As we all now know, Peter Guber and Joseph Lacob are now the new owners of our beloved Golden State Warriors. My initial reaction was heartbreak, knowing that the third richest man in America, Larry Ellison will not be buying the team. Looking around this site, my fellow GSoM brethren also shared the same feelings I had about these two new owners.
BUT WAIT, I then realized, we're not all looking at the big picture here! We shouldn't be sad that Larry Ellison isn't the new owner, we should be happy that Chris Cohan isn't the owner anymore! Ok, we didn't get the guy we all wanted, but isn't ANYTHING better than Chris Cohan at this point?
Doesn't it say something that these guys went above and beyond what this team is worth just to acquire it? Doesn't that show how much they wanted this team? Maybe they'll even put that effort into WINNING, something us Warriors fans haven't seen in almost two decades. And who knows, none of us know anything about these new owners, maybe they'll actually do a good job. They already have some sports franchise ownership experience. Guber's Mandalay Entertainment Company owns numerous Triple A, Double A, and Single A baseball teams and Lacob has ties to the Bay Area and is even a (now former) partial owner of the Boston Celtics. Let's give these guys a chance before we pass judgment on how they are as the owners of the Warriors.
So my fellow Warriors fan, REJOICE! Chris Cohan can't hurt our team anymore! Keep ya head up, this is a day of celebration, not a day of gloom! We have years ahead for some GREAT Warriors Basketball! Who knows, maybe this day, Thursday, July 15th, 2010 will be a day we will all remember 30 years down the line as the day our fortunes turned around and the rebuilding process began for OUR Golden State Warriors! Today is the beginning of a new chapter for this team!
