O PLEASE

DONT DO IT RILEY. Don’t get David Lee. David Lee can’t play a lick of defense. Sure he rebounds but what good is that if he still can’t defend.

Even if it means getting rid of Monta Ellis?

What are you going to do with Randolph, Wright, and Udoh tho? I say Wright and Randolph will be better than Lee if they pan out.

Rid of?

Rid of? The best offensive player on the Warriors almost in living memory and you say “RID OF”?

Please. If you find flaws to the point you’d like to trade him, say “trade one of our most valuable assets.”

He’s not the best offensive player on the team.

Shouldn’t we expect his defense to improve if he doesn’t have to guard Centers?

by superk1ng on Jul 4, 2010 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

I say do it

I dont think Monta belongs here anymore. We have Curry. Hes our franchise player now. We still have plenty of talented guards. We need some bigs now who can score on the block

by dontbanme on Jul 4, 2010 5:13 PM PDT reply actions

Just because Curry took Monta's place as the franchise player doesn't mean that it's okay to trade Monta.

Monta can still help the team out as a role player. He does better as the 2nd/3rd option anyways, let’s see how he does with a fully healthy team first (instead of that 6-man D-League team we had to work with in 09-10).

Anthony Randolph, Brandan Wright, Ekpe Udoh, Andris Biedrins, Ronny Turiaf, Anthony Tolliver, Chris Hunter, Vladimir Radmanovic and Dan Gadzuric are enough big men to help us out in the paint when they’re all healthy. Just the depth alone will make a big difference. We need to keep Monta in this situation because he’s one of the best in the league at slashing and penetrating. With a healthy team, he won’t have to chuck up shots anymore and can pass the ball to guys like Curry, Azubuike, Morrow, Randolph etc. who can help out in scoring.

If we trade for David Lee, he’ll just be scoring points that Udoh/Randolph/Wright/ etc could have scored and grab rebounds that guys like Biedrins and Turiaf could get. The downside is that Curry won’t have a deadly scorer like Monta to help him out in the backcourt. It would put too much on Curry’s shoulders which will cause him to chuck a lot. Yeah, Curry will have shooters like Morrow and Azubuike to pass to, but those guys can’t really score at will like Monta can. We need the depth at the guard positions, too. Keeping Monta will allow us to maintain a good bench with Morrow and Williams. This team is incredibly deep when they’re healthy.

David Lee. Stat Stuffer. But does he lead his team to more wins? I think he fills up the score sheet because their is no one else on the Knicks like really Al Harrington, Eddy Curry? The warriors always make him look like he’s a all-star. But I think him and Curry could be a good combo. We already have Randolph and Wright tho, so i say keep Ellis.

Dont do it!

We don’t need a no defense big that is basically Troy Murphy esk. Where would he play? Center? He does? We have tons of those! NO!

I didn’t know Troy Murphy averaged 20.6 points on a .584 TS% last season. Per 36 minutes in the last four years, Murphy is averaging 10.3 rebounds and Lee is averaging 11.8.

DON'T TRADE MONTA!

The Warriors are one nutty team! Get great players then trade for = or below what they already have!

Keep our young guns, and just look for what is missing! Right now that is a 3, NOT LEE! On a NY team that was as talented as GSW, he didn’t take them anywhere… so where does he take us? WE have 4’s and 5’s that are as good or potentially better than HIM!

I sincerely hope, this trade does not take place!

by deja8 on Jul 4, 2010 5:45 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

the term “great player” is an oxymoron on a 20some win team.

i’m not a fan of the trade either since Lee is as bad as Monta on defense (both give up 0.98 ppp 1 on 1 & their teams do worse defensively when they are on the floor) & i still want to give BW & AR this season to show what they can do, but calling Monta great when his 1st time as the best player led to 26 wins (which we can probably all agree was inflated by the “Reggie Williams & the d-league all-stars get Nellie the record” run at the end) then bashing Lee who got the team 29 wins (with arguably less talent – anyone as good as Curry or Maggette were last season on that team?) just seems a tad foolish.

by homer simpson on Jul 4, 2010 6:07 PM PDT up reply actions

The team wasn't healthy last season.

How do you expect the Warriors to win when Anthony Tolliver and Chris Hunter are their starting big men? How do you expect the Warriors to win when they only have 6 healthy players?

With Curry proving himself as a great player, Monta can now play as the 2nd option, which is what he excels at. With the team getting healthier next season, Monta can now be more conservative with his shots which will help him score more efficiently like how he was in the 07-08 season.

I still have faith in Monta.

by Precise Films Productions on Jul 4, 2010 6:16 PM PDT up reply actions

missing the point. i’m not trying to trash Monta & i’m not a fan of Lee.

but AGAIN, David Lee had even less talent on that NYKs team than Monta had this season even with all the injuries. no one on the NYKs played as well as Curry did or Maggette did this past season. their next best player was Galinari. yet deja8 bashes Lee for only getting the NYKs to 29 wins….. doesn’t that sound wrong?

and this trade isn’t about Monta anyway. if you really think about it, this trade is an indictment on what Riley thinks about AR & BW b/c there is no other reason to trade for Lee if he believed in those two. it’s harder to get a big than it is a SG. if AR & BW fail, it’ll hurt the playoff chances of the dubs during Curry’s 20s. getting Lee & trading AR & BW for swing players would be better than having Monta & no PF (w/in this imaginary scenario where AR & BW don’t improve.).

Don't do it!

We don’t need Lee. We already have 3 young PF’s , and at least one of them could end up being better overall than Lee. He stinks on defense, and he’s 27. He’s not a great player by any means. Before last year, I thought the dude was pretty much soft garbage. I’ve always thought of him as a guy who fills the stat sheet, but it doesn’t really matter because his team always gets blown out anyways. I’d rather get Chandler, Walker, and Eddy Curry. That way we’ll have a chunk of space next year and we can snatch a guy like Gasol or Horford.

by duballers23 on Jul 4, 2010 6:11 PM PDT reply actions

We don't need him on a team like ours...

He would be better for a team like OKC that needs a big man that can rebound, run the floor, & just do the dirty work that can make him a game changer.

by iHypeTV on Jul 4, 2010 6:13 PM PDT reply actions

Not for Randolph, no way. You can have Monta, but Randolph is too much. Maybe if David Lee learns how to play defense…

by DubsFan408 on Jul 4, 2010 6:26 PM PDT reply actions

To add on: I actually don’t want David Lee anymore. I know he scores efficiently and rebounds well, but his D sucks too much….And I just remembered Riley saying to Randolph, “I’m not going to trade you unless there’s a really good player on the other end.” Uh oh.

by DubsFan408 on Jul 4, 2010 6:33 PM PDT up reply actions

There hasn't been anything that suggests the Knicks want Monta anyways

Riley may want Lee, but we haven’t heard that the Knicks want Monta. Somebody might just be hearing things and then throwing trade ideas out there. The three way deal now sounds like it was a bunch of bologne, so this one may be the same. The Knicks may have wanted Monta in the past, but it sounds like they want a point guard. Monta is not that. Tony Parker or Arenas seem more realistic at this point. Stoudemire is probably going to have a lot of say in this, so he could be telling the Knicks to work out a trade for Parker, and then I’ll sign. I don’t think Amare would be too thrilled with Monta as his point guard, since the Knicks really have no options besides Tony Douglas at this point. A s&n of Lee for Parker could happen, or a Parker for Curry (huge expiring), Chandler, and Walker/Douglas. That seems fairly likely because it sounds like Parker wants to go to NY, and the Spurs really like George Hill. The Spurs probably know that Parker won’t re-sign, and they probably want to get some good value in return. There’s no doubt that the Knicks would prefer Parker over Ellis.

I'm on the fence

but i think i’d rather just keep Randolph and Wright and let them develop. I have a feeling the Warriors are going to have a very bad season once again. We don’t need David Lee until we are ready to make the playoffs, which won’t be for another year.

I think Lee is an upgrade over Biedrins. I wouldn’t consider giving up Ellis and/or Randolph for Lee. I feel like Lee’s poor defense will be less apparent next to a lengthy, shot blocking PF, such as Randolph/Udoh.

Seems it doesn’t matter what Riley or the Warriors do, they’re gonna get crapped on regardless. No win situation for everybody. “We get killed on the boards every game! We need big men!” Then they go out and try to get bigger and still no love. And don’t everybody shout at once: "They’re not going after the “right” big men!" The power players of the league are difficult to come by and a team would be foolish to allow them to get away. I’m sure if the Dubs went out and acquired Dwight Howard, half of GSoM would be up in arms claiming he doesn’t have a “go to” post move.

by ChronicMasticator on Jul 4, 2010 8:45 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

We don't need a power forward. That's the thing.

We need a small forward if anything. We are too small at that position. And in terms of bigs, we need a center (although Biedrins should get another shot to show his old self), not a power forward who can’t defend a lick. Yeah he can rebound and score well, but I’m sure Randolph/Wright/Udoh can do the same if they got the consistent minutes. Plus, they play defense. You should also take in to mind tha Lee is 27 years old. I’m pretty sure at least one of the 3 power forwards we have will turn out just as good if not better than Lee at those things, plus being better on defense already.

Yes to Randolph + Monta for Lee

Three reasons why this trade would be good for the Warriors:

1) Randolph has not really shown any consistent contribution to playing team basketball in two years as a Warrior. I think fans like him because he makes maybe two spectacular and athletic plays a game, but they are usually countered by his turnovers and foul trouble.

2) Monta takes away some of Curry’s effectiveness in the game with his ball hugging and stalling of the offense. Do you remember how nicely the Warriors did last year toward the end when Monta was out for a few games and Curry was running things? Two small guards are not good for defensive purposes.

3) Lee addresses one of the major needs for the Warriors: Rebounding. Aren’t the Warriors dead last in the league in rebounding? The PPG that the team would lose by not having Monta would be made up by Lee, plus the huge gain would be in rebounding. Lee last year, 20.7 PPG and 11.7 RPG. How could Monta match that?

by Roan on Jul 4, 2010 11:54 PM PDT reply actions

1. He also has not been given a fair shot and when he has gotten fair minutes he HAS produced very well. Being jerked around like he has probably wouldn’t help any player
2. Who plays on and off the ball is the coaches choice, Nellie wanted Monta on the ball so this is a coaching issue. And if Curry doesn’t want to take over cause Monta is the vet that’s Curry’s fault. Do you also remember who we played when Monta was out? All below .500 team we played without him we won but lost ALL our games without him against good teams
3. If all our bigs are healthy rebounding will be much better, Lee can’t play defense. That simple and he’s not a center which we need more than a 4

you don't like Randolph

but the one good thing he does is rebounding and blocking shots. Lee isn’t even a shot blocker.

by Evanz on Jul 5, 2010 9:07 AM PDT up reply actions

Yes to Monta + Randolph for Lee

I don’t dislike Randolph, is just that he has not lived up to everyone’s expectations in two years as a Warrior. One more think about him, he does’t really have a consistent offense and he is not a guy to go to, he is a liability when the game is on the line. One of my main points in getting Lee would be that Udoh, a rebound specialist, can back up both Lee or Biedrins when they rest, that way you would have two good rebounding bodies on the floor all the time. Remember, the Warriors need Rebounding badly, how many times last year other teams got two, three, and a times four, offensive rebounds that resulted in their points, just because the Warriors could not get a simple rebound?

Randolph is a favorite with most Warrior fans, he is a nice guy, but I think in a sign and trade deal with the Knicks they would want more than just Monta in return. Hopefully they could take Wright instead.

At the biginning of the season the Warriors will need to have, at least on the roster, something to show that will give everyone hopes that there will be a good, substantial chance for improvement, not business as usual with the same roster. The trading away of Maggette is not enough, we need one stablished talented player to join the Warriors in order to help win many more games and have a chance to get in the playoffs.
