but I’d like to see him get his opportunity to start (unless we get someone better this offseason of course).

by tom88gsw on Jul 11, 2010 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Yup

I always envied Spurs management. They lucked out with Duncan (no doubt) but talk about building PERFECT supporting cast. Parker, Ginobili, Bowen (most underrated).

by tafkasam on Jul 11, 2010 8:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, I'm not willing to pencil Wright in for more than 25 minutes a game at this point.

Maybe he proves he deserves more, but given his injury history, and the fact that even in healthy seasons he’s never played starters minutes, I think it’s a mistake to plan on more than that from him.

It’s not that I think wright might not be the best player of our available guys at the three – I do – rather it’s going to be about finding lineups which work, and I worry that Beans/Lee-B. Wright-Morrow will be too weak on the boards as a backup group.

by Ronaldinho on Jul 11, 2010 8:30 PM PDT up reply actions

OK I'll give you that

It’s more about staggering rotation. Always liked what Spurs did with Ginobili off the bench for example. I’d like a defensive minded wing in at star with Monta and Curry

by tafkasam on Jul 11, 2010 8:41 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm definitely not arguing for really strict rotations.

Simply that I think Morrow is one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the league provided you set him up, and I think that “setting up” will happen best when Curry and Lee are in the game.

Whether you want to start your best offensive or your best defensive group, or some mix, depends a lot on team philosophy and we won’t know more about that until we have a new owner and (hopefully) a new coach.

by Ronaldinho on Jul 11, 2010 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Also..

While I agree with the idea that Morrow is usually physically outmatched at SF on the defensive side of the ball, it might be important to note that he spent most of his time at SF last season, and somewhat surprisingly the team did better with him at SF than SG (-6.1 at SG, +0.3 at SF, Net48).

In fact, thinking about his defensive limitations (lateral quickness), I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually handled slower, stronger SFs better than the smaller, quicker SGs. Something to think about at least…

Bring back Morrow!!

I want Morrow on this team. I just do. If it’s a Dorell over Ammo, that would be crappy.
Gotta bring him back. I want those threes raining down, i love watching him shoot. Plus we need depth. I just hope he’s not a lux tax casualty, or i just hope they don’t use that as an excuse.

If we lose Morrow, is there a way to get our pick back?

Out of all the pictures to put in the article, they choose one where he blocks Earl Boykins out of all players haha

by lameallenmark on Jul 11, 2010 10:01 AM PDT reply actions   1 recs

HAHA

Someone pointed that out in a comment on that article too! Even though he’s blocking Boykins, look at the degree of difficulty? It looks like he picked up Boykins on a switch, played up on him, then Boykins penetrated, crossed him up and attempted to pull up for a shot, leaving Wright with his back to Boykins, but reached back and still was able to block him!

Yah who am I kidding, that’s still Boykins! Haha But no doubt this kid can play, and still only 24 years old! Check out this Youtube mixtape of him blocking bigger players and showing his athleticsm…

I like this

This is a good move. I wanted the warriors to get this guy all along. He’s a great defender, pretty good rebounder, and with more minutes could probably put up some pretty decent offensive numbers too. Having Morrow would be nice too though.

hmmmm.....

another good passer acquired. If it wasn’t the Warriors, I’d suspect an actual team strategy is being executed.

In 2K10

D Wright is only rated 64. But i’ll take you guys word for him being a good passer and ball handler. I don’t know much about him but i know enough to like him on our team. I love this if Morrow is back as well!

This is a good move, but not a huge one.

It’s a little hard to tell who Wright’s going to be for us, since his statistics swing so wildly from season to season (I suspect, in part, it’s based on how he’s used. I like that versatility.)

I like the fact that he appears capable of being an excellent rebounder. With Wright as our primary backup at 4 (and maybe 5) we’re going to need some rebounding help for when Beidrins and/or Lee are on the bench. Wright appears to rebound the 3 very well.

It’s a little hard to tell who is he offensively, with his TS% swinging from .452 to .536 in different healthy seasons. But this team, with Curry, Lee, Williams, and Beidrins – to say nothing of Monta – doesn’t really need more guys to take a lot of shots. SO that’s fine.

I like the versatility. He’s not very expensive.

I’d still like to keep Morrow, but if we keep Morrow, Williams, and Monta there’s a bit of a minutes squeeze.

by Ronaldinho on Jul 11, 2010 2:59 PM PDT reply actions

to solve that problem, you trade Monta.

Remember this deal is not complete and the terms do not seem to be finalized?

so is there a chance they can swap Door L for door MattyBarnes instead? and then sign the key to our playoffs chances door More-O ?

Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.
