Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

David Lee + Dorell Wright - Anthony Randolph - Kelenna Azubuike - Ronny Turiaf = Who else should we sign?

This Warriors have shaked the team up quite a bit this summer. Acquiring David Lee, Dorell Wright filling in the SF slot, and the losses of Anthony Randolph, Kelenna Azubuike, Ronny Turiaf and Anthony Morrow, the Warriors are definitely trying to build for the future. And I think they have done a GREAT job so far.

The team still needs to fill in a few roster spots though, whether it be signing players from the Summer League or looking for players still on the free agency market.

Since the Warriors are over the salary cap, the most we can do this off season is pursue trade options (ex. David Lee) and sign players to the Mid Level Exception (ex. Dorell Wright).

Here's a quick explanation of what the MLE is: Once a year, teams are allowed to sign a player to a contract equal to the average NBA salary, even if the team is over the salary cap already, or if the signing would put them over the cap. This is known as the Mid-level exception (MLE). The MLE may be used on an individual free agent or split among multiple free agents, and is available to any team that exceeds the salary cap at the beginning of the offseason.

With most of the MLE gone, the Warriors are lucky to have $4 Million from the Trade Exception they received from the Anthony Morrow trade with the Nets.

I looked over the list of Free Agents left and sorted out the most REALISTIC players we can still sign.

The only players there I’m interested in is Barnes, and maybe C.J.. We should go after Ramon Sessions. I’d rather we trade for him then resign C.J.. The Wolves are looking to dump him.

The only thing he has shown is he does not belong in the league. You didn’t really say Joe Alexander did you?

Tolliver but

would he need to be released once Udoh returns?? I wouldn’t mind Barnes and Wright spliting minutes at the 3

Tolliver unfortunately lacks the versatility of a player like Barnes or a PF that can play C too

he has shown nothing since he came in the NBA. he was the #8 pick and as of now he is a BUST! If we could sign anyone of these players, I hope its matt barnes

`We need a back up point guard. Now the quesitons is should we sign CJ? I say yes

but no more than $2.5M. TWolves want to dump Sessions, but his salary is $4M per for 3 more years. the other option is Luke Ridnour estmated to be at $4M per. Now that we have $2.7M in the trade exception, these players are do getable. I think I like Ridnour out of all of them.

Or how abot Rasual Butler? He’s improved his shooting from what i’ve seen

by Richboievans on Jul 12, 2010 10:53 PM PDT reply actions

really?

his 2009-2010 three point shooting % was the third lowest of his career. Sadly his 40.9% shooting from the floor was one of his better single season efforts.

What’s with everyone’s obsession with Barnes? He’s a decent player, but he’s not that good. Pretty dirty player if you ask me, and he’s getting old.

Allen Iverson?

He seems washed up already, I don’t think he has anything left in the tank anymore. If we’re going to get a point guard other than Watson we should go for Shaun Livingston.

Heck yeah

Add Richardson and maybe Barnes next year, and we have a team that could potentially be better than the We Believe team. Our front court would be so much deeper and better than that year, and we would get way more rebounds and play better defense.

We should go after Shaun Livingston...

He can guard PG/SG/SF but I think we have to make sure he is 100% before we can commit anything to this injury prone baller…Him & Dorell Wright are both the same age too! How about we use part of our trade exception to acquire him in a sign & trade with washington?

We need a 3 or a 5

Barnes would be great and we can play reggie at 2. But since we lost hunter, tolliver, Randolph, and now udoh injured and wright not 100% we should think about Kim Tillie. He is only 1 year older than Randolph, about the same size.. But with more of a reach and more meat on his bones. He is extremely athletic

by GSW Fan4Life on Jul 12, 2010 11:43 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Dubs need another insurance big man. B. Wright, A. Biedrins and E. Udoh cannot be counted on to be healthy. A quality back-up center (not Gadzuric) should be the next piece added. There aren’t any free agents who meet that standard so he’ll have to be acquired through trade. What’s Chris Wilcox’s situation?

by ChronicMasticator on Jul 12, 2010 11:44 PM PDT reply actions

I'll go ahead and answer my own question

Wilcox is on a one year deal making three million sitting behind G. Monroe. Hmm. Don’t think Pistons will wanna part with a vet center when a rookie is their projected starter.

question

sorry if this has already been asked but do the warriors not have enough money to resign bell or does he just not want to come back here? or do we not want to pay him what he wants? i just think he would be a good piece to this puzzle thats starting to be solved here in golden state.

PG – Stephen Curry, C.J. Watson (?)
SG – Monta Ellis, Raja Bell (?), Charlie Bell
SF – Reggie Williams, Dorrell Wright, Vladimir Radmanovic
PF – David Lee, Brandan Wright, Epke Udoh
C – Andris Biedrins, Dan Gadzuric

need help at C the most i think but i have high hopes biedrins stays healthy and has a career year…the 3 also doesnt look too deep at first glance but i think reggie williams is really going to step up this year and dorell wright will be a great pick up

by nhlogan on Jul 13, 2010 1:27 AM PDT reply actions

The Warriors don’t want to bring back Raja Bell because we already have Charlie Bell. It’ll be too difficult for the coaching staff to distinguish between the two, they’re already having trouble between Dorell Wright & Brandan Wright. Lol.

I don’t think Raja wants to come back, he’s looking for a championship team, he’s been talking to the Heat, Magic, and Mavs.

Warriors

Have to find a way to trade Radmanovic.

Warriors should look to bring in Craig Smith. A big body who’s efficient and help out in the rebounding game.

For the guard/forward position it should be between Barnes, Watson, and Brown.

I fully expect off-season moves to slow down from now on

If we can’t sign/trade a real contributing player, I wouldn’t be surprised if we use the TPE to sign Tolliver on the cheap and the rest of the MLE to resign Watson.

No way we are going into the luzury tax with a new owner coming in, salary flexibility is the name of the game.

Who knows though, Riley has surprised me more than once this season already.

I would love to have either Matt Barnes or Josh Howard on our squad. We need that one player who has a very effective defensive game and fiery personality to make our team believe. Matt Barnes has been a wonderful player ever since we acquired him. The past two teams he’s been on have enjoyed some improvements in their overall game. His hustle, defense, and three point shooting is very valuable. Josh Howard has a much more consistent scoring ability, but also possesses that hustler’s mentality. If we can get either one of these guys, our team will be on the verge of a good thing.

C.J. Watson becuz its his home..
Allen Iverson should sign with the heat becuz i want to see him get a ring.. then he could finally retire.. haha but it would be nice to see him running with us as well.. and ticket sales would be poppin…
Shaq becuz we would be best rebounding team.. and itll help our guards out… but if not id like to see him go to miami 2. so he can get another ring.. and he and lebron can go up against kobe.. ahaha.

Big Man, Backup PG(CJ), Wing Player! MLE + Trade Acception= roughly 9mil....

We sign CJ for lets say about 2 mil. 7 mil left to sign a SF and a PF/C. I would be down to go cheap and just sign CJ, Tolliver and like Cartier. But lets instead sign a SF and a PF/C to one year deals, they could always become valuable trade bait….

Here’s a list:

PF/C:
Jason Collins 31 U $825,497
Randolph Morris 24 U $855,189
Theo Ratliff 37 U $825,497
Jerome James 34 U $6,600,000
Brad Miller 34 U $12,250,000
Chris Hunter 26 R $632,455
Anthony Tolliver 25 R $427,317
Brian Skinner 34 U $825,497
DJ Mbenga 29 U $959,111
Steven Hunter 28 U $3,696,000
Joel Anthony 27 U $825,497
Jamaal Magloire 32 U $825,497
Primoz Brezec 30 U $825,497
Nathan Jawai 23 R $736,420
OleksiyPecherov 24 U $1,547,640
Tony Battie 3 34 U $6,606,600
Josh Boone 25 U $2,056,968
Earl Barron 28 U $48,559
Etan Thomas 32 U $7,906,088

Adonal Foyle 35 U $825,497
Francisco Elson 34 U $1,700,000
Ian Mahinmi 23 U $989,670
Rasho Nesterovic 34 U $1,990,000
Patrick O’Bryant 24 U $855,189
Kyrylo Fesenko 23 R $870,000
Joe Smith 35 U $825,497
Malik Allen 32 U $1,300,000
Craig Smith 26 U $2,300,000
Josh Powell 27 U $959,111
Kurt Thomas 37 U $3,800,000
Ike Diogu 26 U $825,497
Jarron Collins 31 U $825,497
Louis Amundson 27 U $855,189
Juwan Howard 37 U $825,497
Sean May 26 U $825,497
Fabricio Oberto 35 U $1,990,000
James Singleton28 U $1,030,189
Tim Thomas 33 U $825,497

I would personally love to see us pick up Oberto, Tim Thomas or Nesterovic. We could sign them for around 2.5 million at 1 year. That contract would serve as valuable trade bait later in the year, and also those are 3 proven veterans that can fill any possible holes left by BWright/Udoh. 2.5 mil plus CJ’s 2.5 gives us about 4 mil to go after a SF

SF/SG:
Joe Alexander 23 U $2,583,360
Devean George 32 U $1,600,000
Rasual Butler 31 U $3,945,000
Jarvis Hayes 28 U $2,062,800
Bobby Simmons 30 U $11,242,666
Adam Morrison 25 R $5,257,229
*Tracy McGrady 31 U $22,483,124
Matt Barnes 30 U $1,600,000
Rodney Carney 26 U $825,497
Marquis Daniels 29 U $1,990,000
Michael Finley 37 U $194,235
Larry Hughes 31 U $160,244
Shannon Brown 24 U $1,990,000
Ronnie Brewer 25 U $2,717,161

Ime Udoka 32 U $786,650
Keith Bogans 30 U $825,497
Roger Mason 29 U $3,780,000

  • Not sure McGrady takes 4 mil…

I would be so down to sign Barnes, Brewer, Mason Jr, or Bogans. I feel that there’s is a chance they would take the 4 mil and they all add something different. Bogans plays excellent defense, Barnes is good at everything, not great at anything in particular, Mason Jr would be a great 6th man from an offensive standpoint. Brewer would just be a solid pickup, but DWright and him are basically the same player.

Curry/CJ
Ellis/WIlliams/Belll
Barnes/Wright
Lee/Wright/Udoh
Biedrins/Nesterovic/Gadzuric

That would be my preference, but if we can’t get Matt Barnes, Roger Mason Jr or Bogans off the bench would be excellent.

I know, but for some reason it keeps insinuating itself into my head.

Thabeet. Realistically, he could give us 10-13 ok minutes a night. Not even average, right now – just kinda ok. If Gadz can give us 3-4, that should be enough. There’s your big project, and big gamble. He’s still on rookie, so by the time he comes up everyone will have a better actual understanding of him. If he’s turned it around and is actually worth big bucks at that point, we’ll have an owner who won’t fear the luxury tax. (Right, Larry?)

It makes sense to make every backup an understudy. In the best case, our frontline in 4 years is Udoh and Thabeet hitting their primes just as Lee and Biedrens tail out of theirs. In the worst case, we get 13 ok minutes a game for 2 years.

yeah, it’s nuts.
