Shannon Brown...

Not too long ago, we were a team with way too many guards on the roster, but losing CJ Watson and Anthony Morrow, we are left with just Charlie Bell, Stephen Curry, and Monta Ellis in the guard spots. Shannon Brown is a player with great potential (thankfully the lakers have not seen it) and will fit in beautifully in our offense. He averaged just 8 ppg this year but it was in just 20 minutes per game because Phil Jackson find Fisher better (why?). He is an explosive athlete with a decent jumpshot and a reasonably good defender.

Look into his eyes, he wants to be a Warrior. (via SkieBaby)

Star-divide

In LA, Brown was not given sufficient playing time behind Fisher even though he did outperform him consistently. In Nellie's offense, these type of players have the ability to thrive where in other teams it would not be possible. With Monta and Curry we have one of the best backcourts in the league, adding Brown will make it even stronger. He has the ability to run the floor, finish at the rim, and put it mid-long range shots. He will be be a very big presence coming off the bench behind Monta.

I'll be honest, I hate the Lakers, with a passion. The only player that I could stand was Brown because he was the only player who played the game well, without the flops or shows, the whining to the refs, and the arrogance (yes i am directly referring to kobe). The Warriors play the Lakers 4 times each season, so we get a pretty good look at their players, and Brown has obvious potential.

It is also a great deal for us because his salary from last season was just 2 million so a David Lee sized contract would not need to be given. The Warriors will also have enough to look for other players to fill the center and small forward spots.

But LA and other teams are also on the move to sign him so we better hurry!

Did you miss

that we got Jeremy Lin?…I think we’re done looking for guards now

by eugthehuge on Jul 21, 2010 2:44 PM PDT reply actions

yea i saw..

forgot to mention him, but charlie bell is not a very strong player and i think brown can fill the backup SG role better

by dubsRunCA on Jul 21, 2010 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions

It’d be really fun to have him. But he’d be overpriced and his only real strength is driving to the rim. I think we’re gonna see Reggie fill the 2 and 3, essentially be a swingman. He’s fun to watch, but not the best option out there.

by eugthehuge on Jul 21, 2010 2:54 PM PDT up reply actions

in the second half of the season he developed a 3-point shot which got up to around 35%. i do agree that there are slightly better options out there, but he would fit very well into this team

by dubsRunCA on Jul 21, 2010 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I think he might be more athletic but not better as a overall player. Reggie can play both the 2 and 3, which in our case is more valuable than just a guy that can fill in at the 1 and 2. Reggie has better play making, IQ, and more creative when it comes to scoring. I would love to see Shannon slam it at the Oracle but I just don’t think its exactly what the team needs and would be wayyyy overpriced.

by eugthehuge on Jul 21, 2010 6:46 PM PDT up reply actions

probably not.

but they play differently and it doesnt hurt to have both. The move doesn’t add a huge star but just adds some depth where we don’t have much at the moment

Are you kidding? Reggie is way better.

no way Lin can fill our guard needs. Look at him as a practice dummy for the first year and if he develops maybe a player next year?

Lights please, lights please, turn off the lights.

He's a really bad player.

Terrible player

hidden because he played with Kobe and Pau.

He jumps high but thats it.

by saint.dee on Jul 21, 2010 2:58 PM PDT reply actions

That about sums it up. He has improved a bit since his first couple of seasons — from absolutely godawful to just bad. Somehow, for all his high jumping, he doesn’t really rebound, block shots, or draw fouls; and he doesn’t finish at the rim well enough to score with efficiency. I’ve never noticed him to be a particularly ace defender, either. There’s really nothing to recommend him, beyond his two rings and the fact that he seems like a nice enough guy (compared to Kobe).

There will be no extra point!

I'm tempted

I think he would be good on an uptempo team like ours. But we have greater need at backup center right now. I’d rather put our money there for quality.

I really don't understand WHAT this team is doing...

1. we have traded an entire bench of players who are just geting to be experienced and perhaps very good!

2. we pay a vet 80 mil who is good, but will in no way be the primary reason we have a playoff season.

3. the we get a rookie (J Lin); a #6 draft pick that can’t even make it to summer league; a so so 3 DW; keep totally injury proned BW; and you guys think this team is destined to be a winner?

This off season is insane! If the new owners are down with this, then hey … good luck!

by deja8 on Jul 21, 2010 4:13 PM PDT reply actions

1. how many times have we heard players with upside or potential, it was time for a change

2. and in that change we got a solid PF who will get numerous double-doubles and IF we do make the playoffs will be a huge reason, there will be no primary reason within this team rather a collective effort

3. Jeremy Lin held his own against John Wall, epke udoh got injured and THATS why he didnt make the summer league and dorell wright adds the defense so many critics have been hammering for

This off season was MUCH better than later off seasons. Hell we got rid of Maggette’s huge contract to start off.

by eugthehuge on Jul 21, 2010 4:40 PM PDT up reply actions

i agree with @eugthehuge …
1. its sad to see them go but its great that we made changes.

2. David Lee is a solid 20-10 player that can really help with our weak rebounding.

3. The Jeremy Lin deal is great because we got a smart, young player with a high basketball IQ that plays with passion and a desire to win. The Ekpe Udoh pick is a questionable one but the injury is really depressing considering how many injuries we have each year.

I love getting rid of Maggette’s contract and i do think that overall we have done pretty well

by dubsRunCA on Jul 21, 2010 4:46 PM PDT up reply actions

As has been said he’s just not very good and if we’re gonna add another 2 guard type player I’d like for it to be a wing that can shoot well from outside and handle the 3 position too. This team doesn’t really need another raw athlete who isn’t all that good at basketball.

Let's review your positives about this season in 2/2011

there will be complaints galore on this Blog!

How many injuries do we already have? I count 3…

AR, Ronny, Morrow, CJ, and Buike will kill us when they visit!

LOL

-there will always be complaints with the Warriors.

-Ekpe Udoh is depressing but Lee will be back well before the season starts

-Im looking forward to seeing the former dubs

whether they were former Warriors or not. David Lee would kill us when he visits.

Knicks did beat us when they visited last year, I don't think

AND if they did, we beat them in NY when we hardly beat anyone else, with DLee trying to beat up on Curry! LOL

by deja8 on Jul 21, 2010 6:22 PM PDT reply actions

That's not my point

YOU brought up players killing our team. EVERYONE kills our team. Not trading a player just because they might come back to beat us idiotic, especially if the trade makes our team better.
The team probably didn’t trade for David Lee because of the game. They traded for him because of his sustained excellent play throughout the season, and his career to a lesser extent.

He Runs and Jumps

and that’s it. Low BB IQ.

He’ll last one more contract in the League then have to go to Europe.

I live in LA and Lakers fans don’t even care if he leaves….and we ALL know how homers always over value their own teams players…

by joegiant on Jul 21, 2010 7:24 PM PDT reply actions

Charlie Bell >>> Shannon Brown.
Charlie Bell at least provides good 3 point shooting, and good defense. I’m not sure Brown provides anything.

No......

It’s very easy to look good when you’re on the court & opposing defenses are focused on Koby & Gasol. Most role players from championships fail to carry over those stats when they leave via free agency & the reason is obvious.

Only if he’s cheap then go for it.
