Randolph to Lure Melo to New York
For more Bay Area related news go to Bay Sports Perspective
This NBA offseason was dominated by stories of where Lebron James would sign and for a long time the New York Knicks were a front runner in that conversation. However, when Lebron went to the Heat the Knicks quickly regrouped by sendingDavid Lee to the Warriors in a sign and trade for Anthony Randolph, Roni Turiaf, and Kelenna Azubuike. At the time it seemed like a reasonable move for both sides as the Warriors got a 20/10 big man and the Knicks got high upside athleteAnthony Randolph with a few other good pieces. Little did we know what may have been a bigger reason for the trade, signing Carmelo Anthony next offseason.
Ex-Warriors Ranolph, Turiaf, and Azubuike at the Knicks press conference.
The New York Post just ran an article saying that Randolph’s performance this season will most likely determine whether or not the Knicks can lure Carmelo away from the Nuggets. With a front court of Randolph and Amare Stoudemire and a coach in Mike D’Antoni who’s up tempo style favors a scorer like Anthony putting up big numbers the Knicks could become the front runners to sign the prize of the 2011 free agent class. This is entirely dependent on Randolph further developing as a player and convincing Carmelo that the pieces of a championship contender are already in place of course.
Whether or not this play for one of the NBA’s biggest stars will work is yet to be seen but the one thing that seems certain is that there will be a lot of pressure on 21 year old Anthony Randolph in his first season in America’s biggest media market.
Good luck Anthony- You'll need it.

Those pics make me feel quite ill! Losing ‘ALL’ those guys still does not sit well with me. I would have much rather switched Biedrins in for Turiaf and Randolph…

That's what bothers me...
They didnt want to get Lee to stay.. to play centre alongside Amare.. and instead have gone for Randolph.. I know many think he might bust…but I think Randolph looked like he finally ‘got it’ as he was one of the first team members back in the Gym in Oaktown… I think this may prove to be a major mistake…. but I hope to be proven wrong…

Nobody's calling Randolph a "bust."
We’re calling him a player who isn’t as good as David Lee, who may well never be as good as David Lee.
And our new big guy Udoh is out 4 to 6months having surgery while Wright is having shoulder pains.
Beans better get outa that funk!

actually a number of people have suspected he may 'bust'..
in New York… that was the simple point I was making…. as it seems NYK do not share the same view and clearly suspect AR ‘might’ be able to do something special.
But then I dont suppose you meant to speak for all in your response. with ’We’re’.

David Lee
is 6’9". That is why he will not play center for the knicks. I wonder how Randolph will deal with the NY media. Seems like he is someone who could let it get to him.
David Lee is 6’9".
So the doubters are sure Rudolf is gonna shrink to 6’ 8" ?
Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

This season might be the first, and only, time I root for a New York team.
On a side note, did Buike match his tie to Ronny’s shirt?
The New York Post runs articles about every major free agent coming to NY.
I mean, how many “We’re the favorites for LeBron” articles did they run?
How would a Carmelo-Amare-Randolph frontcourt work?
Carmelo is a 3. Amare is a 4 with a 3’s game. Randolph is a … what? He’s too small to play center. None of those guys can defend 4s and 5s.
Amare is a 4 with a 3’s game.
Uh… Amare’s game is definitely suited for a 4, fringe 5. He rebounds like a 3 most of the time and occasionally shoots a (rather effective) mid-range jumper, but his high-low post game and lack of consistent ball-handling ability are definitely not a “3’s game.”
Fair enough.
I was thinking of rebounding, but you’re right, most of his offense game is not a 3’s game.
He just rebounds like one.
Good call.
Melo-Amare-Randolph would be a total disaster. No ball movement. No low post defense. Utter frustration. It would look great at times, but overall it would be another example of really “Bad Porn”
Sittin in my scraper watchin Oakland goin wild, ta-dow!
Unless they can lure CP3 right?
CP3/Randolph/Amare > Melo/Randolph/Amare.

AR is going to BLOW UP in NY
Blow up into a star or blow up and fizzle. Time will tell, but the kid has skillz no doubt. Funny how we want edamare for AR and now there on the same team.
Lee is NOT the savior of this team and
Riley has made bad decisions starting with the now injured draft pick, and with B Wright. I’m not hatin cause I will be a Knicks Fan now as well as GSW… but not giving our team a chance to play while healty hurts.
Lee
is a major upgrade over Randolph as of right now. The draft pick got injured on his own after he was drafted although I didn’t really enjoy the thought of Udoh on the team at first. I personally think Riley is doing a fair job.
Warriors.
No one is saying Lee is a savior. Does he make us better now and for the immediate future? Yes. What bad decisions has Riley made. The dude has basically made really good basketball decisions since he took over and done things no one in this fanbase or in some of the basketball media thought possible. in a calendar year he was able to unload to awful contract with Jackson and Magette, Draft Curry (the now corner stone player of the franchise), get an All-Star durable 4 who rebounds and can log big minutes while staying healthy for a very reasonable deal in this free agent market and only giving away as of right now bench players. He has basically put together a team that has a chance to improve significantly and are still young while also getting our cap in a workable situation to be able to get a big Free Agent in the coming years.

I look at that photo of the new Knicks and think “BFD.”
Hitting 74 on the radar gun but hitting my spots.

LOL
If all of them start the season healthy, Randolph plays anywhere near his potential, and if bringing them in helps lure ‘Melo to the Knicks after next season, then I would say it’s a ginormously BFD!!!
To put this all in perspective...
Yes, Randolph oozes with potential, which is something that is recognized not only in the Bay, but also around the league, but let’s keep in mind he was drafted 14th overall. Thirteen other teams passed on him before he got to the W’s. Hell, Ike Diogu was drafted 9th (yes, I know there are other circumstances that come into play).
I still maintain that Randolph>Lee on potential, but Lee>Randolph right now. I’m not completely sold on the trade… maybe 40% in favor, but in then end, maybe we look back on this and say we go the known quantity and live with it.
I agree
but to be honest i don’t think we were developing Randolph enough. That being said if he went to team that put more effort into development and played a more structured game he could be a star. Its kind of sad to see him go to a team like NY where he will probably play C, and be given a bunch of freedom on the offensive end where he will try and do to much and make a bunch of mistakes. I really wish the best for him though, I hope he can figure it out

I don’t know that you could really say if we developed him enough or not. The dude was injured 3 times in 2 seasons, and couldn’t keep himself on the floor long enough to actually log good growth/experience minutes. When a guy is that stunted basketball IQ wise, makes it considerably tougher to develop.
