Monta + Quiet Storm + Beans for Granger + TJ Ford(expiring contract) - you listening, Riley/Rowell?

SF Gate Article

I commented on some of the other fanshots, but if the Dubs biggest need is a top notch wing player/bonafide shooter, what better guy to set your sights on than Danny Granger? Big time scorer, can shoot the lights out and also drive and draw a foul to get to the line. His scoring production match up with Monta's, but he's a helluva better outside threat than Ellis.

My suggestion: ship Monta, CJ, and Beans for Granger and TJ Ford or even Tinsley, both decent backup PGs with expiring contracts. Maybe throw in Hansbrough too. The salary numbers match up pretty well. We would get the all-star wing player we need with another expiring contract and the Pacers would get the explosive shooting guard, a solid PG who can start, and a rebounding and defensive big man.

David Lee would be a good upgrade in the rebounding department, but even though he hustles and does a lot of dirty work down low, I don't think the Warriors would improve that much with him in the lineup. He's not a proven winner and isn't the type of guy who is going to make the players around him better.

Pretty impressive squad on paper if this trade happened:

PG: Curry/Ford(or Tinsley)

SG: Buike/Williams/Bell

SF: Granger/Morrow/Randolph

PF: Wright/Udoh/Radmonovic

C: Turiaf/Gadzuric

Curry, Buike, and Granger would be locked in starters and you can have any combination of Randolph, Wright, Turiaf, and Udoh at the 4 and 5. Solid.

how many teams have a "true" center?

let’s opt kid ourselves. 80% of this league don’t have a true center in their starting lineup.

The Pacers aren’t going to do this trade. They’re not giving up Danny Granger for Monta Ellis. They don’t want Andris Biedrins and his huge contract when they have Roy Hibbert. The point guard they are looking for is not C.J. Watson.

Terrible front court

that’s going to get injured 20 games into the season. Ellis+Biedrins is way too much for Granger. Granger is no better than Monta. The only way I’d do it is Monta for Granger straight up.

yeah but Granger and cap space to pick up a free agent next year is worth it

i’m looking long term here. i guess you don’t have much faith in our 4s and 5s huh? Like Beans is the answer! lol

Unsurprisingly, none of these proposed trades involve Danny Granger, their franchise player.

There will be no extra point!

Unsuprisingly, their fans value Monta more than we do….

by myk on Jul 5, 2010 5:38 PM PDT up reply actions

You mean ‘cos they’re willing to give up ol’ leadfooted Troy Murphy and a replaceable scrub like Brandon Rush for him?

I think most GSoMers would rate Monta’s value about that level or even a bit higher.

There will be no extra point!

I dunno

he’s pretty comparable to JR Smith.

Inefficient, overrated scorers

though I don’t know how Smith’s defense is. I do know, though, that he has had more than 1 year in his career with great scoring efficiency.

The Warriors are not doing any trades involving Biedrins unless they get a legit center back

If it was up to me I wouldn’t even trade him. I would love to see him like he was a few years back. I am against trading Biedrins.

exactly

If this could be the year where everyone (or atleast most everyone) is healthy throughout the year, then we could talk about trading monta or randolph or andris next year if need be. But do not trade andris or AR4.

by Morrow is wet!!! on Jul 5, 2010 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions

plus Biedrins value is really low right now. there’s no point in trading him when he’d be nothing more than a contract off the books without any good players in return.

legit center?

how many teams in the league have a legit center? the center position has evolved into more of a “big man who can rebound and block shots” type player, no matter what his size.

AGREED - Never played with a true PF

If they finally gave him a solid PF to play with he would be a much better pro prospect a la Perkins. When BD, Monta, JRich, and Capt Jack were out perimeter defenders, he was constantly in foul trouble. Beans should stay but Moped has worn out his welcome. Trade now while his value is still high for a legit 2/3 who can defend premium wing players.

Oh I see the hidden genius here.

Not a legit squad on paper, in fact that squad would probably finish with as many wins as we had last year. Which means a lottery pick, which means you have a legit center that will be in the draft next year that can come in and be a double double machine, which would make us a 7th seed in 2 years. Thats the plan right?

by myk on Jul 5, 2010 5:35 PM PDT reply actions

dude, who said this would make us an instant playoff team?

and you’re implying that our team as it is now would do better than a team with the Granger trade? let’s not be facetious here. This franchise is 3, maybe 4 years from even being considered a playoff team. Right now, its about making moves to position themselves in gradually building a team with quality talent and rid of useless, overpriced contracts that are just anchoring us down.
We don’t want to be 7th/8th seed anymore. We want to be top 4 in the West. You think keeping Beans(aka the washed up, charity stripe monster) and Monta(the moped-riding, no-Defense, Mr. Me scorer) will usher us stop the West standings? don’t think so.
I’m not a genius, I just think this is a logical trade to put the Dubs org in a better position in the coming years.

terrible, why? because you like a shoot happy tweener guard and a disappointing center who is a hideous FT shooter?

i never said this was an end all trade that would make us a playoff contender. we are way farr off from that.

We Believe!!!

by crossphaded on Jul 5, 2010 10:40 PM PDT up reply actions

We're horrible at center.

If Beans can return to form, he’s far to valuable to be a throw in here. Turiaf and Gadz are not NBA-quality starting bigs.

by Ronaldinho on Jul 6, 2010 9:46 AM PDT up reply actions

we could try to trade brandan wright aka bust for Brendan Haywood.

at least we get a dood that could put up 10 and 10 with 2 blocks that could hold down the paint. lol

Why the hell is Randolph a 3rd string SF?

by DubsFan408 on Jul 5, 2010 8:52 PM PDT reply actions

Read the last paragraph, dude

I didn’t really list the projected roster in any kind of order, but I did say 1-3 are a lock and you can have any combo of the guys I listed at the 4 and 5. I wouldn’t “bury” Randolph as 3rd string, come on buddy.

We Believe!!!

by crossphaded on Jul 5, 2010 10:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Aha didn’t see that there, my bad. But yeah, Randolph should definitely get huge minutes in the 4-5 gap, considering Turiaf isn’t starting center material.

by DubsFan408 on Jul 5, 2010 10:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree.

This would never happen. Indiana would not trade Granger unless it was for another top 10 top 15 player in the league. Even then, why would they trade a great player like Granger for another great player? Monta and greatness are not synonymous, and as for the comment about David Lee not being a winner, I think that would have more to do with the fact that Danilo Gallinari is their best player. Incidentally, David Lee does things that help you win basketball games. Rebounding and selective shooting will go far in producing wins. To say he is not a winner is unfair. For example, put Lee on the Celtics instead of Rasheed, or put him on the Lakers instead of Odom. Would he then cease to be a loser?

by lilboots on Jul 5, 2010 9:16 PM PDT reply actions

Bird thinks Granger is LBJ. He would want Ellis, Randolph, and Curry for him.
