Free-agent Barnes not likely to return [SFGate]
It seems like Matt Barnes' return to the Warriors is a longshot, but it would be fun. Here's hoping for the unexpected.

awww
i was really hoping he wud come back to tha bay
Hmmmm....Maybe
Just the fact that he contacted them is positive. I’d bet Barnes longs for the Vibe that only W’s fans bring.
If I was a player in the league, I’m looking at GS with different perspective than the last 2 years. 2 of the prospective owners are RICH and proven winner types. Recent moves + Steph Curry = A team on the rise.
Question is: Do you give Barnes the MLE? That’s what it will take to get him.
As much as would love to see him with the W’s - he brings the NASTY - with the signing of Dorell Wright, we have that position cover. Defensive minded SF that can hit the corner 3. Similar players.
wait HE contacted us?
the more playeres who want to come here, the better. the only way i consider this is if we DONT match the Nets offer to Morrow. THEN we can sign Barnes and have him back up D.Wright and have Reggie back up Ellis. Not bad…not bad at all actaully.
Curry / Watson
Ellis / Williams
D.Wright / Barnes
Lee / B.Wright
Bean/ Gad
Still rather have morrow tho..

Maybe sign and trade Morrow for Barnes.

+1 to sign Barnes if the Dubz dont want to match A-mo's offer sheet.
I would like to add:
the more players who show a lot of promise, really want to come\play here, play for the Roaracle, appreciate the town and fans will most likely be ignored by the front office.
or if he is already on the team and shows a lot of passion to stay here, he will get traded.

i rather have morrow..
althought Barnes would be cheap, he made 1.6mill last year, he wont take up all the MLE left would he?
I don’t think he takes up the MLE. I would rather have Barnes than Morrow because of that, plus he’s the thug we need on D. No more soft players. Morrow isn’t necessarily soft, but he is ineffective on defense. Defense, defense, defense. We have enough offensive players.

Man, I would love to have a SF rotation of D. Wright and Barnes.
Sign up C. Hunter to be our bigman insurance policy and we’re in good shape.

I think we would play alot of small ball though.
Barnes is a great small 4 because he rebounds well, and i’m sure Nellie knows that.

Barnes
He was one of the guys I was hoping we’d pick up to fill the hole at SF. I figured he’d be out of the picture now that we signed D Wright. If we could find a way to sign him I’d feel a lot better about the possibility of losing Morrow.
PG: Curry, Watson(?)
SG: Monta, Williams
SF: Barnes, D Wright (I’m not sure who would start)
PF: Lee, B Wright
C: Andris, Udoh
It’s a long shot, but that looks like as well balanced a roster as we’ve had in a long time.
Golden State Warriors '10-'11 Season: The Return of ^^^^
Barnes would start in that situation. He’s definitely better than Wright.
I’d be THRILLED if we could sign him for say, Morrow money.

Yeah, you're right
Wright is still totally unproven. Last years numbers are promising but he only played 20mpg. Barnes would start, though I could see Wright take over at some point if he keeps improving. Wright is a pretty hard player to get a read on. He could end up being a great signing, or… uh, not.

Have they actually signed the DoorL contract yet? Maybe they can switch it to a door M instead?
Matty or DoorL ? Don’t know much about Wright#2 , but we definitely need to keep More-O as our sharpshooter so only one of those SF’s makes the cut.

chris hunter is all mest up
broke nose and mest up knees? rather keep tolliver
I like Chris Hunter because he’s a big dude and is more of a C than Tolliver. He does more C things than Tolliver. If Tolliver was on the roster, I fear Don Nelson would use him more than Wright and Udoh.

Thats my fear with Barnes...is that he'll play over Wright, and Biedrins and push Lee to C.

i didnt hear he was looking for big $
but i did read that when we opt’d out from the Magic it was because he wanted someone to sign him to a long term contract..not a large one money wise
Idea...
If the Warriors front office doesn’t want to re-sign Morrow, why not do a sign and trade for Morrow to the Nets for a second rounder and a trade exception. Then we could turn around and use that exception and pick to get Barnes in another S&T.
I’m not sure if it’s realistic, but it might work.
Golden State Warriors '10-'11 Season: The Return of ^^^^
why would the nets do it though?
esp. if the nets know they can get him without the S&T. Sign and trades are usually done because the team who wants a player wouldnt be able to land them any other way. Thats why we did the S&T for Lee, there was no other way for us to get him.. Nets have plenty of money.. no need to help us out.
I actually got the idea of a S&T from the Nets blog on SBN
Don’t forget we still have the power to match, and we can keep a good chunk of their cash tied up for a week while other FAs are getting picked up. There is some motivation for them as long as the cost isn’t too high. They still have some of our picks that we gave them for (gulp) Marcus “anybody-need-a-laptop” Williams. It might not be too much to ask to grab a future 2nd in order to allow them to close the deal with Morrow. It would take some posturing on our part.
This is all working under the assumption that the W’s FO don’t want to retain Morrow of course, but the Nets don’t know that for sure.

Anyway...
My main point is that I hope the FO is thinking creatively. :-)

Morrow just signed the S&T sheet. Let’s see what Riley does with the trade exception.

There are a ton of protections on it though.

Thats the problem with players
Barnes just goes to any team he feels will win. I know it is a business, but after our team gave him his chance to shine and have a breakout season, how does he repay us? He stabs us in the back and jumps on the bandwagon of whatever is good now. I bet if you asked him where he had most fun, He would most definitely say Goldenstate. Players just totally take advantage of teams. It pisses me off. He could have stuck with us and ride through the bad times and into the good times. Players don’t sign because they truly care and love one franchise, but because they can make the most money one place or get playing time or win a ring. They don’t care about how that affects their former team or the fans that supported them.
Fuck the Lakers...Oh sorry the Fakers

With
Childress going to the Suns, we had better do something creative to find another SF! I know it was pretty unrealistic for us to land him with the salary he would have demanded, but I still would have loved the fit.
If we can (magically) turn Monta into Iguodala, we can cover all the stray minutes at 2 and 3. Something like…
Curry 38 / Bell 10
Iguodala 18 / Williams 18 / Morrow 12
DWright 22 / Iguodala 20 / Morrow 6
Lee 30 / BWright 14 / Udoh 4
Biedrins 28 / Lee 8 / Udoh 10 / Gadzuric 4
Quite a solid team, if we can make the $$$ work…
There will be no extra point!

We can’t because Montay was a condition for DLee to come here.

I'm sure Barnes
loves the bay but all his homies are gone. I dunno if he’d come back unless the money is right.
This is Kristin Kreuk, now zip it. - GTTM
chances just got higher!!!
That Barnes comes back. With the fact that Magic just picked up Q. Rich with a multi-year, Orlando is less likely to re-sign him. Also, since he contacted us, we can return the favor and reach out to him some more?
