3 small forwards to look at
Since Matt Barnes is gone and these guys don't have any offers I think we should go after 1 of these 3 between Jarvis Hayes, Trenton Hassell and Bobby Simmons. This is just a quick write up to see what you guys think of these guys. I chose to do these guys cause I feel like there the most likley to come here
Trenton Hassell: He plays with all his heart every single night and is a defensive role player who can guard 3 positions. His problem is that he is awful on offense, absolutely awful. I think he'd just come in and provide some leadership and play defense. He is a pure hustle guy and nothing more but at this point I'd rather take that than nothing. He rarely turns the ball over but almost never gets to the line. He always is matched against the other teams best player and does a sound job for the most part. Won't block shots or get steals but will play his man well. He's 6'5 and 230 lbs and is 31 so only a 1 year deal would be the best case contract wise.
Jarvis Hayes: A decent role player, not starter material at all but can shoot well. He plays on the perimeter a lot and doesn't drive too much. He is a solid defender. For the stat guys he had a better TS than Melo,Gay,Peja and Josh Howard. He's not a good passer at all and his assists to TO's is not very good. He's 6'7 220 and 28 years old so he's not too old and and has good size. He is good at guarding strong SF's but struggles against quick guards. He's basically your typical average role player
Bobby Simmons: The one time MIP was hurt a lot so he never lived up to his potential but is a solid role player. He's got a good jumper and can hit 3's well and has a good mid range game. He's a good athlete and a solid defender. Not much of a rebounder or passer though. Off the bench he could probably just run the floor and hit jumpers and play solid defense. Again nothing great but these are some of the 3 best SF's left.
Some other notable free agents: Acie Law, Michael Finley, Flip Murray, Tim Thomas, Joey Graham, Rasual Butler, Jerry Stackhouse, Kurt Thomas, Earl Barron, Eddie House, Adonal Foyle (!), Rodney Carney, Mustafa Shakur (I like his name..), Ime Udoka, Richard Jefferson, Josh Howard
So there are still some guys left. I personally like the idea of Udoka who is a pure defender and doesn't require lots of minutes and can hit 3's and Earl Barron who was good for the Knicks averaging a double double in limited time.
Random: Bobby Simmons looks like Greg Monroe

I'd like Acie Law and Earl Barron.

I would go for Rasual Butler he averaged 12 points a game last year
He is 6’ 7’ and has some similar skills as Morrow.
Rasual Butler sucks

all those guys suck. We’re trying to pick from the scrap heap right now. I’d rather hit the undrafteds and the D-league where you get lucky and find the occasional gem.
If Nellie stays, he is very good at finding these guys.
yea same here, thats why I think all this talk about the backup PG and backup SF roles is a little overblown. Those spots will probably play a combined 10-15 minutes per game behind Curry, Monta, Williams, and Wright. Its not totally irrelevant, but with this team’s history of finding quality undrafted FAs and D-leaguers I don’t think its should be a major issue and we shouldn’t be looking at guys like Rasual Butler.

At back up point, Jeremy Lin (this kid knows how to play) would be ideal followed by Acie Law (who wasn’t too happy being traded away from GSW in the first place).
At SF, we can go small with Reggie Williams as back-up, but after that I like the energy/experience/defense of Devean George. So, Devean George as the 3rd String SF?
Stephen Curry/Jeremy Lin
Monta Ellis/Reggie Williams/Charlie Bell
Dorell Wright/Reggie Williams/Devean George
David Lee/Brandan Wright/Anthony Tolliver
Andris Biedrins/Dan Gadzuric/Ekpe Udoh
We could also use a signing at the back up center (Gadzuric???) or else we’ll be kicking ourselves over our 6th pick for the first half of the season and possibly longer.

Well I think we will be kicking ourselves over the 6th pick anyway
Aminu, George and Monroe were there….
This is my sig, what do I do with it?
It’s starting to hurt more and more seeing Monroe have a solid summer league while Udoh rode the bench.

but what if nellie uses Law at SF again?
remember, we not only have to acquire talent we have to restrict Nellie from doing stupid things
Goal: 8 seed!
its funny to me how u have Ekpe Udoh our 3rd string center. Hes not a center and he is better than u think. I dont know why most warriors fans dont like him. He brings defense and rebounding, thats what the warriors need. Look at the contribution Serge Ibaka is making in OKC. Come on show Udoh some more respect.
The reason I had him as 3rd string is cause he is going to be out for the first half of the season. Once he gets playing time I think he will get minutes at the 4 and 5, and be the second option at center. Also, I am reserving judgment on how good he is until he plays significant minutes, therefore he isn’t better or worse than what I think. I had no intentions of disrespecting him before he’s played a single minute in the NBA.

From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo
For Matt Barnes-to-Toronto, a league source says, “The sign and trade (scenario) is dead.” Blamed on a “miscalculation” somewhere in talks.
so does this mean he’s still a FA? Or it was an option that was being explored by the Magic but failed?
As far as FA’s go,
Flip Murray would be a solid pick-up because he is pretty much like CJ Watson minus the quickness.
If we’re really committed to this new attitude of being a defensive/ rebounding team, then id look at Ime Udoka
For PF/C id go with Tolliver just as a safety blank. We already know what he’s capable of.
You didn’t mention Roger Mason Jr. He’s more of a SG but can play the SF.I think as big of a concern is the back up center, I would like one that could shoot a jump shot thus allowing Lee to play in the post where he is most effective.
Mason falls more in the combo guard category than the combo wing. I generally think a lot of wings are interchangeable, but Mason isn’t a strong rebounder and isn’t a physical defender, I wouldn’t mind another shooter on the team, but I don’t particularly like the idea of having Curry, Monta and Mason on the court at the same time. I also think he’ll either go to a contender or sign a multi year deal likely out of our price range.

I'm not sure we need another SF.
Right now Reggie Williams is our primary backup at both 2 and 3, and that’s just fine.
Barnes has earned the right to be the first swingman off the bench, at worst. I’m not sure he fits that bill here.
Plus, on our team Nellie would try to run him out there as a 4 instead of Wright.
Right now Reggie Williams is our primary backup at both 2 and 3, and that’s just fine?
Having a Dleaguer with about 30 games of NBA experience as your primary backup for two positions is “just fine”? If that don’t work out what’s your plan B ??

I agree with Ronaldinho
not sure if it’s for the same reasons, though.
I’d rather save as much salary as possible ($13M expiring + whatever cap room we have left at this point) and put it toward one “impact” free agent next summer, even if that means filling out the rest of the squad with replacement level players. Reggie can play 2/3. If he gets hurt, well, that sucks. But replacing him with another $3M contract player isn’t going to make us world beaters anyway. We appear to have a solid 6-deep team right now. If B. Wright and Udoh contribute this season, that makes us 8-deep. Add one more free agent next year and another draft pick, that’s potentially 10-deep. Pretty good for an NBA team.
I’m actually very much on board with this. I really, really doubt he’ll fall into our price range, but if he gets desperate enough to take a 1 year deal I’d love to have him. If he’s totally healthy and plays well the team could be pretty good or we’d at least have a useful piece to trade at the deadline. If not then we still clear that money next offseason, we give more minutes to Wright, and we move up in the lottery.

I like Josh Howard
if the price is right… anyone know what he’s asking?
Is he actually going to get what he wants?
He didn’t exactly have a great year last season and I don’t see anyone knocking down his door.
We can always try to convince him to take a short term deal to try and raise his value on the FA market. Would be a better pick up than Barnes, for sure.
Also wouldn’t mind the Warriors picking up Acie Law to back up the point. Get some experience while allowing Lin to develop.
Boston and Chicago are after him
It’d be hard to get him just based on that
This is my sig, what do I do with it?
Depends
Not really familiar with what he prefers. Both Chicago and Boston are set at the SF position and he would be a back up on a playoff caliber team.
On the other hand, he could come to a team, like the warriors, and recieve more playing time.
Wouldn’t hurt to kick the tires on Howard. If they feel he can return to form, he’d be a good addition.
I think backup PG is a bigger position of need
followed by a back up center with size to actually play center.
Pro-Skub for life
Gadzuric has the size to play center. Are you talking about a 3rd stringer (or someone who will push Gadzuric to his rightful spot as a 5th or 6th big?)_
I think he was just dismissing bringing back Tolliver, because he isn't big, nor good.

Is Gadz healthy enough to count on going into the season?
I thought there were questions about his ability to get on the floor …
Yeah
I’d like some Gadzuric insurance.

We need a wing player who's going to demand little money and little playing time
Rodney Carney.
With the left over cash snag Arroyo, Alston or Flip Murray as our backup PG. As for backup bigmen we should sign Tolliver and still have money to get Kwame Brown over here.
rather have graham or butler
than any of these FORMER NETS. they just came off a team that was one of the worst in NBA history, and granted I know they suffered some injuries, but they clearly aren’t the type of guys that are going to make our team better.
Is Don Nelson going to Hawaii forever now?
However...
Butler actually had a couple of skills that were put to use this past season. He’s a perimeter shooter and a lengthy defender. Not necessarily a good defender, but not terrible because of his reach. He’s also played in 164 games the past 2 seasons, whereas:
Hayes missed almost 40 games last season
Hassell has missed over 100 games the past 3 seasons
Simmons missed nearly 60 games last season
Not to mention that neither Hassell or Simmons have been effective players since 2006. Hayes was a decent role player, but looking at him from last season, he’s definitely not the same either. I don’t know if that’s a product of playing for that team or not, but I definitely wouldn’t want him on my team.
Is Don Nelson going to Hawaii forever now?
We should go after Marquis Daniels.
He is the best remaining free agent in my opinion. He has(relatively) enough height to match with Durant, and he also can play a bit of a distributor and play-maker role.
are you a nets homer?
theres a reason they are so horrible you know that right? its cause they have guys like these..
