Don't understand the Pargo signing

The Warriors have signed two guards in the past week (Jeremy Lin and Jannero Pargo) and still don't have a backup point guard. I question Lin's future in the NBA and Pargo is a like a very poor version of Monta Ellis. I understand the Lin signing (marketing) but the Pargo deal makes no sense to me.
